Ring Doorbell and Camera support for Homey

Because in the Homey world, “official” doesn’t necessarily mean “endorsed by the brand” :man_shrugging:t3:

so you are saying Athom made an “official” Ring app , that is not supported by ring and is not working? ok

Yes, that’s exactly how it works. All Athom apps are marked as “official”, giving the impression that it’s supported or endorsed by the brand, when in fact it often isn’t.

I have this issue as well. In first case I thought the authentication is the issue, so I re-auth the app. But the issue remains. No flow is started when motion is detected.

Thereby; it should be useful to have a trigger when the doorbell button is pressed, as such is not available yet.

Did you actually try the triggers vailable for your device?

Yes, there is no available for “button pressed”

It is called “the general alarm” is activated.

the whole triggering of any alarm stopped working more than a month ago. Since many times movement has happen and people pressnd the bell, but nothing comes through. I already have reauthenticated the app, but no new events are triggered.

New installation: Ring intercom.
The Ring app on iOS phone works.
Unfortunately, no interaction with Homey Pro 2023: Same issue as described by RemcoVa.
Installed latest test version V2.11.2 … but unfortunately without any difference.
Removed test version to go back to the regular latest vesioin V2.11.1 but can’t authentify anymore :slightly_frowning_face:

Unfortunately Ring changed something on their side but it’s pretty hard to find out what’s going on because it hasn’t stopped working for everybody. Luckily for me it still works, but that also means I have no way of debugging what’s happening for users for whom it’s borked.

Instructions on how to reauthenticate can be found via the FAQ in the beginning of this topic.

Thank you Danee for your prompt reply!
I installed the V2.11.1 again and I was able to authentify with the procedure described in the FAQ.
Unfortunately, still same issue.
FYI:
Homey Pro 2023 with V12.1.1
RING app version on my iPhone (iOS 17.6.1): 5.77.0, build 5.77.0.19

If I can do anything to help you … please let me know

Hi @DaneedeKruyff,

does your post from yesterday regarding Changes on Ring side still relate to the issues of not receiving any notifications (doorbell, person detection, etc.)?

I’m quite new to homey and actually the flow with ring doorbell and stick-up cams trigger sonos speakers to play sound in case of somebody pushing the doorbell or person/motion detected is my first exercises…Unfortunately with no luck so far…

Tried to follow all steps from earlier FAQ (remove authorized devices in Ring, re-authenticate, restart Ring Community app on Homey, Repair Devices) but I don’t get the expected result when starting the Flow, only in case of running in test mode (which most likely ‘simulates’ the trigger that should usually come from the Ring API)…

As I’m new to homey I start to doubt a little whether I performed all actions correctly…

Hi Mark,

Welcome on the forum and in this topic! Yes, my post relates to the problem that it’s for some users no longer possible to receive motion or ring events.

You’re right about testing the flow, at that time you manually do the trigger instead of the Ring app.

Hi @DaneedeKruyff,

Thanks for the Swift response.
Let’s hope that Ring fixes the issues in their API.

I read earlier that contacting Ring and addressing the issue doesn’t help.
Is this still the case or could it be of any help to start contacting them?

Regards

Hi yall,

is anyone using the Indoor Cam and having problems with events not triggering using this app? I am but not sure if it is due to this or if it’s got to do with me not having a subscription active at ring…

Scroll back just a few posts.

Which one, the one linking to the test app?

Hello

I’m struggling to get a Ring doorbell to work with Homey
I have created a device (doorbell) in Homey , the 2 factor authentication seems successful.
Once device has been created in Homey I check in Ring official app and see no device connected
I go back to Homey and open the Ring device and repair it. After repair Infinally see the device in the official Ring app
But I do not see in Ring official app a connected Homey account
The bottom line is in Homey event based clos do not work and it does not bring the image ofnRingndoorbell into Homey (black screen)
Any idea?

Thanks

Hi Oliver,

Did you folow these instructions: Ring Doorbell and Camera support for Homey - #5 by DaneedeKruyff to make sure your login at Ring is succesful?
There will only be 2 devices seen in the Ring app, there will be no connected account.
The fact events don’t come through is a know bug unfortunately, please read some posts back to get informed.
Please check the developers pages to see if there’s an image for your device, we can take it form there if there’s an image visible to get your flows correct. Also, motion detection needs to be enabled on your device and remember, battery operated devices are not capable of producing a screenshot when motion is detected!

Hello Dane and thanks for your help. I had read the post above and believe I did follow the instructions (this is why i mentioned I used the repair function) but I will read again maybe I missed something
I had not seen that there was a difference between battery powered and plugged in device, but mine is plugged in However I do not use motion detection so I guess it should not be a problem
I do see 2 devices connected so I guess im ok on that side. No connected account, ok I thought I has read in the post above it was required, I guess I did not understand.
I had not npseem motion detection was a must have. Does that mean I will not got the image in Homey if I don’t have motion detection? If so this is bad luck as I don’t want to use it as it is triggered too often

Thanks
