As the title says, no matter what I do i cannot get a matter device to pair. The device i am trying to pair is a Tapo S515 light switch, and it provides the code to pair it.
I am using the Homey SHS and a Homey bridge, but when i go to add the light switch, it simply says “put the device in pairing mode” and then it fails.
Also, when i open the Thread settings, i get the following screen.
Any ideas?
PS, the fact that I am a paying customer (of the Bridge so far, but i am evaluating purchasing the lifetime license for the SHS, and the support page simply says “As much as we’d love to help, we focus on general support and can’t assist with custom use-cases. For tailored advice, visit the Homey Community forum, where experienced users might be able to help.”
If it’s Matter-over-Thread, you’d have to have an up-and-running Thread Border Router in the house.
For example, certain apple and google devices act as TBR, just use your fav search engine to find out.
A Homey Bridge lacks a Thread radio, so this isn’t of any use (plus, with Matter-over-wifi, you don’t need anything additional, including the Bridge).
Matter or Matter over Thread devices work even without an app, provided that the existing Matter version supports this device. This means that no Homey app is necessary.
And also, I bought like 5 of the same switch and planned on installing them throughout the house, but thankfully I haven’t bought the SHS license yet, though I did buy the Bridge.
I THINK my plan is to buy the Pro 2026 and return the Bridge.
Of course, then I’ll find out that SOMETHING is out of range and I’ll need to re-buy it haha.
Now, if only there was a way to restore a backup of my SHS to a Pro…
For zigbee/zwave, it acts as an ordinary zigbee router, like zigbee/zwave lamps and switches do (almost all mains powered zigbee/zwave devices do). And zigbee lamps can go for less than €10,-
It does not do what some assume it would do: bridge zigbee/zwave signals over the local network.
This functionality is reserved for 433MHz/Ble/IR.
