I’ve been using the Fibaro HC2 for over seven years throughout my entire house (which is new, with thick concrete walls and good insulation). From the beginning of using Homey Pro, I experienced some issues.
Initially, I experimented with the HC2 in my attic and a room filled with various devices. When I moved the Homey Pro a couple of meters to another room, the entire setup became barely usable. Devices could no longer be reached. When I rebooted it, it failed to reconnect to Wi-Fi. I tried entering recovery mode by laying the device on its back, but that didn’t work. After several restarts, it finally reconnected to Wi-Fi. My conclusion was that it had Wi-Fi-related issues. To resolve this, I connected it to ethernet using the original ethernet adapter, but it never switched to the ethernet connection.
So, from the start, I had my reservations about the device.
I decided to reposition the Homey Pro to a central location in the house and started re-pairing all the devices (mainly Fibaro dimmers, switches, and Aeotec Multisensors). However, the pairing process didn’t go smoothly. Many attempts timed out. I placed my trust in the Z-Wave mesh network and assumed expanding the network would improve coverage.
Yesterday, I moved to the first floor and paired around 15 Fibaro Dimmer 2 devices. My living room, kitchen, and open spaces contain 10 Dimmer 2 devices. I replaced two of them with Zigbee devices (ROBB rotary dimmers) and added a Homey Bridge in the porch, which also has about a dozen Z-Wave devices.
After pairing all the lights (not without difficulty), I began experimenting with moods and flows for light settings. But no matter what I tried, I kept encountering ‘Timeout after 10000ms’ messages.
And the porch… I cannot connect even one device. It seems like the Bridge does not do its work as a satellite.
It feels like the network has poor coverage. Devices—though not always the same ones—either don’t respond or react after several seconds, sometimes even minutes. At this point, it feels like my expectations might be too high. But considering this is a device over 10 years newer than the Fibaro HC2, I was hoping for an improvement, not a setback.
I think today I’ll try the solution of Giovanni. A full factory reset. But I’m open to suggestions.
