Upgraded Homey Pro 2019 to 2023 - unreliable, crashing, unhappy

I recently switched to a new Homey Pro 2023 after kinda happily running a Homey Pro 2019 for several years. I mainly upgraded because I wanted to be more future proof. However, I find the new Homey Pro to be very unreliable and was wondering if maybe I did sth wrong during the upgrade.

I followed the support article that mentioned I could setup the new Homey using a backup from the old one. I had to manually install all the apps, because none of them downloaded automatically. I also couldn’t get the repair Zigbee function to work and had to manually readd all my Zigbee Devices. However, some devices (such as the Smpl Mini Display) could not be added at all. I tried different rooms, I even repositioned the Homey Pro itself. Nothing has helped.

Moreover, I am struggling with frequent crashes of the Homey Pro. Sometimes it just says “not connected” and then after some 10 minutes or so it reconnects. I am on a wifi setup, which was working totally fine with the older Homey. The device is actually pretty close to a Unifi AP so this shouldn’t be a problem. I also switched the power brick of the Homey Pro as I read the one that comes in the box might not be strong enough. That seemed to help a bit but I fell like it still crashes like once a day or so.

Lastly, I have some of my devices added to HomeKit using the HomeKittey App but that seems to be pretty unreliable as well. I very often open the Apple Home App and it doesn’t see the devices I added via the Homey. If I restart the App or the Homey it then starts working again.

To be honest, the way it is right now I am super unhappy with my Homey setup. Is there anything I am doing wrong? Or do you guys have any tipps that could help me? Thanks!

I can’t comment on an upgrade restoring the backup from 2019 model. Not sure if that could cause issues or not but mine is stable with the original power supply on Wifi. For couple of days, I had issue, and I unplugged it from power for more than 15 minutes and repluged it and I have no disconnection anymore.

As far as I know, only the first couple of batches of Homey 2023 had a bad power supply so if this is a brand new one it should not be an issue. I’m using the power adapter that was provided by Homey without problem.

Since Zigbee network can interfere with Wifi, I would try not to put them too close to each other.
I would also manually set the channels for all the different Zigbee and Wifi networks, so they don’t interfere with each other. Did you add Zigbee routers first?

I would post this under the respective thread: [App][Pro] HomeKitty :smile_cat: (aka HomeyKit 3.0) - Apps - Homey Community Forum

Well, he can, but I’m just going to say that given all the other instability issues, the problem is with Homey, not with HomeKitty :man_shrugging:t3:

Yes, I should have mentioned that, I thought about it and forgot it when typing :man_facepalming:

To me it sounds like you received a monday morning unit, I’d contact homey.app/support right away.

Apps just should get installed, and zigbee (but not “smpl” products) should be repairable per menu options.

One hint about bad behaving Pro 23’s: perform a full factory reset and start over.

The power supply should be a 5.2Volt version, when you use it along with the ethernet dongle.
I can’t imagine they still ship 5.0Volt versions though.

This device has/had known issues with Pro 2023 in particular…

It’s also a discontinued product, so minimal chances for a fix.
A possible workaround:

Thank you all for your support. I’ve tried a few things and tested everything intensely for the last two weeks and it seems to be working as it should right now.

Firstly, I updated all my Unifi APs, uninstalled all unused Apps on the Homey and repaired all non-working Zigbee devices that were still left from the migration. That seemed to do the trick mostly. I was left with a stable Homey Pro which ran without a problem for a week. Then during the night, I lost connection again and the HP tried to reconnect a few times. This was going on for a few hours. After I woke up, I unplugged the HP and plugged it back in. That helped as it was running stable again.

But secondly I also bought an ethernet adaptor and haven’t had any issues since I installed it. The system seems to be running stable now and I’ve even switched back to the included power supply. Also HomeKitty is working without a major problem.

The only thing I do notice, is that sometimes some Ikea bulbs turn on or off significantly later than any other (mostly Hue) bulbs I have. However, eventually they will work, but they need some time.

The mini display however, is not working at all. I’ve tried almost everything (except for a firmware update which I can’t do due to a lack of a Windows PC) but I can’t get it to work. But I am going to replace it with an iPad running a dashboard instead which is a far better solution anyways.

So thanks again for your help.
