[APP][Pro] Parcel Tracker: every parcel from 132 carriers, without carrier accounts

:package: Parcel Tracker follows the parcels you are waiting for, from carriers across Europe, North America and Oceania. You don’t log in anywhere: a tracking number is enough, and for some carriers the postcode. The app recognises the carrier itself, checks more often as the delivery gets closer, and tells your Homey when the courier is on the way, when a parcel waits at a pickup point and when it has arrived.

Free, no account, and your parcels stay on your Homey. The only thing that leaves it is the question to the carrier itself.

Tracking numbers are long, so there are several ways to get them in:

  • Paste anything. Copy the tracking link or the whole shipping e-mail and paste it in the number field of the app settings, the Parcels widget or the Flow card “Track a parcel”. The app takes the number, the carrier and the postcode out of it.
  • Share from your phone. The app has its own share address. Set up an iPhone Shortcut or Android HTTP Shortcuts once (the steps are in the app settings, tab Share), and from then on you share a shipping e-mail or link straight to Homey.
  • Forward e-mails. Let a service like IFTTT or Make receive your shipping mails and post them to the same address, or use any e-mail app for Homey with the card “Track the parcels in a text”. A mail rule then does it all by itself.
  • From a Flow. “Track a parcel” takes a number or a link, with an optional name and the person it is for.

Parcels from AliExpress and other shops in Asia start with Cainiao, 4PX or a similar carrier. As soon as the parcel gets a local number (PostNL, bpost, DHL and so on), the app switches to that carrier and keeps the first part of the journey in the history.

:bell: What you can do with it

Flow cards

  • Triggers: a parcel is added, the status changed, out for delivery, delivered, ready for pickup, a problem, back to the sender, at customs, the expected delivery changed, new news from the carrier, parcels expected today (once in the morning), nothing on the way anymore, a parcel stays unknown.
  • Conditions: a parcel is out for delivery, expected today, waiting at a pickup point, has a problem, more than a number of parcels on the way, a chosen parcel has a status.
  • Actions: track a parcel, track the parcels in a text, stop tracking, mark as received, rename, check all now, clear delivered parcels, and a summary sentence to read out or send (“2 parcels on the way. Shoes from PostNL is out for delivery, expected today 13:00 to 15:00.”).

Every card can be limited to one person, so each member of the household gets their own flows.

Devices

  • Parcel overview: parcels on the way, expected today, out for delivery and at a pickup point, the next delivery and the last news, plus alarms for “courier on the way” and “problem”. Add one per person if you like.
  • Parcel: one device per parcel, with status, expected time, carrier, last scan and progress. Handy on a dashboard for that one important delivery.

Widgets for your dashboards

  • Parcels: the list with status and progress, tap for the latest scans and buttons, and a field to paste a number or a link.
  • Next delivery: what comes next and when, highlighted when the courier is on the way.
  • Parcel news: the latest changes in a row.

Timeline notifications for the moments you choose: out for delivery, ready for pickup, delivered, a problem, returned, at customs, a new expected time.

:delivery_truck: Carriers

132 carriers in 42 countries. Most work with just the tracking number. A few need a free key from the carrier’s developer site (marked “key”), which you enter once in the app settings. Carriers marked * offer no tracking data without a login or behind bot protection: the app keeps those parcels with a link to the carrier’s page and a button to mark them as received.

For everything else: with your own key for a tracking service in the app settings, the app asks that service for parcels it cannot reach itself. Ship24 is the easiest: a normal account, and the free plan covers about 10 parcels a month. 17TRACK also works, but it now asks for a developer account and only gives a small free quota for testing. The app only asks the service where needed (a link-only carrier, a carrier that keeps refusing, or a number still unknown after three days), so the free quota lasts.

Your carrier missing, or a parcel that shows something strange? Post the carrier and the country here, and if you can, a tracking number you don’t mind sharing.

:gear: Settings

  • your country and postcode (used for carriers that ask for the postcode of the delivery address)
  • quiet hours: no checks at night
  • how often to check, and when delivered and unknown parcels are cleared
  • which notifications you want
  • the keys for the carriers that need one, and the fallback service

:locked: Privacy

Tracking numbers, names you give parcels and the carriers’ answers are stored on your Homey only. The app asks each carrier directly, the way their own tracking page does. The share address works on your home network and is protected with a key you can renew at any moment.

Feedback, questions and carrier requests are welcome in this topic.

Is there any chance that Aftership might get supported at some time in the future?

AfterShip only opens its tracking API on a paid plan. The free plan has no API key, so I can’t build it in for everyone without asking people to pay for a subscription.

The app does the same thing with a free key from 17TRACK or Ship24 (app settings, tab Settings, under the fallback service). It then asks that service for parcels it can’t reach itself.

Is there a carrier you use AfterShip for that’s missing from the list? Or do you mean importing the parcels that are already in your AfterShip account? Let me know, then I’ll see what’s possible.

I clicked the “Get API Key” link in the app settings and created an account on 17Track, but when I clicked the option to get an API key it wanted payment and a developer account with company web site etc that I don’t have. At which point I left their web site.

Sorry, my answer made it sound easier than it is. 17TRACK has changed its API sign-up: it now asks for a developer account, and the free part is only a small quota for testing. That’s not a fair thing to ask of anyone.

Ship24 is the easier one: a normal account, no company needed, and the free plan covers about 10 parcels a month. That’s enough for the fallback, because the app only uses it for the few carriers it can’t reach itself.

For most carriers you don’t need any key. If you tell me which carrier your parcels usually come with, I’ll check whether it’s in the app already, or whether I can add it without a key.

I’ll also change the settings text in the next version so it says this plainly and puts Ship24 first.

The settings text is changed now. Version 1.0.1 puts Ship24 first in the key list, and the explanation says plainly what each service asks: Ship24 works with a normal account and about 10 free parcels a month, 17TRACK wants a developer account and only gives a small test quota. I’ve corrected the same sentence in the first post of this topic.

1.0.1 is on the test version now (Parcel Tracker | Homey) and goes to the App Store once Athom has reviewed it.

If you want to try it today: create a free account at Ship24, copy the key from their dashboard (Integrations, API keys), paste it in the app settings and choose Ship24 as the fallback service.
