I installed SHS Homey and well it works super good very happy with it.
Now I paid some Matter devices to IKEA to give it a try (I am a mostly zigbee user).
I can’t connect them to Homey because well I don’t have a homey pro.
The question I have now is how should I deal with it? Can I pay a Homey Pro and use it as a “relay” just for matter?
Is there a cheaper variant I could use? (I use zigbee2mqtt and it is super well integrated with homey, is there something similar for matter eventually?)
Any help is appreciated thank you! (I have no matter “host”)
I would recommend staying with ZigBee since it’s far more stable. Or use a Matter/Thread bridge that is supported by Homey via a Homey app.
If you have a Google Nest (newer version) speaker or Google TV streamer, you can also add them to Google Home and then integrate them in Homey using Google automations and the Virtual Devices app .
There are also some HomeKit apps for Homey, maybe you can integrate via those?
I don’t know of any Matter/Thread bridges that are supported. Aqara has their cheap (€20) M100 bridge with Open API (Cloud), but that isn’t supported in Homey yet.
Get a HomePod Mini for your Thread border router. Connect your Matter over Thread devices to Apple Home. Open the setting page for the device you just added in Apple Home where you will find an option to put it into Pairing Mode. Then go back to Homey and add a Matter device using the code generated when you put the device into pairing mode.
Homey SHS + Matter? Not recommended.
And I don’t see Matter(Thread/Wifi) as ‘universal’ protocol, not yet. It still has a long way to go.
Z2M works flawless.
Almost 2y ago I bought one Matter device out of curiosity, a NUKI lock.
When connected, it works very well.
Matter + Homey SHS ? Good luck.
Some say it’s a network issue, but why does it work with H.A. on the same network?
I even saw the word connected during the pairing (taking ages), but right away it fails ( using the stuff I own ).
A bunch of Matter over Thread tests:

I just learned about the HA Matter Bridge Add-on last night. I know I’m late to that party, but my exploration of Matter has been intentionally slow. I was expecting issues and found them quite quickly. I’m not testing Thread enabled devices, just Matter over IP.
The HA Matter Bridge is working with Apple TV, but when the HA Matter Bridge is shared with Homey SHS, those devices become unresponsive after a short time. Rebooting SHS brings them back online, but only for a few minutes.
Neither of these work consistently. If I remove a device from the HA Matter Bridge and restart the bridge (this is required each time a device is added or removed), then it dutifully disappears from Apple Home. Unfortunately, when I add it back, it reappears in Apple home but cannot be renamed or moved to another room as it could the first time around.
Aside from not being usable with HA Matter Bridge, Homey SHS also will not re-add Matter devices after they are removed, and the Matter devices that have not been removed will be offline after the HA Matter Bridge is restarted, so it is necessary to restart Homey SHS each time the HA Matter Bridge is restarted. But then of course they go offline by themselves in a few minutes.
Configuration tested:
HA Matter Bridge > Apple TV (Apple Home) > Homey SHS
HA Matter Bridge > Apple TV (Apple Home) and
Matter is still a mess of inconsistencies. I choose to step away from Matter again until it’s further along. The last thing I want in my smart home is to introduce instability.
It seems like I am having a better experience with Matter than some. Maybe it’s because I’m not using a Homey setup with them . They’re connected to Apple Home and then paired with HA, and they’ve been as stable as any Zigbee device I own. The Matter (2 Thread) devices I’m currently using are Linkind bulbs, Govee LED strips, an Aqara FP300, 2 Gledopto LED controllers, and a Lafaer presence sensor. My Hue lights are also connected to Apple Home via Matter, but with HA I use the Hue integration. So, in my experience, Matter is working as expected.
It likely also depends on the network. In my network, all devices are on an isolated network and for specific devices that don’t need specific network features (like reaching other clients on the same network) is also disabled. So that might be the issue with the Matter setup. But I think ZigBee is still the most stable standard.
In regard to Apple Home, I don’t feel this is network related. The problems with Apple Home are likely due to bugs in their software. I say this because it works, but then acts in strange ways that have nothing to do with communication to other devices.
I also tried the Matter Bridge app on Homey that Emile wrote and it in fact works very well, but I don’t have devices to move from Homey to other systems. It is the opposite direction that is important to me.
I don’t use Apple devices, so I don’t know how it works there. But Matter requires quite a lot of network features to be enabled, and in my network I have many of those disabled for IoT devices (the cloud-only devices like Tuya are client isolated as well for extra security on top of the regular IoT network security). So I think the network settings of the devices can also be related to the issues.
