Aqara FP2, mmWave presence detection on WiFi

I bought 8 devices for my new house, got 220 everywhere.

What do you guys recommend? Do it via HA, via IFTT or …

use HA. it works much faster than IFTT.
I use mine with HA and it works ok.

When I get back from holiday I will tidy up the app and put it in my GitHub account.
One problem is Aqara disables the Webhook if it doesn’t get a response and Homey has a tendency to go offline. So, you will find it stops responding after a while and you will need to login to your developer account to enable it again.

Maybe we can avoid this with a simple flow that checks the status of the device every x minutes? I’m thinking if we “ping” the device to check the state/status, Aqara sees that the webhook is actively used and it will stay online?

The webhooks work the other way around: from Aqara to Homey.

And since Homey’s networking isn’t particularly stable, it can happen that Aqara cannot perform the webhook request to Homey and it gets disabled.

As @robertklep said. Aqara randomly sends a Webhook message to Homey and if Homey doesn’t provide the correct response for x number of times, it disables the Webhook.
That’s why I can’t use the Athom Webhook server as it has no way to respond with the correct message. If a message comes in that has no way to identify a Homey, Athom sends a NAK and Aqara sees that as a failure.

I thought that we can keep it alive from Homey to Aqara

I feel being pushed to the HA-community while I want to stay within Homey. But I guess i’ll need to do it since there’s no clear roadmap on when Homey solves the webhook thingy.

Its too bad. That’s technically how Homey loses customers.

I have the same issue. Basically for several sensors I use Homye just to create automations and I connect them to HA. (I don’t like how automations are created in HA  )

I have the fp2 installed through HA. It’s fairly easy to do. I also connected zigbee mmwave sensors this way. It’s quite amazing to never be waving for lights again!

Does anyone know when aqarA wil uodat the fp2 so that postition detection (standing, sitting, laying down) will be released?

My bedtime routine has quite a few false positives (pressure mat) and using the fps to detect laying down could sole this.

Also, sitting on the toilet could trigger a fan

What hardware did you buy or guide did you follow?

To be fair to Athom, it is Aqara that has a nonstandard Webhook requirement, so can’t really blame Athom for that.
The whole Aqara API is a mess and the worst I have seen, and I have seen a few.

That’s fair then.

But the reason for Athom to develop this feature is then more political. If many heavy users like us buy these devices, then many of us are pushed to other platforms. It’s a leak in their userbase.

Fo me the question is, why do FP2 work with HA?

Because of the HomeKit Device integration, for which there is no Homey alternative.

I think we should hope that the matter support for fp2 Will be released soon, and this works.

True, did they share any timeline on that?

I still all my 10 sensors in a box. It will be my winter project to get them running

Or maybe via the SmartThings app?

SAN FRANCISCO–(BUSINESS WIRE)–Aqara, a leading provider of smart home products, joined hands with Samsung Electronics during the Samsung Developer Conference 2023 (“SDC23”) and showcased a live demonstration of the Aqara Presence Sensor FP2 integrated with Samsung SmartThings technology at the event. During the SDC keynote, Aqara Senior Vice President, Cathy You, emphasized the synergies between Aqara’s suite of smart home devices and the vast expanse of Samsung SmartThings products. “Our partnership with Samsung is built upon the shared vision of a future where homes are not just automated but also adaptive to users’ unique needs,” said Cathy.

I have 2 Homey’s and 1 HA running (separate locations), but I do not understand that either. I have the FP1 sensors installed on HA and they works fine, even when I pull-out the ethernet cable! No HA has no wifi connection in my case.

I am just a beginner, but if the FP1 is using webhooks, there is an internet-connection needed, right? So, does the FP-sensors really depend on webhooks?

All automations in HA keep on working fine, controlled by the FP1 sensors, without internet-connection.

Don’t misunderstand me. I have great respect for all people who are trying to make this work and put in their time and effort, but could it be that there is another way then webhooks, to make these sensors work, like HA does?

Doesn’t the FP1 use Zigbee?

As I already mentioned, the FP2 is supported on Home Assistant through its HomeKit Device integration, for which there is no alternative on Homey. It’s not impossible to write an app for Homey that has similar functionality, it’s just that nobody has done so.
