Zigbee issue with Homey Pro 2026 migrated from Homey Pro (Early 2023) using USB Restore

I also did the restore on my modded HP2023 and found exactly the same issues as those restoring to the HP2026. I also tried adding the exact same zigbee devices to the exact same modded HP2023 after a factory reset instead of after a restored backup and it worked fine. Which is what made me think it’s to do with the backup restoration process.

I cannot find at the moment

Then I am confused. I never read issues in the modding thread. Everybody restored succesfully.

I think a lot of people in the forum asked Athom to not use the same Zigbee/Thread radio in future models, going back 2+ years

They didn’t listen

You reap what you sow

You and me both. This does make me think, though… One obvious difference between what I did and what I suspect most people on the modding thread did is that I modded a 2nd HP2023 rather than my primary one and then tried to restore the backup from my primary HP2023 to the new modded one. Which should of course work but perhaps the bug is specific to situations where the backup is restored to a (Homey device with a) different Zigbee chip.

Given the number of critical Zigbee devices I have, I’m not about to do the experiment of trying to to restore my current HP2023 from backup to test this theory but it might be a clue for Athom (who have been pointed to this thread in various support tickets).

But you restored a backup from an HP2023 to another HP2023?

Yes. I meant that maybe it’s an issue with restoring to a different specific chip not a different make/model of Zigbee chip. I’m not sure how backup/restore of the Zigbee network works so I’ve no idea whether this theory even makes sense but it would fit the evidence I’ve read so far on this thread.

This is the other thread in the forum that is giving me enough hope to try a Zigbee Network reset: Accidentally reset the ZigBee network - #10 by JeeHaa

Which also seems to confirm that the devices are unpaired but not removed from Homey and can be repaired (via the maintenance menu).

It looks like it’s quite simple, it basically backs up, or restores, a single file containing the network data from this page. It’s a binary file so I don’t know what it contains specifically, but I can find the network information (PAN, etc) in it as well as a list of paired devices (by IEEE address). The only thing I cannot directly find in it is the network key, but that might be encrypted or obfuscated.

I don’t see how/why restoring this file could cause issues, and I suspect that the Zigbee issues you’re seeing are caused by something higher up in the stack.

It certainly makes sense. Migrating to another adapter in the same family usually requires cloning the IEEE address from the old coordinator if you want to migrate without repairing. See e.g.:

It’s possible that the restore from backup fails to properly do this for some reason.

Even if you’re moving to an adapter in the same family the IEEE address needs to be cloned. Homey backups do that already, otherwise you wouldn’t be able to migrate from one HP2023 to another.

Source? So far everything seems to point to the Homey Pro 2026 being the Pro 2023 with a higher-specced CM4?

The only difference is the RAM.

I now read a statement of Athom that the zigbee chip is the same. Only difference is memory.

I have two homeys 2023, one is modded with a new cm module 4 with 8 gb ram. I have tested a full restore with both homey’s, went smoothly. On one not modded homey the zwave network was lost but after a second try it came back. No zigbee issues at all.

Has anyone tried making a backup, resetting Homey to factory settings and then connecting the ‘problematic’ devices? I mean the ‘broken’ backup, so that not everything is lost, you can restore it again. Just to see if that’s a solution?!

Sorry if I overlooked it…

Otherwise, I would volunteer to be a test subject.

Yes. I am trying to migrate from a HP23 to a brand new HP26. Without restoring a backup on the HP26 I can pair Zigbee devices. Just not after restoring a backup. Also if I restore a backup and then factory reset it (deleting the contents of the entire Homey) and setting it up as new I can pair Zigbee devices.

The problems arises after the restore of a backup. On the restored Homey I cannot pair or repair (new) Zigbee devices and part of the existing devices do not connect anymore.

:frowning:

And I had exactly the same experience as @SunBeech except when migrating from an unmodded HP2023 to a modded one. Just @Jan_Albert seems to have been lucky so far to do that without zigbee issues after restoring from backup.

I also had the exact same issue …

For a part of the Zigbee devces. Not all.

  • IKEA Valhorn motion.

I couldn’t repair or add them again. (Tested a couple)

I did a rollback. And just repaired that devices.
