Homey pro 2026 zigbee future home

I’m wondering if homey pro 2026 could handle 200-300 zigbee devices? I’m planning to be like 30 -40 end devices (smoke detectors, motion sensors, etc) and 180 -200 routers (smart plugs, lamps, wal switches, etc)

The main reason to choose zigbee is the price + brands that are supported

I know matter and thread are futurproof, but there are not that much things to choose from

Is this realistic with homey pro 2026 or am i completly going stupid?

I doubt any Homey user has such a large network, so nobody will be able to give you a definitive answer.

However, if I were to make a guess, then no, Homey won’t be able to handle it (and not over Thread/Matter either).

Based on this article, Homey recommends not building too big, and they suggest that this is more than 100 devices.

https://support.homey.app/hc/en-us/articles/10374465562652-Creating-a-stable-Zigbee-network-with-Homey-Pro

You always have the option of setting up multiple zigbee networks. For example Hue lights via a Hue Bridge would be a separate network. Or you could consider a zigbee2MQTT with an external zigbee coordinator. But even with additional zigbee networks, you would need to consider storage, CPU and memory usage of your Homey Pro 2026.

Perhaps you might be better of with a combination of Zigbee2MQTT, MQTT and (i.e.) a SMLight Zigbee gateway. You can import the devices into Homey with this excellent app.

It does need some more work, but is much more scalable (and reliable) than Homey’s Zigbee.
You can even add multiple Zigbee gateways with it’s own devices (for in a basement, garden shed, etc). And use them all in Homey together.

and where can I see how many devices I have?

Via the Zigbee section in the Homey Developer Tools: Homey Developer Tools.

I know. There is zigbee. and z wave.

or maybe where is the total number? without virtual ones?! (+wifi, ..)

You can use a HomeyScript

As this topic is about large scale Zigbee networks I thought you wanted to know the number of Zigbee devices.

As far as I know there is no one comprehensive overview in Homey that counts all your devices, unless you make a script for that.

However, you can get a list of all your devices via the web app, if you switch the device tab to list mode. Then you can order the devices per app, so you know which ones you should not count (like virtual devices from the Device Capabilities app.

We’re strictly talking about Zigbee here, though. I’m sure Homey is able to support more than 200 devices in total.

I won’t tell my wife… I was curious.

So u are sure it handle 200-300 zigbee devices?

But so it would be possible with some tweaking

I never said that. In fact, I suggested that it’s not possible (at least not with Homey’s own Zigbee implementation).

Hmmmm okay that sucks then :cry:

Not sure there is much to tweak except limiting the number of apps. With the Homey Pro you are limited to the memory it has onboard.

Have you considered the possibility of Homey SHS? It would give you the option of selecting hardware with more resources. You could combine that with Zigbee2MQTT, MQTT and a Zigbee gateway as was suggested before. Although a little more work to setup, it is the more scalable option.

Maybe, i’ll change my light bulbs to another protocol

(200, 300) × 60 = 12kw I thought about the wires

If i do my best i think i can reduce to 125 devices

It is possible, but you need to spread across bridges. What devices do you have? Standard on/off devices and lights can be controller by the basic (€50) Hue bridge which can also be integrated into Homey.

What brand devices do you have?
