Matter Upgrade in Homey

Is there any indication when Matter will be upgraded in Homey so that devices display more energy information - not only power consumed but also voltage. I need to log voltage as I’m getting flickering in lights and other devices turned on/off due, I think to voltage fluctuation. This fluctuation may be a grid issue or a solar PV switching issue (Sungrow hybrid inverter with 15kw panels and 50kW battery), or a wiring issue in individual circuits. This setup is in a rural (farm) area in Australia where grid lines are very long and supply is regularly interrupted due to weather events. Relatively stable voltage is necessary to protect equipment.

It’s not a Homey Matter issue but what your device is supporting. I have several Matter smart plugs that logs Watts, Amperes, Volts and kWh.

Good morning Arnold,
Tks for yr reply. I have a Matter Smart Plug with ‘Energy’. The documentation states it is capable of reporting V, A W & kWh but these parameters are not able to be exposed when in a Homey environment. Chat-GPT states that it is because there is pending version of Matter to be finalised and then incorporated into Homey. Is this correct and when can one expect it? I’m aware that Zigbee devises expose V,A,W&kWh, but what about Matter devices in Homey.

Which smart plug? Model number?

Hi Sven,
SmartHome Zigbee Smart Plug - SmartHome is an Australian compnay - the plug is probably a rebranded OEM. No model number is quoted.
Eve Energy Smart plug & Power Meter with Matter - Model #: 10ECF6051for Australia. Same as International Model #: 10ECF6051 - probably because of unique Australian type plug spec.

Cheers
John

See if you can update it’s firmware somehow, John. Or maybe sit & wait: Eve is being naughty:

ZigBee and Matter are different protocols, a ZigBee plug requires a Homey app for that specific device

Thanks for that Sven,

Yes I know that - but neither exposes voltage.

See the post form Peter-Kawa - Matter 1.3 appears to be on its way - sometime.
John

Thanks for that Peter.

I guess I’ll have to be patient.
John

Problem is that Athom don’t typically fully implement a protocol, they implement the parts that benefit either their own apps, or apps/devices from parent company LG. So some parts of Matter 1.3 are already implemented, including energy monitoring.

Why it doesn’t work with your device is anyone’s guess, but it’s not uncommon for manufacturers to use proprietary Matter clusters, or (especially before Matter 1.3) alternative ways of querying the device for energy usage. Which is usually solved by firmware upgrades of the device.

Owwwww just to be clear @John_Loebenstein , I did not mean a Matter update > I meant you’d check, or wait, for an Eve firmware update.
(No clue how and when Homey Matter updates will happen)

Power measuring via Matter 1.3 was already implemented some time ago. I believe the plug you are using might be Tuya based. Tuya unfortunately doesn’t follow the Matter spec and implements custom clusters, that might be why you see some information missing

Just wondering if there’s a way to implement custom clusters in Homey using an approach similar to the ‘raw’ Tuya stuff?

Andy

But Tuya devices use the Tuya cloud, so you can use the Tuya app:

The Tuya app has a mechanism to work with devices and attributes that are not yet included in the app. Just wondering if there could be a generic mechanism to work with custom clusters defined by manufacturers.

You’re talking about this one here mate? SmartHome Zigbee Smart Plug (with Energy Metering) | SmartHome

If yes, that’s only Zigbee not Matter. And yes it has voltage, current and power, see screenshot.

I have a bunch of them from Smarthome and if you install the Smarthome app for Homey, they work just fine, otherwise it includes as a generic Zigbee device and you only get on/off and power.

Hey John

I am also from Australia and have the plugs i brought from Smart Home,

As what @danone mentioned if you use the app you can see the values for the Zigbee plugs and that works well,

I recently logged a call about some other functions i needed to control which was the power state of the plug after a power outage.

After deep dive into the Zigbee protocol and what these devices should support i know they support it but, in the end they said they are working on enabling these devices to have this functionality with Homey, But the basic power monitoring should be working …

This should work, but you might need to upgrade the firmware (e.g. using Apple Home or another Matter hub) and then re-add the device to Homey. See also [SOLVED] Eve Energy via Matter in Homey Pro - #17 by praseodym
