[APP][Pro] Recycle België - Belgian waste collection calendar with rich Flow cards, iCal export and quiet hours

Get notifications about PMD, paper, GFT (compost), residual waste and every other fraction of the Belgian Recycle!/Fostplus collection calendar, directly on your Homey. Multi-address, multi-language (NL/FR/DE/EN), no API key or login required. Works everywhere in Belgium.

:belgium: Native support for Dutch — settings page, Flow cards, capability titles and spoken sentences all translate automatically. Per-location language picker so a Walloon address gets French fraction names while your home stays Dutch.

What does it do?

Ask once for postal code + street + house number and you’re done. The app fetches your personal pickup calendar daily from the official public Fostplus API (api.fostplus.be) — the same one the Recycle! mobile app uses. No API key, no account, no third-party service.

Features

  • :house: Multi-location — add as many addresses as you like (home, parents, holiday house, …). Each gets its own name, language, reminder windows and tracked fractions. They show up as a dropdown option in every Flow card.
  • :bell: Dual reminders — every location has an “early” (default 24h before) and “urgent” (default 4h before) reminder trigger, each with optional per-fraction overrides. E.g. GFT 36h early because it goes out the night before, PMD 24h early.
  • :date: Rich Flow cards — triggers for collection today / tomorrow / in X days, early & urgent reminders, next-collection-changed, calendar-refreshed, no-collections-this-week; multi-fraction triggers (“any of max 3”); conditions for today / tomorrow / on-date / days-until / a comma-separated fraction list; actions to refresh, get next collection, get the next X days, build a spoken TTS sentence, build a ready-made notification, and find the nearest recycle park.
  • :mute: Quiet hours per location — reminder triggers stay silent inside your window (e.g. 22:00-07:00). Data events still fire.
  • :white_check_mark: Per-fraction filter — pick exactly which fractions you care about (only PMD? Everything except glass? Up to you).
  • :house_with_garden: Collection Point device — optional. Each address can be added as a Homey device with capabilities: next collection (text + ISO date), days until next, upcoming 2 days summary, and today / tomorrow alarms. Looks great on the mobile card.
  • :bar_chart: Dashboard widget — a “Next collection” widget for your Homey dashboard: pick a location, see a big days-until counter, the date, colour-coded fraction chips and a list of the following days. (Requires Homey firmware 12.1.0+.)
  • :calendar: iCal export & subscription — download a .ics file per location, or copy the webcal:// subscription URL. See the caveat below on remote sync.
  • :wastebasket: Nearest recycle park — Flow action that returns the closest recycle parks for a location, sorted by distance from your Homey, with a maps link and distance in km.
  • :iphone: Notification preset — Flow action that returns ready-to-pipe title / body / color / icon / date tokens for “Send notification” actions.
  • :wrench: Diagnostics export — one-click PII-scrubbed JSON dump from settings, handy when reporting bugs without leaking your address.
  • :earth_africa: Multi-language — NL / FR / DE / EN, per location.

Quick start

  1. Install the app via the App Store link above
  2. More → Apps → Recycle België → Settings → Add location
  3. Postal code → street → house number → Save
  4. (optional) Add the location as a device via Devices → + → Recycle België → Collection Point
  5. Build Flow cards (search for “Recycle België” in the Flow editor)

Example Flows

  • Early reminder: When “Early reminder for GFT at Home” → Speak “Tomorrow morning the GFT bin is collected, put it out tonight.”
  • Urgent ping: When “Urgent reminder for PMD at Home” → Send push + flash the front-door bulb red for 30 seconds.
  • Recycle park run: When motion in the garage at the weekend → Find recycle parks near Home → Push a notification with the nearest park’s address and distance.

Privacy

No user data leaves your Homey except address-search and calendar-fetch requests to api.fostplus.be. The geolocation permission is used only to compute the distance to recycle parks locally. No tracking, no analytics, no account. The iCal subscription URL contains an opaque per-location token (not your address). Not affiliated with Fostplus.

Known caveats

  • The name “Recycle België” and the use of Fostplus data: I am not affiliated with Fostplus. The app only uses the public endpoints their own mobile app uses.
  • Reminder times are local Homey time (CET/CEST). Pickups are date-only, so reminders anchor on midnight of the pickup day.
  • Polling once per day around midnight — not real-time, but the Fostplus calendar doesn’t move faster than that either.
  • The iCal subscription URL is your Homey’s LAN address, so it only works for calendar apps polling from your home network (e.g. Apple Calendar on a Mac at home). Cloud calendars (Google) and phones on mobile data can’t reach a LAN URL — for those, use the one-off .ics download instead.

Changelog

2.3.0 Dashboard widget: a "Next collection" widget with a days-until counter, date and colour-coded fraction chips (Homey 12.1.0+).
2.2.0 Nearest recycle park: Find recycle parks now sorts by distance from your Homey and adds a km token. Internal code refactor (no behaviour change).
2.1.5 Flow cards with an empty or deleted location fail gracefully instead of throwing. Removed unused translation keys.

