I finally figured out how to add Grillplats. Here’s what worked for me:
Make sure both Homey Pro and the IKEA app on Homey are fully updated.
Go to a room where you already have other devices connected to the Thread network. In my case, I had a few Signify light bulbs there.
Add the device using the IKEA app, and choose the option to add it via Android. After that, the device should be added normally.
I was able to add three units this way without any problems. Once I had placed them around the house, adding other IKEA Thread devices also became much easier. I’ve now added Alpstuga and Kajplats without any issues as well.
My impression is that these devices may not be able to communicate directly with Homey Pro during the initial setup.

Worked fine with my android phone
Yesterday i added 8 Grillplats plugs to my Homey in under 30 min. No problems at all.
just choosed to add (+)
clicked IKEA Home smart app
Choosed “Grillplats”
Clicked connect
Choosed conect via android and followed the instructions that followed.
Scanning the QR inside the plugs outlet and so on
The only “problem” i encountered was that there was difficulties to rename the plug when setting it up, and halfway through my writing of the new name the app reverted back to default name and i had to start over again. I ended up renaming the last 4 plugs afterwards instead.
I did not sit close to my Homey Pro, did not put my phone upon the plug while connecting, nothing like that. Just casually in my armchair with an extension cord beside me ~50cm and changed plugs as i progressed with my work.
Things have improved since last time i tried.
That happened with my Zigbee sensors as well which I recently added, it appears to be a bug then.
Yeah it’s an issue across adding any device I find and it’s been present for the entire time I’ve had Homey (two years)
This weekend, I purchased 10 GRILLPLATS smart plugs. I installed the IKEA Home smart app, placed the plugs close to my Homey, and connected them using the iOS Homey app. The setup went quite smoothly until the sixth plug, when I encountered a bad request (0x0092) error during the connection to my Homey Pro mini. Attempts to reconnect or add a new plug failed with the same error, but restarting my Homey resolved the issue.
I also experienced the same problem when renaming the plugs.
Thanks, this worked for me
And the issues with IKEA’s new Thread devices are now becoming quite clear to me
All of the 8 Grillplats plugs I have installed show as Active End Devices when I look at them on the Thread Diagnostics App, so don’t go out and buy these in the hope they will strengthen your mesh, because they won’t.
How can ALL of them be designated as REED devices?
It’s too much of a coincidence to me
I’m going to return all of my Grillplats this weekend
I’ve always owned two Eve Energy plugs for locations where I don’t want to put white Aqara wall outlets, which have been great, but figured the IKEA plugs would be a good, cheaper alternative for a few locations where a MoT plug would be useful.
However, after the issues I encountered with Grillplats plugs staying as REED devices, I thought it would be a good experiment to buy one more Eve Energy and put it in the same location as one of the Grillplats.
Guess what, within three days the new Eve Energy plug has been promoted to a Router and is connected to 15 other devices, really strengthening my mesh downstairs.
Don’t bother with these IKEA plugs guys, they just can’t do what we hoped they would.
How do you see that it turned into a router?
Matter Dashboard using Homey and the new Thread Diagnostics app
Confirmed, this is a months and months old bug. It also writes the entered text from right to left.
It’s not app or protocol related.
Because I didn’t read any posts about it yet, I thought it must be my phone or Android version or such.
I’ve concluded renaming during setup is a time waster. I always rename it only after the device is added.
Yesterday i bought three Grillplats smart plugs. I had some trouble connecting them but then i saw the tip of connecting them through IOS and that worked like a charm.
I have them connected now and they seem to be stable at the moment. All three the plugs are routers in my network.
Two weeks ago i also installed a few Kajplats devices from Ikea but those where very unstable so i returned them. I also bought a older type of Ikea smart plug but that device gave a very bad energy reading.
I am going to connect a few battery operated Matter devices in the next few days to see how they function als the backbone of the network.
I currently have 3 Kajplats bulbs, 2 Grillplats, 1 Tofsmygga and 2 Alpstuga devices. They all function as a Router in the Matter network, one of the Kajplats bulbs is even the leader.
I had a Kajplats which became a leader and then I had huge instability across my entire thread mesh after a few days. Automations failing and other devices dropping off intermittently.
Praying you don’t have the same, but I would be aware of it.
I have no luck adding my first Grillplats and also in the same packed a Bilring was included.
I have a Kajplats and a Myggspray in my HP2023 Matter-Over-Thread that works.
I have a Deco M9 mesh network but use a Telia router to assign DHCP etc. (only use Decos for wifi).
Have tried to reboot all Decos, Hp2023 and phone as other mention above. Tried to include thru phone (iPhone) and directly thru Matter and thru IKEA app. Also tried the Homey and iOS way that is possible to choose before scanning of QR code.
Feels like I have done everything I can try, some last suggestion or are more people having same issues thru Mesh Network etc?
Could be a lot of interference or IPv6 issues using a wifi mesh on top of the ISP router
I use 3x Deco x60 and my provider’s router.
I have now 5x kajplats, 2x grillplatz, 9x myggbett, 6x myggspray and 4 Neo door sensoren. (Thread)
For now it looks stable with the last beta version of Homey. (They solved a problem where a sensor appeared to be offline but was functioning fine.)
Pairing a sensor or lamp without first resetting the sensor seems almost impossible.
I had to reset the grillplatz 2 times before connecting via Android. If I abort a install I reset Homey else I can’t connect the device.
Hopefully, this will be fixed soon as well.
