So the 2 FP1E devices that I added to the M3 hub did eventually show up on the Homey device page. They defaulted to the room/zone where the M3 hub was located within Homey. They also had different icons that the FP1E devices that originally ported over from the M3, which is likely why I missed them before. I also went ahead and and added all the FP1Es directly to Homey (knowing that I would lose firmware update capability). I made sure the firmwares were up to date before shifting them over to Homey’s Zigbee.
Not irreversible: when you want to update OTA, just pair them to the Aqara Hub again, perform update and then pair them to Homey again.
Note: updating OTA functionality with Homey is on it’s way:
It is good to note however that Aqara is one of the few partners which isn’t open to share their OTA files. So I can’t promise that functionality will work with Aqara devices.
Oké, so we can only use Aqara with Homey and not first with Aqara hub and then with the Homey?
we can use Aqara device and hub with HomeKit (home Apple) but not with Homey? We can only use a Aqara device with homey alone.
I forgot about HomeKit, and yes, it might be possible with this app
I assume you mean ‘…cannot promise…’?
That’s a pitty. Do you know why Aqara is hesitant about sharing firmware updates?
Obviously they want to sell their Aqara hubs more, so they prevent updates from other systems so they sell more hubs. Besides that, they might also get way more support tickets and RMAs from people who updated through another (third party) system and bricked their device by doing so.
I think it’s obvious why most manufacturers won’t share OTAs.
Sorry, I did indeed meant to say can’t**
Aqara has always been a bit hesitant, took us 3 years to finally get their Zigbee implemention documentation… partially ![]()
My logical assumption would be that they also want a reason for users to buy their own hub.
Yes those are all valid reasons of course.
On the other hand you could also argue that many users just want one single (or already have an existing) home automation hub, which is not necessarily one of Aqara’s own hubs. Being able to control and maintain Aqara devices via third party hubs, like Homey, might be a key reason for users to purchase Aqara devices in the first place and/or continue buying Aqara devices.
Well, I think the majority of users use an Aqara hub, and they likely don’t want to deal with support tickets from people bricking their devices by updating from an unofficial, unsupported method (another, third-party hub like Homey).
I would personally never update my devices from an unofficial method, and would always use the manufacturer’s hub (or software, like eWeLink CUBE for Sonoff) to perform updates. Because if you brick your devices by using an unofficial hub, the brand obviously isn’t going to support you there, it’s not their problem. However, when updating via the brand’s official hub, it’s their ecosystem and they have to support it. This way, you can be 100% sure that your devices are always updated using the correct method.
By using Homey (or any other third party gateway) to update devices, there’s a risk of bricking your devices because they might not use the correct method for updating the device. The risk of bricking the device might be low, but there’s still a risk. And when using a third party hub, the brand isn’t going to repair/reflash the device once they recognize the unofficial update, they will likely charge you for the repair (even when it’s in warranty, since I’m almost 100% sure that using unofficial update methods voids your warranty) or simply don’t provide any support when the device is flashed with an unsupported method.
However, since Homey requires the files to be provided by the manufacturer, in my opinion it would become an officially supported method in that case. While I wouldn’t run those updates myself (too much risk IMO), it is in my opinion the best method for updating from a third party hub.
Adding a presence sensor via the Aqara app (Zigbee) and on to Homey (via the HUB) only exposes the motion sensor. Not the presence sensor.
So Aqara’s API doesn’t have all device information? I wanted to do something similar with connecting several devices to an Aqara hub and integrating them to my Homey using the Aqara API, but it seems that won’t be useful if not all information is exposed.
It’s weird as the FP300 is specifically recommended by Homey. So peculiar that it doesn’t seem to work fully. I tried directly via matter and zigbee (endless connection issues with that) and then no zigbee through a small Aqara hub. Very responsive but doens’t expose presence to Homey, only motion and the others (humidity and luminance etc).
I’m struggling to find a presence sensor that works reliably with Homey
All well-intentioned information, or even information that doesn’t answer my question. That’s why I’m asking again.
I have Aqara devices that I connect to my Aqara hub. Normally, these would automatically appear in the Homey Pro as well, because I connected them to each other using Matter. But now I have connected a new device to my Aqara hub and I can’t for the life of me get it to show up in Homey Pro.
What should I do? I understand that I can connect the Aqara device directly to Homey Pro, but I would like to see it in my Aqara hub as well. The question therefore seems quite simple to me, and I hope someone can enlighten me on this.
Now, when setting up a new Aqara device, I do see it in my Aqara hub, but not directly in my Homey Pro anymore (which always happened before, or if I remove everything and set up Matter again, then it does, but I don’t want that. I only want to see it now when I add 1 device). HELP
But how do you get it in Homey? Using Aqara API, IFTTT?
And did you test if motion and presence might be a combined sensor in this case?
Meaning, as long as you keep in range of the sensor, not moving, the motion alarm should be active the whole time.
This has been addressed by Athom before in this post: Aqara FP300 with Matter! - #195 by Doekse. The TL;DR is that motion and presence are combined when using the FP300 in matter mode.
Hallo, EdNL
