I also tried connecting via the Homey Matter setup on iOS, but no success there either—even when holding my iPhone close to the plug. Is it possible that you need an Apple device with a Thread router for this? I only have an older Apple TV that doesn’t support that, so I’m relying solely on my Homey as the Thread router (in the same network obviously).
Homey provides the threads router. Did you check if the NFC function is switched on? This made the difference for me ….
Ever since updating my homey to version 13.1.0, all my power-monitoring problems regarding the Grillplats seem to have gone overnight. As this version seems to mentions improved support for Matter-based power measuring devices:
All plugs are now showing the same values as my older Inspelning plugs. Connecting the plugs to the Homey is still a little bit of a hassle, but since they are now reporting the correct values i’m willing to let this last one slide. The best way for me was to connect them via android and to keep the phone as close a possible to the plugs themselves.
I know what I did wrong—the iOS setup failed because my phone was connected to the wrong Wi-Fi network (I have a separate IoT Wi-Fi/VLAN). Once I switched my phone to the correct network, it worked flawlessly. However, the Homey method still doesn’t.
I installed the grillplats plugs today. At first like more of you they did not make any connection. Not via homey pro and not via IOS.
I updated the homey pro to 13.1.1 with a reboot Rebooted my iPhone 17 as well. Then I put in the plug, put it off with the switch on the plug. Pressed the button on the switch hold is till red flash was over. White led was flashing.
Then via homey add device, choosing Matter and connection via IOS, scanned the QR and put my phone on the plug and homey on the ground under the plug (10 cm). That worked ! It started to connect first gave it a name and later it connects via WiFi to homey and you can assign it to a room.
Now hoping it is stable. When I took out the plug and put it in another socket, I had to repair the connection. So don’t throw away the QR code ! You may need it later.
Oh yes, only 2 out of 3 work now. The 3rd one I cannot get it connected.
Has the new IKEA Home Smart app updated for you?
IKEA only just added the matter driver for this product
I bought a few today and they’ve all paired fine
Looking forward to ditching all the Onvis S4 plugs I have, which don’t have energy monitoring.
I simply can’t integrate the grillplats into Homey; they aren’t recognized. Firmware version 1.4.6. It can be connected to an iOS phone.
I always use the Connect via Android option these days with Thread devices.
The pairing function with Grillplats is quite long, you need to wait for the orange light to blink about six times.
Even with NFC on and the latest Homey IKEA Home Smart app v2.10.0 released hours ago, I still couldn’t pair it with Homey Pro (2026) via Android.
What I find frustrating is that there seems to be no public announcement from either Homey or Ikea about what they are doing with regards to this issue. I chatted with IKEA AI bot, it indicates that IKEA is aware of the issue with Homey Pro. Reply from Homey Pro also admitted the issue. Yet there is no statement as to what they are doing other than releasing updates. Communication is imperative to customer satisfaction. A few words from these companies would be nice.
At this point, I will resort to pairing the plug to Dirigera and share it with Homey Pro via multi-admin, an approach that I don’t prefer. Come to think about this, this use case could be another reason multi-admin is devised in addition to preserving those functionalities unique to the manufacturer’s own hub but not yet supported by Matter standard.
I’m having zero issues pairing them (eight so far)
A couple of them took 2-3 tries, but they’re all working fine.
I would suggest looking at how your home network is configured and then give it another go
You could also pair with Dirigera first to check if there’s a new firmware update, do that, delete it then try with Homey Pro.
A Thread mesh will take time to settle, so it could just be that
It is very difficult to pair Ikea GrillPlats indeed. Yet I managed to complete it after different combinations.
I’ll try to describe the exact procedure I followed to make it work:
- Plug the connector in the wall panel
- Start ‘Add Device’ in homey
- Select Matter as the source of the device
- Select Android connectivity method
- Read the QR code with the pop-up QR reader from Matter
- Check if NFC is on in Android (make fresh Wifi, BlueTooth and NFC connections in Android by switching off and on once)
- Put the mobile physically on the flat side of the GrillPlats connector
- Push the side button on Grillplats for more that 12 seconds, until the LED flashes red, then white
Pairing now starts, takes some 30 seconds, after which the device can be named and placing in a room can be done to finish to device for usage in Homey.
Hope this works, and helps others.
Thanks, Lee.
I’ll definitely have a look.
I wish this was the solution of pairing the Grillplats to my Homey, but also this method doesn’t work.
I really think of bringing it back to IKEA. Also pairing to Homekit or through Google Home didn’t work for me. I did that to test the connection.
Maybe my unit is faulty? ![]()
There’s a chance my units shipped with a newer firmware?
Worth getting the Dirigera hub, updating the firmware then trying again before returning
Yeah, possibly yours does have newer firmware, but I’m not gonna buy a Dirigera Hub for the sake of updating a plug.
I’d rather go back to IKEA to exchange the plug for a new one. If that one doesn’t connect either than I’ll ask my money back
Mine are on firmware 1.4.6 at the moment, which isn’t the latest version.
Sorry to be that guy, but…
Is IPv6 in your local network enabled?
Is mDNS working?
On your phone are you on the same subnet as Homey when adding the devices to your Thread mesh?
Have you got Homey Pro v 13.1.0 firmware installed?
Hi @deejayreissue ,
Yes, all above is applicable for me! Still can’t manage to get it working. I find it really strange, like I said, Also via Google Home and Apple Homekit is isn’t possible, so I do think my plug is faulty. Anyone else tried all above methods?
Yeah fair enough, sounds like it could be a faulty one.
You just bought one to test it I guess?
I only have one. Tomorrow I’ll go to IKEA to replace the faulty item for a new one.
