Homey Energy Dongle ⚡️ - Megathread

Tried that but after some days it failed again.

Hi All,

I have the same WiFi issues with my homey energy dongle. Initially it connected to WiFi. A shared 2.4ghz and 5ghz network without issues. Now last week it suddenly disconnected and I’m struggling since.

tried the same WiFi didn’t work

Tried a seperate WiFi only 2.4ghz didn’t work

Made a seperate WiFi on fritzbox 2.4 and 5 combined didn’t work

Separated the WiFi to a seperate 2.4 ghz did work for 2 days and now also does not work.

So it feels like an issue with the dongle itself?

Any thought?

tries powering the dongle with a usb-c power adapter ?

Did that from the start even tried multiple adapters. No luck

Does the Homey Energy dongle also read out the water meter? If so, how frequent are the readouts?

Context, I currently have an analog meter which I read out constantly to detect an open water valve. Tomorrow I get a digital water meter and I would like to get the same functionality.

Just received my Homey Energy Dongle.

I have Tibber Pulse since before, it have been working okay but I wanted to try out the Homey dongle.

To start with, the power to the Tibber via the Homey Energy Dongle is not enough to power it. So the Tibber dies as soon as I disconnect any external power. Someone else with experience regarding this?

Also unfortunatly the Homey Dongle antenna is worse than the Tibber Pulse, so I cannot reach my WiFi good enough and looses the connectivity when closing the electrical cabinet….

A friend of mine has a Homey 2026 Pro with a Homey Energy Dongle installed. It worked fine for several weeks. However, a few days ago the connection with the Homey Energy Dongle was lost. We tried several restarts and reconnecting, but without success.

We then reset the dongle. After that, it shows up properly in the app again and connects to Wi-Fi, but it is unable to read any meter data. We have repeated this process multiple times, but with no result. We also connected the additional USB-C power supply, but that did not help either.

The meter worked for weeks, so we assume compatibility is not the issue. It’s a Seamcomm T211, which is also listed as supported by Homey.

Does anyone recognize this issue or have any suggestions?

Utility meters can quit sending data;
In order to “reset” it, you’d unplug the P1 cable from the utility meter, and leave it unplugged for 10 minutes or so before plugging it back in.

I will try that later this week! Will share the feedback overhere.

Update: try this but without results, also I received a message from Homey support to update the firmware with the usb homey tool, also without results.

For me the issue was that the mdns was not working well, after I fix this the energy dongle is working well again!

I have a little problem with my energy information between Homeward and Homey. My question is in Dutch on this topic:

https://community.homey.app/t/homey-pro-en-homewizard-geven-andere-bedragen-iemand-die-weet-wat-ik-hier-moet-invullen/

I have been using the homey energy dongle for a year now. How is the data stored or not and can I still download it?

I want to make a calculation if a dynamic energy contract is financially better or not. For that I would like the energy consumption and production of every 15min or otherwise every hour. But if i look in my history in homey insights I can only see 1 measure moment a day if i select ‘past year’.

PS. I am sorry if this question is already asked but I couldnt find the answer with search.

No, there’s nothing stored on the dongle, maybe a few minutes of cached RAM data (but I doubt it).

Insights Data unfortunately is averaged over time. The further back in time, the more it’s averaged out, removing interesting spikes and dips.
AFAIK only the “last hour” data contains 5s datapoints.
To save the most precise “last hour” data, you’d automatically export the dongle’s data to external storage, with the Archive Insights app for instance:

To be clear, that will be for “as of now” data.
It’s impossible to download non-averaged data from older Insights data.

That’s what i was afraid of.

I recently installed archive insights and turned on auto exports to a ftp server. However if I understand the app archive insights I still have to install an extra P1 app like power by the hour to be able to export the insights of the homey p1 dongle?

I normally just check the energy tabb, but that data is not exported by export insights if i understand it well (i also dont see it in the export).
So now i am reading into the app power by the hour, how to install and use that app..
This is unfortunately a bit dissapointing from the homey p1 dongle, that to be able to save and use historic data so many extra steps and apps seem necessary. But also please tell me if I do not understand it right and overcomplicate it.

This uses the data provided by your devices/apps; in theory Archive Insights should be able to export their data provided by their related apps.

Ah, the dongle is app-less. I’d like to suggest to discuss with the app dev of both apps, Robin (you’d use the Archive Insights topic I linked to);

Maybe it’s possible to add the energy dongle as “app” or device to the export selections, as they write to insights too.

Although I can highly recommend to use the Power-by-the-Hour app.

This is mainly needed because Athom thinks we don’t need all that, and, besides this (https://support.homey.app/hc/en-us/articles/4409687231890-Export-Insights-data) Insights is regarded as perfect as non-interactive historic database since 2015.
But I guessume that’s not gonna change any time soon, because Emile (co-founder) recently published an insights-2-grafana export tool as well:

Thanks for your extensive response, I’m gonna read into it!

hi,

I have been browsing through the Homey Community Forum but could not find a clear answer on a simple (?) question:

is it possible to use Homey Energy Dongle as a P1 meter for Marstek Battery Venus E V3.0?

kind regards,
