If I want to connect my first tado-x heating thermostat to Homey, it suggests 2 options:
#1. connect via Homey pro
#2. connect via iOS
I have a tado-x bridge in use and have only connected one thermostat to it so far.
Perhaps someone here can briefly explain to me in advance what the advantages/disadvantages of operating the valves via the tado x-Bridge are compared to using Matter. Do I then not need a bridge but connect the valves via my Homekit? Can I then still use the tado app without any restrictions or will everything only work via Homekit?
And back to the initial question, integration in Homey:
Which option (#1 or #2) fits best to which setup and what are the advantages/disadvantages.
I would be super grateful if someone could explain this to me
I invested a few hours at the weekend and got it right.
The tado-x heating thermostats are now integrated via Apple Homekit/Matter and are available in Apple Home, the tado app and in Homey and can be used with the full range of functions. The entire setup is implemented without the tado-x bridge.
I purchased the Tado X thermostate (which should be communicating with Matter over Thread) with the idea to directly connect it to the Homey Pro 2023.
However, when trying to connect it it constantly get an unknown Matter error 0x00ac. have you tried this as well? iâve tried several things such as:
connecting homey to a 2.4 GHZ wifi-channel
restarting homey
restarting the wifi
resetting the Tado X to factory settings
Iâve reached out to Tado and they say that connecting the device to the Homey Pro is not supported (Which is weird when its using the Matter protocol).
Can you describe what you did to achieve this? Mine are also connected to the Tado X Bridge, but at the moment Iâm hesitating to put them in learningmode to connect them to Homey. And did you use option #1 or #2?
For adding devices to Homey (And most likely any other border router) after adding the devices to the Tado bridge, you have to make a new Matter code.
In the tado app, go to âinstellingenâ (settings), then to âKamers & Apparatenâ (Rooms & Devices). There, choose âApparaat koppelenâ (connect device). Choose âcodeâ, and cut and paste that code to the Homey app.
Donât use the original matter-code on the device, or the card which it came with.
You can use either âconnect with Homeyâ or âconnect using IOS or Androidâ.
Also connected Thermostat X and 2 radiator Valves to Homey Pro today without any issues, without bridge. Controlling them, changing temperature, all is fine.
But now I have a silly question. Since I am not using the Tado app at all, and only the Homey Pro, do the valves still work the âsmartâ way? In other words, when I set the desired temperature in Homey (through a flow), do they close when this temperature is reached? Or do I need te Tado logic for that?
Eventually i was able to succesfully connect the Tado X thermostat to the Tado X bridge in a seperate wifi network (did this to isolate it from my own wifi network and check if it was my network that was causing the problem).
After that i did a factory reset of the thermostat (which i ofcourse also tried before) and tried to connect it to the homey again on my own network. This was finally succesfull!
It workedâŚfor a while. But the knobs (X type) keep giving a time out in Homey Pro constantly, while the Thermostat X is responding fine. Also in Tado app itself all works fine, including knobs.
Setup:
Thermostat X
2 knobs X
Connected to Homey Pro using Thread/Matter, and to Tado account. Tado app states âConnectedâ and is able to control, Homey isnât. The Bridge X is used to strengthen the Thread network, also stating âConnectedâ (via WiFi).
Seems like Homey Tado app isnât able to control. Anu thoughts?
In the settings of the devices the Homey app from Tado is stated, which assumes it is usedâŚ
Anyway, if their is a way to connect the Tado via the Tado API so Homey does not connect to the devices directly that would solve the issue, since the Tado iOS app is able to control.
Thanks, but for 2 days now the knobs work fining using the Tado iOS app (or webinterface) but the status does not reflect in the Homey app and controling using Homey isnât possible.
Can someone explain how I connect the devices using the Tado app on Homey instead of directly? I was planning to reset everything this afternoon, so remove the Tado from Homey and start over. By leaving the Tado iOS app in tact I was hoping I could just authorize Tado in Homey to get my devices.
I only have an old 2019 Homey, but a friend of mine has a 2023, so this morning we tested the Tado X thermostat via Homey. The installation was easy. I did a reset of the knob as it was connected to my own system before. After that a Matter device search in Homey via his iPhone showed the knob and within 30 seconds all worked. All without the Tado bridge. Very nice!
Iâve got a TadoX thermostat and installed it using the Tado app. I try to connect it without bridge to my Homey 2023 Pro (firmware 12.3.1) without success. I can enable matter pairing in the Tado app and add it to Apple Home without issues. But adding it to Homey failed every time in the last step: âsearching for deviceâ.
I tried this:
Tado App â Apple Home â Pairing mode in Apple Home â Homey Tado app with matter using iOS pairing â FAILED
Tado App â Pairing mode in Tado App â Homey Tado app with matter using Homey native matter mode â FAILED
I restarted Homey, I removed the thermostat from Apple Home - doesnât matter. It wonât succeed.
Do you have any hint?
I removed the thermostat and placed it 20cm beside Homey. Nothing - wonât work.
But I can control the thermostat from Home and Tado App.
Itâs the heating valve. Iâm using the Tado app from Athom, because the heating valve should be connect by using matter. I donât have the BridgeX from Tado.
