[APP][Pro] DREO (Community): Dreo fans, heaters, air purifiers, humidifiers and air conditioners in Homey

[APP][Pro] DREO (Community): Dreo fans, heaters, air purifiers, humidifiers and air conditioners in Homey

 DREO (Community) puts your Dreo devices in Homey: switch them on and off, pick the mode and speed, set the temperature or humidity, and use all of it in Flows and on your dashboard. It logs in with your Dreo account, the same way the Dreo app on your phone does, and what you change in the Dreo app or on the device shows up in Homey straight away.

Dreo has an official Homey app as well, but it covers four device types and hasn’t been updated in months.

Free, no subscription, no server of my own.

:house: Which devices

Nine device types, each with its own driver:

  • Tower fans (DR-HTF)
  • Air circulators, the TurboPoly fans (DR-HAF, DR-HPF)
  • Ceiling fans, fan and light (DR-HCF)
  • Evaporative coolers and misting fans (DR-HEC)
  • Air purifiers (DR-HAP)
  • Space heaters and wall heaters (DR-HSH, WH)
  • Portable air conditioners (DR-HAC)
  • Humidifiers (DR-HHM)
  • Dehumidifiers (DR-HDH)

That is 69 known models plus newer models in the same series. Every device only gets the controls it actually reports, so a heater without oscillation won’t show an oscillation switch.

A word of honesty: I don’t own a Dreo device. Everything is built from the hass-dreo code and checked against it, and the first user is now running it with ten devices, but many models haven’t been tried yet. If your device shows something that doesn’t match the Dreo app, or a button doesn’t do what it says, post it here with the model number. The model number is on the label of the device and in the device settings in Homey.

:key: Adding a device

  1. In Homey: Devices, +, DREO (Community), and pick the type of device.
  2. Log in with the e-mail address and password of your Dreo account. Leave the region on “Find out by itself” unless you know better.
  3. Pick the devices you want to add.

Devices someone shared with you in the Dreo app show up as well. If your account has a model the app doesn’t know yet, the pairing screen says which one, so you can post it here.

:sparkles: What it does

:bar_chart: On the device

Depending on the model:

  • Fans: power, mode, fan speed, oscillation and oscillation angle. On circulators also how far the head swings left, right, up and down, or its fixed position.
  • Heaters: heat level, target temperature, heating mode (heat, eco, fan only), airflow direction, temperature correction, and whether it is heating right now.
  • Air conditioners: cool, dry, fan, sleep and eco, with target temperature, fan speed and swing.
  • Humidifiers, coolers and dehumidifiers: target humidity, mist level, the humidify switch, an empty tank on humidifiers and a full tank on dehumidifiers.
  • Air purifiers: mode, fan speed, PM2.5 and filter life.
  • Ceiling fans: the main light with brightness and colour temperature, and the ambient light.
  • On most devices: display, panel sound, child lock, open window detection, temperature and humidity.

:high_voltage: Flow cards

357 cards over the nine device types. Every setting gets its own cards, so the list on your device follows what it can do.

Triggers
  • A setting was turned on or off (oscillation, display, child lock, light and so on)
  • Mode, fan speed, heat level or another setting changed, or changed to a value you pick
  • Temperature, humidity, PM2.5 or filter life changed
  • Water tank ran empty / was filled (humidifiers and coolers)
  • Water tank is full / was emptied (dehumidifiers)
  • Started heating / stopped heating
  • Device went offline / came back online
Conditions
  • A setting is on, or a mode is a value you pick
  • Temperature, humidity, PM2.5, filter life or another value is above …
  • Water tank is empty / full
  • Heater is heating
  • Device is online
Actions
  • Set every setting: mode, fan speed, oscillation and its angle, swing limits, heat level, target temperature, target humidity, mist level, light and its brightness, display, sound, child lock
  • Switch off or on after … minutes, with the timer in the device itself, so it also runs when Homey is offline
  • An advanced card that sends any Dreo setting by its key, for things this app has no card for yet. The keys your device uses are in its settings in Homey, under “Dreo values”.

A few things people build with them:

  • :droplet: A notification when the dehumidifier tank is full.
  • :thermometer: Switch the heater on when the room drops below 19 °C, and let its own timer switch it off after two hours.
  • :leaf_fluttering_in_wind: Put the purifier on turbo when PM2.5 goes up, and on sleep at night.
  • :sun: Start the circulator when it gets warm, with the swing kept to the side of the sofa.

