Is there any thread for Hue products directly to Homey and not through bridge?
Having issues with a motion detector.

I am pretty new to Homey so please excuse if this has been answered elsewhere - I tried but could not find an answer.
Given that the Homey Athom Philips Hue App is a memory hog and requires restarting every 8 hours to stop it from crashing Homey is there another way of doing this?
Ideally I am looking to be able to access the Hue Groups and Scenes, and only a very small number of the 80 odd light bulbs in the house spread over two Hue Hubs.
If this is possible then I can remove 90% of the light bulbs significantly reducing the loading on the App, this would make the Athom App better behaved and reduce Homey lock ups and crashes.
Win Win
The alternative is to either reduce the number of bulbs in Homey and they I have to decide which rooms are no longer controlled and source something else, when you have something else than you may as well us that to manage all the lighting, if lighting is not controlled by Homey ⦠etc etc
If I can turn a group (room) on off & vary light level, plus turn on/off Scenes then you donāt usually need individual bulb control.
Is there a way to lobby Athom to do this and make their product more reliable?
Are you using Hue Hub? I have more lights and accessories than that all working through 2 hubs and it works perfectly without the memory issues
So just added them all up.
Currently have 61 bulbs over two hubs and 25 accessories, mostly motion sensors.
The other 20 bulbs are not yet installed.
So how much memory is your Athom Hue app using.
On restart it uses 25mb after 8 hours it is up to 75mb
Interesting, I have 77 lamps, 12 accessories across 2 hue hubs. Memory usage runs between 24 and 31mb and thatās over the previous 5 days. I almost never have to restart Hue
I use Hue scenes and rooms to adjust lamps, I hardly ever use Homey to address individual lamps but let Philips Hue do the heavy lifting. I use Homey zone activity to manage sensors
Hi!
Does anyone know a way to āforce updateā the color variable for a Hue light in Homey? Iām trying to mimic a dynamic scene on some non-Hue lights in Homey. The problem is that the reported colors of the Hue lights in Homey donāt change at all when I start a dynamic scene in the Hue app. Any ideas?
Unfortunately, Homey doesnāt seem to receive the Hue variables fast enough. Donāt know why this is but Iām fairly sure what you are attempting is not possible. Even apps like Zone memory cannot read the variables correctly even when you factor in a delay
Ok! Thank you for taking the time to answer me!
The Athom Philips Hue App has stabilised since, at Athomās support recommendation I force a periodic restart of the App.
After trial and error found every six hours reduced memory usage down from 70mb to 40mb.
Now Homey is much more stable, not crashing 30 times a day.
So a win win, hopefully, eventually there is a replacement for this App that is more stable.
This is a graph I captured once I had started a 6 hour restart and had been trying daily then 12 hour restarts.
I guess theyāve given up on ever actually fixing the app then
(although it might also be a memory leak in the SDK, there are other apps that have memory leak issues without any obvious reason)
Well it finally killed my Homey :-j
I tried to add a new motion sensor I had added to Hue.
After selecting the Hue Hub it sat for 45 mins stuck trying to retrieve the Hue devices. I gave up.
Restarted the Philips Hue App.
Same issue.
Went to Homey settings and selected restart Homey, all I can get is
Hard rebooted Homey unplugged plugged back in and all get is the same.
Homey has lost its mindā¦. Homey is dead long live Homey
I guess time to dust off a Rasberry Pie and try HASS.
Andā¦
The Add Hue device worked.
Looks like the Homey just needed some alone time to throw up and is now feeling better ![]()
Andā¦ā¦.
Homey is now reporting 27% free mem, for the last few months it has been 1% - 2%
And Philips Hue App is only using 30.8mb RAM
So Homeyās vomit session may have helped it?
UPDATE 10 Oct 22
The Athom Philips Hue App memory usage appears to have improved radically since the Homey crash.
Before the Blue line is where the Hue app would crash, often taking Homey offline.
The Blue line is where I started automatically restarting the Hue App, on Athom support suggestion, first daily settling on every 6 hours.
The Green line was when Homey vomited, hard and took a very long time to reboot.
Since then the Athom Philips Hue app has been behaving.
Fingers crossed.
Hi,
I asked more than a year ago for supporting switching Hue Sync light modes. Say sync to music or video modes.
Setting modes is not supported by the Athom App so we can cannot create flows for this. Only switching HDMI inputs is supported.
May I remind Athom that light sync is the core benefit of the Hue Sync hence makes no sense that this App of yours does not support switching modes.
I would gladly add this feature myself if this App was on GitHub. The Hue API fully supports this.
Cheers
you should avoid using the Hue driver from Athom. its very bad written, i would recommend but i know its a bit of a long shot but using Home Assistant to add your Hue lights and import them using the Home Assistant Community app trust me you wonāt be disappointed. the only thing you need is a spare computer/raspberry 3 or 4 or a Docker capable NAS (synology)
if anyone needs help setting this up you can DM me
I am also being hit hard by the poorly working Hue app. My homey immediatly turns into a poll loop with my devices turning them in a timeout error and then they work again. This is 1 miunute they are working, and literally the next they are unavailable. While this is going one the entire Homey gets so swamped that everything starts to work poorly till the point that the Homey becomes unreachable for longer periods.
If I disable the app the Homey is stable and works fast and flawlessly.
But since its a key element of my automation its really painfull to let it go ![]()
I raised this issue with Homey Support they are aware of the issue, but does not impact enough users to expend dev effort to resolve.
They recommend that I restart the Athom Hue App, I have and found restating it every 6 hours settled things down a lot.
For me it goes haywire within minutes of a restart or even reboot of Homey.
So its not a working workaround for me, i have such a schedule in the hope it would but unfortunately it doesnāt.
