Cannot add any matter devices, and thread settings give an error

As the title says, no matter what I do i cannot get a matter device to pair. The device i am trying to pair is a Tapo S515 light switch, and it provides the code to pair it.

I am using the Homey SHS and a Homey bridge, but when i go to add the light switch, it simply says “put the device in pairing mode” and then it fails.

Also, when i open the Thread settings, i get the following screen.

Any ideas?

PS, the fact that I am a paying customer (of the Bridge so far, but i am evaluating purchasing the lifetime license for the SHS, and the support page simply says “As much as we’d love to help, we focus on general support and can’t assist with custom use-cases. For tailored advice, visit the Homey Community forum, where experienced users might be able to help.”

What kind of support model is that?

It’s not yet compatible with the Tapo app (only the S505 is compatible). You should request support here:

Thank you. I see what you mean, but what I’m saying is I don’t even get the option to attempt to pair it via matter, not via the Tapo app.

If it’s Matter-over-Thread, you’d have to have an up-and-running Thread Border Router in the house.
For example, certain apple and google devices act as TBR, just use your fav search engine to find out.

A Homey Bridge lacks a Thread radio, so this isn’t of any use (plus, with Matter-over-wifi, you don’t need anything additional, including the Bridge).

The usual one (for Homey).

Matter or Matter over Thread devices work even without an app, provided that the existing Matter version supports this device. This means that no Homey app is necessary.

Got it. So if I do the math, since I don’t currently have a TBR:

HomePod Mini: $110

Homey Bridge: $70

Homey SHS lifetime: $150

Total: $330

Vs

Homey Pro Mini + Bridge: $270

Or

Homey Pro (2026): $400

Sigh…guess I know which way to go. Thanks everyone!

I do like the ecosystem so far but it does make me wary of investing further into it.

Regarding Matter, a bridge isn’t going to help;
Plus, the Pro mini supports Matter/zigbee on it’s own
https://support.homey.app/hc/en-us/articles/360015447093-Comparing-the-existing-Homey-Pro-models

Curious what your choice would be.
Matter is nowhere near the marketed image (do marketeers ever consult engineers?).

I’m 100% content with zigbee (used with zigbee2mqtt that is).

Yeah this whole rabbit hole is because Homey doesn’t currently support the Tapo S515 switch, but the switch is able to use Matter.

And, I really don’t want to rip it back out of the wall… haha

And also, I bought like 5 of the same switch and planned on installing them throughout the house, but thankfully I haven’t bought the SHS license yet, though I did buy the Bridge.

I THINK my plan is to buy the Pro 2026 and return the Bridge.

Of course, then I’ll find out that SOMETHING is out of range and I’ll need to re-buy it haha.

Now, if only there was a way to restore a backup of my SHS to a Pro…

For zigbee/zwave, it acts as an ordinary zigbee router, like zigbee/zwave lamps and switches do (almost all mains powered zigbee/zwave devices do). And zigbee lamps can go for less than €10,-

It does not do what some assume it would do: bridge zigbee/zwave signals over the local network.
This functionality is reserved for 433MHz/Ble/IR.

You can export and import your flows at least, albeit one by one…
https://community.homey.app/t/web-app-alt-context-menu-export-import-flows/143013

When you use Better Logic variables, you can export and import them in bulk per JSON file.

Just don’t use Matter and instead request support here:

I get this same warning. I have a working TBR and ive submitted a ticket to support with no reply at all. Many ive seen on here have got this issue.
