I have tried and battled to add and get Kajplats from IKEA to work. These are the new Matter devices from IKEA. So far tried 2 bulbs and 2 different switches. Anyone else had any experience or advise. Tips welcome
Same problem here. Looks like the needs an update.
Hi Padda, in meantime Ive found a solution. In Homey add a new device via matter. On your lamp is a QR code including a approx 10 digit number. Fill in this number. Switch on the lamp and it will be found.
Hi, I did do that and again had mixed results. The one switch I did manage to connect, keeps on losing connection. So I think its a matter of waiting for an update either from IKEA or Homey
Succeeded after several attempts.
What worked for me is to use āconnect a new Matterā device and when it fails, Homey offers to connect via Android. Before clicking this button, I switched to the 2.4ghz network my Homey is currently connected and scanned the qr code provided with the Kajplats.
One day later it did not feel good to connnect via Android and not via Homey.
Android/Google should not be the preferred Thread network, so in Google Home i removed my home which also removes their Thread network i assume.
I checked the Homey Thread network which changed from not available to available.
Connecting another Ikea Matter device (bilresa remote) was very smooth after this using the Ikea app and no longer āadd Matter deviceā
Hey guys, a small update.
i managed to connect them through IOS. After I scanned the QR code I resetted the lights and then it connected. This didnāt work with connecting through homey unfortunately.
I have managed to connect a bulb, but not the switches yet, I did try both the iOS route and the Homey routeā¦
Via Homey the bulb needs to be very near Homey because it uses Bluetooth for the initial connection. After that it will connect the bulb with Thread.
Ive tried both Kajplats (e27) and Bilresa with no success.
Ive tried through matter or the ikea home smart applet (both through homey and android)
all end up with the error:
Could not pair device: bad_request (0x0092)
Hi.
I had the same issues all of the above have mentioned above, the worst is that there was no concistency.
However, Iād suggest you try again by adding Kajplats form your iOS/Android app and choosing āadd via homeyā, then scan the QR but what is important - I kept my bulb directly within 2cm next to homey pro. I know this shouldnāt need such short proximity, but it worked⦠Later the range of Thread was decent - 5-6m.
I am also struggling. So far these are my findings:
-
Connecting is only possible via the iOS/Android option
-
Connecting is only possible by turning Kajplats 6 timeās off/on first
-
You need to be close to Homey Pro while connecting
After being connected while my homey and the lamp were in the same room, it worked. However, after moving my homey to the first floor, the connection was broken en could not be repaired.
This doesnāt seem normal to me. Has anyone experiences in the range of Matter over tread? It should be 10-30 meters according to ChatGPT.
The Ikea App doesnt show the new name for the new bulbs. but i could connect the bulbs using the correlating Tradfri Bulb in Homey. Instead of turning on/off 6x, i turned on/off 12x. apparently 6x is for matter, 12x is for zigbee.
Hello, iāve find a temperary solution, for use it on zigbee network only for On/Off function. On - Off the bulb for 6 times, flashing, now On - Off bulb for 12 times, flashing ( enter to zigbee mode) now add device on Homey, it see as Shelly 1 gen 4 (in my case), only On/Off function is possible
Iāve solved it.
Homey creates the Thread network and acts as the main controller.
DIRIGERA joins the same Thread network and I keep it mainly for IKEA firmware updates (OTA).
All IKEA devices (including KAJPLATS) are first added to DIRIGERA, which makes onboarding very easy.
Then I add the same devices to Homey either:
-
via the DIRIGERA community integration, or
-
via Matter share codes from the IKEA app (true Matter multi-admin, no reset required).
End result:
-
everything runs in one Thread mesh created by Homey
-
devices are updated via DIRIGERA (bulbs are on Matter 1.2)
-
Homey fully controls the devices directly over Matter/Thread
-
DIRIGERA is only needed for commissioning and OTA
I bought DIRIGERA very cheaply (around ā¬35), so using it just as a helper for onboarding and updates works perfectly.