:desktop_computer: Dashboard widgets

  • Dreo device: one device with all its controls
  • All Dreo devices: all your Dreo devices in a list, with a power button each

:electric_plug: Energy

Each device type has an estimated power use for Homey Energy, which you can change per device.

:locked: Privacy

Homey stores an MD5 hash of your Dreo password, because the Dreo cloud asks for a new login now and then. Dreo accepts that hash as the password, so treat your Homey as you would treat your phone. The app talks only to the Dreo cloud: no server of my own, no analytics.

This app is not made by Dreo. It uses the same cloud service as the Dreo app without an official interface, so Dreo can change it at any time.

:memo: Changelog

1.1.1 (test version)

  • The DREO logo as the app icon.

1.1.0

  • Air circulators: set how far the head swings, left, right, up and down. Thanks to Drako74.
  • Dehumidifier: clear cards for a full water tank (“Water tank is full”, “Water tank was emptied”). Flows that used the old water tank cards of a dehumidifier need the new card.
  • New icons that look like the devices.
  • The Dreo values in the device settings now stay up to date.
Earlier versions

1.0.0

  • First version: nine device types, Flow cards for every setting and two dashboard widgets.

Something not right? Post it here with the model number of your device. The device settings show the values your device last reported under “Dreo values”, and those help a lot. :slightly_smiling_face:

OMG! This is awesome news. The official app has been a total bust, it doesn’t support any of their prior existing products, only 3 or 4 released around the same time as the app 5-6 months ago. And every time I’ve asked Dreo support, nothing but static in response.

Thank you so much for developing this app!

Glad it’s useful. You’re exactly the person I was hoping would show up: as I wrote above, I don’t own a Dreo device, so everything is built from the hass-dreo code and hasn’t touched real hardware yet.

If you have time, could you install the test version (DREO (Community) | Homey) and add a few of your devices? What helps most:

  • which models you have, and whether each one shows up when pairing
  • anything that’s missing, wrong, or works differently than in the Dreo app
  • for a device that misbehaves: the values under the device settings in Homey, copied in here

No rush, one device at a time is fine.

Sorry, I had to laugh… I have already installed it, added all 10 of my Dreo devices, and amended all my Flows to use this app. I’ve already disabled the old community test app by Lee, that sort of worked for most but not all of my devices. And deleted the Home Assistant imported devices that proved to be not a 100% reliable connection from Homey and lacked a lot of functions.

Initial observations:

The app logo, and the device card icons could possibly do with some work. The photos used for the app show Dreo products, but the icons look nothing like.

The WHEN cards for the dehumidifier to alert to the water tank being full or not are very confusing, and I have no idea until it fills up if I have the correct card or not.

The fan THEN cards lack the setting for oscillation angle, either horizontal or vertical. You can turn oscillation on and off, but not change the sweep angle. It does have a generic function card at the bottom of the list, but the Help tooltip says to look at the Diagnostic Report for the correct key values for the function… except not being an app developer, don’t have any access to those (a gripe of mine about Homey, that you can’t see any logging at all, so you can’t even try to resolve issues yourself first).

I’ll be using it day to day, so if I find anything else I’ll let you know.

Thank you again good sir  for creating this app. Do you mind if I link this thread on the main Dreo thread on this forum? I know there are other users out there who would love to try this (especially given the lack of support from Dreo themselves… I’ve been waiting literally all year to be able to use my Dreo devices with Homey).

Ha, you were way ahead of me. Thanks for testing this quickly, it’s exactly what I needed.

Version 1.1.0 is on the test link now, with your three points:

  • Oscillation angle on the circulators. Depending on the model you get four sliders for how far the head swings left, right, up and down (the sweep area in the Dreo app), or one angle per direction on older firmware. They show up on the device and as THEN cards. I couldn’t try this on a real fan, so tell me if a value doesn’t match what the Dreo app shows.
  • Dehumidifier water tank. It now has its own “Water tank full” value, with cards that say “Water tank is full” and “Water tank was emptied”. The old cards were wrong for a dehumidifier. If you already put one of them in a Flow, swap it for the new one after updating.
  • Icons. Redrawn after the actual devices: a round head on a stand for the circulators, a cylinder for the purifiers, and so on.

About the key card: you’re right, pointing to the diagnostics report was no help. You don’t need it. Open the device in Homey, go to its settings, and under “Dreo values” you see every key and value the device reports. Since 1.1.0 that list keeps up while the device runs, so you can change something in the Dreo app and see which key moves.

And yes, please link it in the Dreo thread. The more models get tested, the better.
