Homey Pro always timing out

I’m facing a very challenging situation with Homey Pro. I have the 2023 version, and my network is comprised mostly of Z-Wave devices.

Whenever I try to control any device, it keeps giving timeout 10000ms, or it says “TRANSMIT_COMPLETE_NO_ACK”. For a while it was at least still controlling the WiFi devices, but now not even that.

I tried changing WiFi network, changing position of the controller, doing a PTP, and even a full factory reset using the DFU mode connected to my mac (the regular factory reset procedure kept failing). Homey is connected to an ethernet cable using the official Homey adaptor. I’ve tested that cable on my Mac and there is definitely connecting coming through.

Any idea what to do? I’m completely out of options now. I must say that the journey into making it all work with Homey has been far more time taking and frustrating than I expected :worried:

Just contacted support with the same issue.

Was using the Homey Pro 2023 for a month or so, then started having timeouts (sometimes command still goes through after a few minutes) a few days back.

Did you get a resolution to this?

What solved my issue was doing a full factory reset of Homey via DFU mode, and then restoring from my latest backup. The situation has improved about 90%.

Thanks!
Backed up my Homey to try that in case the support ticket doesn’t pan out.

I’ve same issue. Started few weeks ago. All apps are crashing by timeout. Nothing works :disappointed:

When you did this…did you have to repair your z wave devices? I recently switched from Hubitat to homey pro and I’m ready to switch back. Homey pro has been nothing short of a dumpster fire.

I gradually re-paired all the ones that I had paired as authenticated, as non-authenticated, and that made a big difference.

Litteraly doing that as I type this… Seems to be helping alot. Guess too much S2 traffic?

Which is another question… Is there any “real” concern about having all my devices as insecure?

Probably not, except for cameras and smart locks.

I’ve been using the Fibaro HC2 for over seven years throughout my entire house (which is new, with thick concrete walls and good insulation). From the beginning of using Homey Pro, I experienced some issues.

Initially, I experimented with the HC2 in my attic and a room filled with various devices. When I moved the Homey Pro a couple of meters to another room, the entire setup became barely usable. Devices could no longer be reached. When I rebooted it, it failed to reconnect to Wi-Fi. I tried entering recovery mode by laying the device on its back, but that didn’t work. After several restarts, it finally reconnected to Wi-Fi. My conclusion was that it had Wi-Fi-related issues. To resolve this, I connected it to ethernet using the original ethernet adapter, but it never switched to the ethernet connection.

So, from the start, I had my reservations about the device.

I decided to reposition the Homey Pro to a central location in the house and started re-pairing all the devices (mainly Fibaro dimmers, switches, and Aeotec Multisensors). However, the pairing process didn’t go smoothly. Many attempts timed out. I placed my trust in the Z-Wave mesh network and assumed expanding the network would improve coverage.

Yesterday, I moved to the first floor and paired around 15 Fibaro Dimmer 2 devices. My living room, kitchen, and open spaces contain 10 Dimmer 2 devices. I replaced two of them with Zigbee devices (ROBB rotary dimmers) and added a Homey Bridge in the porch, which also has about a dozen Z-Wave devices.

After pairing all the lights (not without difficulty), I began experimenting with moods and flows for light settings. But no matter what I tried, I kept encountering ‘Timeout after 10000ms’ messages.

And the porch… I cannot connect even one device. It seems like the Bridge does not do its work as a satellite.

It feels like the network has poor coverage. Devices—though not always the same ones—either don’t respond or react after several seconds, sometimes even minutes. At this point, it feels like my expectations might be too high. But considering this is a device over 10 years newer than the Fibaro HC2, I was hoping for an improvement, not a setback.

I think today I’ll try the solution of Giovanni. A full factory reset. But I’m open to suggestions.

I can’t quite discover from your post if the manuals you read were incorrect.
You might point fingers a bit too soon here?

I’d recommend to read all KB articles, especially this

Well, I sorted it out… a little.
BTW: I know that in ideal situations, pairing should be close to the Homey Pro. But all the Dimmer 2s are in the wall sockets. For 50 dimmers, that is a lot of work. My experience with Fibaro was better. It reached them, sometimes via neighbors.

But that did not have anything to do with the ‘timeout 10000ms’ error messages. In Developer Tools, I noticed a lot of ‘Unknown nodes’—about 30 of them. They were all routing traffic. I suspected they were caused by aborted installations of the NEO Coolcam Wall Plugs I had. Pairing was terrible, so I had many attempts.

I force-removed the ‘Unknown nodes.’ That was a bit of work, but I cleaned up the list. After that, the ‘timeout 10000ms’ messages occurred far less often.

Still, the Z-Wave network does not seem to be in great shape. When I send a command to 10 devices at once, it often loses track. Switching moods or scenes is still tricky. Devices that aren’t really that far away create very complex routes to reach the Homey Pro. Even after installing an Aeotec Range Extender between the house and the porch, the devices in the porch create a 4-node-long route to Homey and do not respond immediately after pressing a button in the app.

Does anyone know if this is normal for Homey, or am I demanding too much? Any ideas to boost the Z-Wave network’s coverage and speed are welcome.
