Continuing Matter ove Thread Issues

As much as I enjoy Homey, I am seriously thinking about switching to Home Assistant for my automations. All of my matter over thread devices are constantly going offline. They will still function in Apple Home. The only way I can get them working is to reset them (sometimes cutting the power to the whole house works)

Does anyone have any suggestions. I only have one thread network in my house. I have tried pairing them with Apple Home and sharing them to Homey and vice versa, no matter what, I still get device is not responding. I At one point I assumed it was on Aqsra devices, but I have installed a Level lock and it is continuing to work in Apple Home and is unavailable in Homey.

I really don’t want to have to recreate all of my automations, so any help would be appreciated.

Not that I have a lot of matter devices (just 1 actually), but it’s Aqara door lock and its being very stable…

Could it be some interference from neighbors or something like that?

No I don’t believe so. I just cut the power to my whole house off and everything is back up, lets see how long that lasts

I noticed when my hub updates and reboots, some of the tread devices or WiFi over matter devices loose connections. Last update, it didn’t happen. If I reboot the hub they all come back up. I also noticed if the thread devices have an app, for example new IKEA devices, or innovelli switch. if I go into apps and restart the app, they come back online instead of rebooting the hub.

I also have one device the Ikea BILRESA that goes offline everyday and I restart the app and that resolves the issue. Thinking of creating a flow to automatically restart IKEA app each morning.

Hello,

check this topic - Matter devices are unavailable - #27 by Welshsmarthome

I have the same problems with my thread-matter network, devices lost sporadic the IPV6 address and don’t get it back…so the devices are offline and not ping able…solution is device power off / on - restart of local network and if this all not solve the problems, reset the devices and bring them back into homey…very very disappointed…Athom bring in the new version v13.2.0 a matter fix, hopefully it will solve the problem soon!?

Same issue here with the Ikea buttons. Very, very dissapointed a 400 bucks smart home hub does not properlywork with this! Athom, fix this !!!

Instead of trolling here, you’d be better off contacting the source of the problem. IKEA is currently having quite a few issues with its firmware.

kid, Homey is having these issues while for instance Home Assistant hasn’t. So the issue isn’t IKEA, it’s Homey.

And, look up what trolling actually is. I’m not the one here doing that :person_facepalming:

I tried to put in a support request for my non-ikea issues but the support site said to post here. I am going to try moving from a Raspberry Pi to an installation on an Ubuntu server tonight to see if that helps.

Support told me the same thing. Dont contact them, they cant help, ask on the forum.
They closed my ticket.
I complained and they said ask the forum.

Thats it.

Ive totally given up. I deleted all thread devices and bridge them via home assistant. Since then ive had no stability issues or lag on my zigbee devices, no warnings, no drop offs. I suspect that the single chipset in the homey bridge just gets maxed out. Thread causes issues and then this has an impact on Zigbee.

All devices work well bridged from Home Assistant.

The problem is, i didnt pay into Homey to have Home Assistant.
I got homey because ive never been a Home Assistant fan. SHS has made me change my mind, its almost failed for Homey in that it makes people use other things.
They should be the one stop shop, especially at the cost of it

They need to fix it. Its a farce that Thread and Matter is so bloody terrible still

I agree with that…same by me, all EVE`s and Meross Thread Devices are working in Apple Home when they stop working on Homey! When you read the changelog of HomeyPro26 you see many hints regarding matter fixes…latest in v13.5.1 (Fixed an issue that could cause Matter to stop working periodically.)seems they are know about the problems and working already to fix the root cause…hopefully it isnt a hardware topic :frowning:

I can not connect Bilresa dual button to Aqara either.

But my Bilressa dual button, original firmware 1.8.5 is very stable since day one in Homey (but a bit laggy)

Also, Ikea is hardly providing ota firmware updates via third party ecosystems.

I have another similar button paired directly with Google Home and another one with iphone, none of them got any firmware updates.

But the Aqara ecosystem was not designed as a one-size-fits-all ecosystem for all home automation. Homey was… It is still weird that Home Assistant is having no issues at all with this, as far as I can tell. So while Ikea may maybe improve on certain things as well, the issue really is Homey not fixing this, where the big question indeed is if this is a software issue which they will hopefully fix, or a hardware issue, in which case we all have a very expensive piece of hardware not fully doing what it was designed for.

But if you can still return the IKEA buttons, I would recommend you to return them and get (way more stable) WiFi, Zigbee or Z-Wave smart remotes instead. Those are way more stable than Matter or Thread.

I will. I did however really love the design of these Ikea buttons!! Now ordered an Aqara button instead. Should work better, but the design of them is awful while they are also more expensive :frowning:

It’s unfortunate that IKEA stopped selling their Zigbee buttons, those were very good and cheap.

Tuya also has many WiFi and Zigbee smart buttons with many different designs, you might be able to find some for cheap on Aliexpress

I solved my ikea matter unstability issue by getting more Matter device between Homey and a Matter lamp I was using. Now I have 0 issues what so ever.

First setup was Homey and the floor above directly directly above it a new Ikea Kajplats.
This worked only 1 day and then it lost connection.

I fixed it by getting 2 new ikea light bubls also Kajsplats which I did setup in the same room as my Homey and once they joined the Thread network I moved them to the same floor and everything is stable every since.

I am running SHS before I migrated from a Raspberry Pi to my home server, I cut the power to the whole house. When everything came back up, I cut the power to my Raspberry Pi and rebooted Homey, and everything has been running for a whole day!!! All my matter devices, including Aqara, Ikea, and Lafaer are running. Not sure what happened but this is the most uptime I have ever had

Not trying to start anything (I switched to HA from Homey) but saying HA is having no issues at all with this just isn’t true ?? Take a look at their community site ? Plenty of people having Thread issues with many involving Ikea devices.
