Recently I have purchased a matter over thread device (light switch) and I was struggling to connect it to Homey, after 2 days of trying I decided to submit support request and got this reply:
Thank you for contacting our support!
What device exactly are you trying to connect (brand/model)?
Could you read this article to see if you are following the basic steps of connecting a Matter-over-Thread device:
https://support.homey.app/hc/en-us/articles/12010766903580-Thread-for-Homey-Pro-Early-2023-and-Homey-Pro-mini
If the device connects as a Matter device look here: https://support.homey.app/hc/en-us/articles/9075551662108-Matter-for-Homey-Pro-Early-2023-and-Homey-Pro-mini
Best regards,
Then I had doubts that the light switch it self might have a problem, so I brought up Alexa echo and the pairing process didn’t take a minute!
Since I am connecting my HP with ethernet I thought I should connect it to Wifi 2.4 to clear all doubts I have, tried the pairing process again with homey with no luck at all, I am stuck with these messages!
It seems somehow you didn’t pick a Thread border router. AFAIK Homey + your phone need to be in Bluetooth range of the Matter device as well.
But when you use the web app during the adding procedure, Homey gets selected as TBR automatically

This message appears when pairing the device via ios with homey, the apple tv i own at home doesn’t support thread.

Well, i am using the iphone app, does it make any difference if I use the web app?
My information comes from the knowledge base articles you linked to.
When you use the web app, Homey automatically selects it’s own TBR, like I tried to explain:
I have pretty much given up on using Matter devices. Connecting them can be difficult, requiring multiple attempts. Then once done they just seem to disconnect and there seems to be no tools available to work out why. Sometimes they reconnect by themselves, sometimes they reconnect after restarting Homey23, other times they need to be re-paired. The devices I was testing were 3 nano leaf globes. I also have 2 matter bling controllers.
I don’t know if this is a HP23 issue, and I don’t know if Athom recognise there is an issue and are working on it. I guess I’ll just wait a while and see if this improves.
Do you have (many) zigbee devices connected to Homey as well, Peter?
See my comment at Matter over Thread devices disconnecting - #23 by Peter_Kawa
Yes, I have 21. Maybe I should get a homey bridge, connect all Zigbee devices to that, that would leave the pro for matter devices.
That’s not what the Bridge does when used as a satellite in a Homey Pro network. It will act as just a regular (albeit expensive) Zigbee router, but Homey Pro will remain the Zigbee controller.

Well, that idea’s no good then. Thanks Robert.
I’m finding Zigbee is really behaving really well these days and with good cheap devices available (e.g. IKEA) I have migrated a lot of devices away from ZWave.
