Aqara FP300 with Matter!

Mine arrived today. Updated the firmware to get Zigbee mode. Aqara replied on Instagram to keep an eye out for the socials for Homey support.

Did you update via the Aqara hub or ?

No the Aqara app. Just make sure you logged in. then it shows as a bluetooth device. And follow the steps.

I can’t see that

But then you can update ?

It’s already paired via matter to homey ?

I am going to ask a stupid question, in my homey it shows via Thread, but I told it Matter. Is this correct?

Disconnect from Homey. Use the official aqara app. The devive is matter by default. Zigbee is only after the update. View the setup video from aqara

Matter is the language spoken between the devices. Thread is an underlying technical communication protocol. Matter can be ‘spoken’ over different communication protocols, most commonly Thread or WiFi.

In this case the sensors uses Matter over Thread.

The alternative is to switch the device to Zigbee mode. That mode requires support of the sensor by the Aqara app for Homey, which is not yet the case.

But then you need an aqara hub

No after you’ve updated the device to use ZIgbee, just cancel out the last step when you need to select a aqara hub. And add it to homey. But for now its just a generic device that does nothing.

Yes. It is working fine with matter. You have the latest firmware.

Why would you use zigbee? If you buy the Aqara hub M100 (20 euros) you can connect to both hubs and adjust some settings en update firmware in the future. But not necessary, it is working fine..

@Jan_Albert Can I also first add the device via matter in apple HomeKit and then share the device to add the 300 in the Aqara hub m100?
Can I then adjust settings and update firmware?

Yes, I first added to Homey and then shared with aqara hub.

I used the new matter bridge app from Athom. No idea if the is the right way, but it worked.

And then you can also update the firmware and adjust settings?

Yes and yes

I don’t see how the Matter Bridge app can support firmware updates, as it’s used to expose any Homey device over Matter, not just devices that already use Matter. Same for device-specific settings.

AFAIK this can only work when using Matter multi-tenancy.

The matter bridge app does not support firmware updates.

That is why I connected to the aqara hub as a shared device. Then you can adjust settings and do firmware updates with the aqara home app.

That means you used Homey’s built-in Matter multi-tenancy, not the Matter Bridge app

In the settings on the aquara app. Is there any settings for the time it uses to undetect presence? I’ve been testing mine for the last 24 hours, and it detects presence almost immediately, but it takes a while to undetect when leaving the room.

@robertklep

I’ve paired Matter devices via Matter to my HomePod and then shared them with Homey.
If I add the FP300 to Apple and share it with the Aqara Hub M100, I should be able to update and change settings.

Will this also strengthen the Matter network if I also use the M100?
And What is the difference in homey to add matter devices via Homey or iOS ?

Assuming you mean the mesh network, that’s not something that is relevant to Matter, but to Thread, and AFAIK, only Thread devices in the same Thread network mesh with each other. So your HomePod will have its own Thread network, and Homey also will have its own network, and even though their devices can be shared (over Matter), they won’t strengthen each other’s networks.
