IKEA unsuported by Homey Pro, besides app?

Hi,

preface: I came from other smarthome solutions some month ago and generally quite happy with a 2026 Homey Pro.

I still have - as maybe many of you - some other stuff, partly integrated, partly not. Here relevant: a Apple Home (to be integrated later maybe, was a playgoud for matter) with some matter devices.

Round 1:
I needed some gadget replacement, when switching to Homey. E.g. Window/Door Sensors. Found IKEA MYGGBETT to be suitable. As you can imagine, I could not connect to them. Then found comments here in the community. Seems, no solution. After even IKEA did not reply at all, I did throw them in the trash. Price is not worth further work.

Round 2:
I did research for some Thread Router. Came along
Which Thread Devices Make Sense Today? Practical Buying Advice for Homey Users | Homey
Smart Plugs – Best Buy Guide | Homey

IKEA GRILLPLATS was a suggestion to buy.
Again now, the IKEA GRILLPLATS don´t integrate via the IKEA App.
Not with a Homey restart.
Not with the iOS Mode on the iPhone.
Again, there are other complaints here in community, besides being on best buy (how the f… do they come to the results, paid advertisment?)

New test: they actualy DO integrate with my Apple Home(while VERY slow).

Until this point, I thought the IKEA Matter to be crap.

Turns out, is a Homey Pro / IKEA App problem.

No using Homey pro, with an App maintained by Athom and buying stuff on Athoms best buy list - how will the issu be fixed?

Which Athom user is even here in the forum, I could add to the question?

Thanks,
Ralf

PS:

Update 1
I did meanwhile try to work through the different tips

  • play with different distances
  • “extra” button press during detection
  • reboot Homey
  • unpower device and Homey
  • Tried via Homey, Homey App (both ways, Homey ans iOS method)
  • tried several GRILLPLATS devices
    No luck.

Update 2

In touch with Athom support.
Even with unplugging Apple TVs and reconfiguring my eero WiFi, no luck so far.
Will keep updating.

I recently put a few IKEA gadgets in operation together with Homey Pro for testing, including IKEA MYGGBETT, TIMMERFLOTTE, and MYGGSPRAY. Partially registered via Apple, partially via Homey Pro, the devices are visible in the official IKEA app and pass on the data/responsibility correctly. Only the OTA updates require several runs.

I would not argue, that it’s impossible to register IKEA Matter with Homey, but it seems to be very unreliable. Nothing I would rate production ready, or give a sales advice on top.

There a lot of complaints, wether here, Reddit etc.

Now, it would be very helpful, if you could talk a bit on

  • how did you connect the devices to homey, how was the experience?
  • How is your (Matter, Thread) setup?

Thanks.

As I said, I have tested the IKEA devices directly via Apple and also via Homey. The pairing becomes problematic at a distance of more than 2.5m. If a try fails, the device must be powered off and the Homey Pro should be restarted (app restart alone does not always help). With the old FW (1.0.x), the button should be pressed briefly again during the search process. My Matter over Thread network at Homey consists of some Matter over Thread devices, including the IKEA test devices and some Siegenia window handles, but these are installed without the community app. Personally, I put more on Zigbee and WLAN, both are fully available in the house (over all floors) and on the used entire property (>1000 square metre)

The Homey IKEA app has nothing to do with Matter device pairing, only Zigbee. Matter is handled entirely by Homey’s core.

The door/window contact is connected, but is in the IKEA app but cannot be used, incorrect information (for example TIMMERFLOTT or MYGGSPRAY). The result is that the device will not run correctly the next time, although it is “connected”.

Do you use dirigera? I have that and when using matter bridge it only imports 18 of 27. Is it better to Connect all directly to Homey?

I have lights, controllers and two plugs.

25 Ikea devices connected without a hub. Everything works flawlessly.

Homey Pro 2026 connected via ethernet…

No, I want less additional hub-gadgets.
Ideally none, besides the Homey.

Do you have MYGGBETT and GRILLPLATS operational, as well?

Actually I come from Zigbey, as well.

I had the IKEA devices less then 20cm away from Homey. However -I will try a bit more distance, thinking about timing or distortion in HF with the low dsistance. Will try that additional button press, as well.

I have two GRILLPLATS and one MYGGBETT in use. I had no problems to add them and they works flawless:

Nevertheless, I know that there are several reports about problems with IKEA Matter over Thread devices. I recommend contacting Athom Support.

There are two ways to pair Matter over Thread devices with Homey:

  • via Homey’s Bluetooth connection
for this, the device must be near Homey
  • via a Smartphone’s Bluetooth connection
for this, the device doesn’t need to be near Homey, but it must, of course, be near the Smartphone

Thanks.

Tried all methods

Did update the orginal post, to keep my story at one place.

No luck.

Similar to my setup except that I’m running WiFi only.

Mixed Zigbee and Matter devices, mainly IKEA (few Sonoffs as well).

I had quite a few problems connecting some of the IKEA Matter devices.

How I succeeded:

I took my old Android phone, did factory reset, and only installed & configured network and Homey app.

Keeping phone, Homey and IKEA device really close (less than 50cm) and using Android connection.
It took a couple of tries but all the sudden it worked just fine!

My struggle described here:
Thread network question - Questions & Help - Homey Community Forum

Now, I need to get an Android phone, it seems.

That should work equally on iPhone I assume.
As long as You don’t have any other Thread or Matter configurations on that device if I understand it correctly as a novice.

DIrkG:

I connected some via Homey Pro and some via smartphone (iPhone/iPad). Distance information is for pairing via Homey PRO.

I’ve over 40 IKEA devices running with Homey Pro 2026, which runs Wifi only.

I’ve currently 8 GRILLPLATS to build my Thread mesh and the rest are battery powered devices (TIMMERFLOTTE in all rooms, MYGBETT on all Windows/Doors, some BILRESA for controlling the GRILLPLATS and a few others.

The experience for setting it up was not great, pairing directly with Homey Pro seemed a bit flaky and failed at least 50% of the time for me (also took really long).

But I figured out what helped me get a 100% success rate with new devices, from anywhere in my house:

  1. Use Homey’s App on smartphone and chose the pairing with Android/Apple option
  2. The device needs to be very close to your phone for the whole process (Blutooth)
  3. The phone needs good Wifi reception (same Wifi as Homey)
  4. The device must also be close to homey or to an already paired, permanently powered Thread device (so it can connect to Thread) e.g. the permanently plugged in GRILLPLATS work well for me
  5. Where possible, use the QR code for pairing instead of the 9-digit code (it contains more details about the device, e.g. provider and device type)

My biggest early mistake was to overestimate the reach/power of Thread devices, especially the battery powered ones. I only had the battery devices and two GRILLPLATS, which was enough to pair things (with some trial and error), but devices became unresponsive after a few hours/days. After I systematically introduced powered thread devices (also with some redundancy, to be a real mesh), the issue is gone for me and everything runs stable.

I’ve also <10 Zigbee devices in use, mostly relays behind light switches (as Matter over Thread relays are still a rare thing and I do not want Matter over Wifi in my network). I don’t experience any issues, despite using same frequencies.
