[SOLVED] Servers / service / connection down? March 11 @ 04:11AM CET

Before firmware 2.0 (years ago) Homey was entirely local, but in the interest of “security” this was changed.

Running a website/server on Homey will take about 0 resources, so that’s not the problem.

In any case, Athom/Homey f.ed up big time with their “Local Control”… so what we can se is that the Homey that we are using are like Tuya Cloud, which means no “Cloud” no “Control”

Very very very dissapointed with Homey, with all the marketing and everything

Homey web site is now off. Looks like Homey is under cyber attack.
But now we know that our Homey box is dependent from something on the web to work. Which is bad…

Here are my flows working that control the lights by using a censor.
Input like from Google Home don’t working.

I have to say this is the first time in 3.5 years I can’t login due to a clear sky (no clouds ).

At least this proves no Homey can be managed without Athom’s cloud, with authentication servers in particular.

I hope Athom is going to come up with a local login possibility for my Homey’s.
I feel “VanMoof-ed” now :expressionless:

I recommend The additional use of a local dashboard: with homey 2023 and api key you can operate on devices or check some status, with a local connection to homey ip without internet. It work also in 2019/2016 but need a bearer token that expire.

it should Be develop a local app for manage homey locally (homey local web api can control at 80/90% the system)

Same here. Following this topic.

the local part works fine, including flows. the only thing what won’t work is the home screen in the app. All local stuff on z wave including flows (90 devices) work fine. Things what need interaction with internet in one way or another probably don’t work. but kept my whole network for that reason on Z-wave. just tested the interaction with Twinkly (wifi) (Christmas lights) and that is still working fine.

I’m happy with the “local” part.

I would appreciate a small message from Athom in this topic on current status. A small explanation.

I am convinced every Athom employee uses Homey and thus experience what we do. Maybe one of them even checks in on this forum now and then. Just to keep connection with the customer base… (Or too find solutions and hints  )

The app is back online

The bearer token method also seems to be affected, or homeydash works differently.
I run my flavor of homeydash.com locally, but the browser just crashes when opening the local dash URL.
It uses a bearer token which is valid for a long time, at least a year.

I know Homey is still online, while f.e. local webhooks and google mini’s still speak to me as usual (with the Ggl text to speech app)

Are you sure?
That sounds like an extreme long expiration time for a bearer token.

Not here

Any way, the moment they wake up and get to the office, they’ll curse their Monday.

Also would love to see a communication from their side, and to be more transparent in things, or even have an incident department implemented, it’s unacceptable to have issues like these.

That’s why I think security is overrated

If they would have a slimmed down version of the website/server running locally as a backup, they could maintain their claim of running everything locally

or having a local IP interface or something

Just wanna say: if they would have an uptime of 99.9% (which would be pretty good), that still would leave a little less than 9 hours a year downtime.

Just FYI.

Yes I know, but it’s really a long time since I’ve had to renew my token. Emile or DaneedeKruyff would probably be able to tell you more about the token valid-time.

When I bought this system just before christmas the main reason was that it was local - I thought fully local. Very disappointed.

I did getting home assistant set up a few weeks ago for a couple of things that wouldn’t work on homey and now I’m thinking it might be worth transferring the lot it this is the sort of thing that’s going to happen.

App works for me as long as I’m in the same local network as my Homey Pro 23. (This includes VPN access to my local network from a mobile connection.)