Hello, thanks for your work!

What are the main differences with the Afval Herinneringen App, because i have that one running.

Link does not work

@DDC This app works like the Recycle app for your smartphone but the on Homey. Only for Belgium.

@Vincent_Ducate Recycle België | Homey
App is still waiting for approval, but here is the test version

Update: App is approved! @DDC & @Vincent_Ducate

The latest version - v2.0.1 is online and approved.

Hi, Is it possible that there is a bug in “then notification samenstelllen voor volgende ophaling bij location”? it always say “Vandaag wordt opgehaald: gft, PMD.” but it should be: “volgende ophaling: gft,PMD op datum x” or something).

It is sunday btw so prety sure there is no garbage colection today :slight_smile:

@LionelDerBoven
Hi Lionel, thanks for the clear report — you’re right, this was a real bug. The “Next pickup” option was using the “today” prefix internally, so it always said “Vandaag wordt opgehaald: …” even when the next pickup was days away, and the date was missing.

Fixed in v2.1.4 (just pushed to test). The message now reads:
“Volgende ophaling: gft, PMD — 2026-08-18 (over 2 dagen).”

I also added two extra tokens to the action (Date and Days until) so you can build your own message format if you prefer. Update to the test build and let me know if it looks right now.

Small update round since the last post :backhand_index_pointing_down:

v2.2.0 — your nearest recycle park
The Find recycle parks action now sorts by distance from your Homey and returns the distance (km) to the closest park, plus a maps link. Great for a flow like “motion in the garage on the weekend → send me the address of the nearest park”. Under the hood there’s also a big cleanup: all Flow-card logic now lives in its own module, which makes future changes safer (no difference for you).

v2.1.4 — bug fix, thanks to @LionelDerBoven :folded_hands:
Nice catch: the Build notification action with the “Next pickup” option always said “Today these are collected…”, even when the pickup was days away. It now reads “Next pickup: gft, PMD — 2026-08-18 (in 2 days)”, with extra Date and Days-until tokens so you can build your own message.

v2.1.5 — small hardening
Flow cards with an empty or deleted location now fail quietly instead of throwing an error.

The full changelog is in the opening post. Keep the bugs and ideas coming — I read everything. :wastebasket::recycling_symbol:

Hi I would love to have a dahsboard widget for this app. I used to use the Trashcan Reminder widget but it no longer supports the Belgian Fostplus Recycle API.
Thank you!

@TimVW

Hi Tim, good timing, I just shipped exactly that! :tada:

v2.3.0 adds a “Next collection” dashboard widget. Add it to your Homey dashboard, pick which location it should show, and it displays a big days-until counter, the date, colour-coded fraction chips for the next pickup, and a compact list of the following days. There’s also a setting for how many upcoming days to list.

It’s in the test build now (needs Homey firmware 12.1.0+). Give it a try and let me know how it looks on your dashboard, happy to tweak the layout.

Great! Where can I download the test build?

Thanks,
Tim

@TimVW Look at the start topic, 2nd link Test Version

Hi,

I think the dark mode of the Dashboard widget needs some tweaking, it ‘s not so easy to read.

I also think that the date is mentioned more than enough, 4x.

In my printscreen the “3 dagen” in green and “do 03/09” would be enough.

Thanks for sharing the app!

Regards,

Tim

@TimVW

Hi Tim, thanks for the sharp feedback — both fixed in v2.3.2 (test build):

  • Dark mode readability: the text was picking up the theme from the OS colour-scheme, but the dashboard sets its own theme, so it ended up dark-on-dark. It now uses Homey’s theme-aware colours and stays legible in both light and dark.
  • Repeated date: you’re right, it was mentioned four times. The next pickup now shows just the green days-until counter and the weekday + short date (e.g. “3 dagen” · “Do 03/09”). Dropped the “in X days” line and the full ISO date.

Update to the test build and let me know if the dark mode looks good on your dashboard now. Thanks for trying the app!

Looks perfect now, thanks!

If you select more than one day, the last day is not correct displayed.

regards,

Tim

@TimVW

Fixed in v2.3.3 (test build) — thanks again! The widget was estimating its height, but rows get taller when the fraction chips wrap, so the last row got clipped. It now measures its real rendered height, so every day fits no matter how many days or chips you show.

It’s much better now but there is a lot of empty space when you select only 1 or 2 days.

regards,

Tim

@TimVW
Fixed in v2.3.4 (test build). It was measuring the padded frame (which the dashboard keeps at the widget’s configured height) instead of just the content, plus the minimum height was too high. It now sizes to the content exactly, so no empty space with 1-2 days and no clipping with many. Thanks for the thorough testing! :folded_hands:
