Philips Hue Dynamic Scenes?

Hey whats up guys,

New here and this post will ultimately determine whether or not i invest in the homey pro!

So right now my smart home mostly consists of Aqara (M3 Pro, multiple light switches, Mini Buttons, Door Sensors, and Hygrometers) and Philips Hue (Smart plugs both 1st party and INNR, and a bunch of bulbs and Strips).

I also have Alexa set up which helps me with my Smart heaters which i am unable to connect to Aqara and flic buttons which i am trying to decommission.

Heres my issue and my dream use case:

Right now in my studio, I have an Aqara H1 Double rocker Light switch. One rocker controls the actual power of my rooms light, and the other switch is rocker is the one that powers my studio up; Turns on the multiple hue bulbs and strips i have, turns on my speakers via the smart plugs etc. The problem is, Aqara couldnt turn my bulbs on and activate the dynamic scene, only Alexa could do that and none of my light switches or mini buttons from Aqara can be used as triggers in Alexa Routines.

So i ended up having to use IFTTT and Monkey (a virtual button) to do that. Works fine, problem is, i can only make 2 applets, and i did the same thing in my bedroom, but it means i cant do this again anywhere else in the house.

The obvious work around for this would be to buy the pro subscription for IFTTT as i know its only like £2 a month, and in order for me to get to the £400 price point of the Homey Pro, id have to go 200 months lol. But its not a great answer because i also want to be able to do all of this locally, and there has been a couple times its not worked because IFTTT wasnt working properly.

I probably didnt need to say all of the above to ask this question, but does Homey Pro allow for me to use all the same (if not better) automations my Aqara m3 does AND allow me to trigger Philips Hue Dynamic Scenes?

I thought i would be as in depth as i could when asking this so you guys know exactly where I am coming from, and perhaps would suggest another method. I think it goes without saying and i don’t think any of yall would suggest it anyways, that i am not interested in Home Assistant and already know that that would solve the problem, but after a lot of research, Home Assistant just isnt for me.

Look forward to hearing from you all and thanks in advance!

Suspect that what I think you are after is possible with Homey. Changing between Hue Scenes at intervals based on countdown timers or phases of the Sun with apps like the excellent Sun Events App for Homey | Homey is possible

I don’t think thats what i would want to do - Are you familiar with the hue app?

So when you choose a scene, you can make it dynamic and what happens is all the bulbs slowly go through the colours. With Alexa Routines when you turn on a philips bulb, you can choose mode and press dynamic on or off. In Aqara its just Bulb on or off. The same is said for Homekit. So im wondering if Homey pro allows for the ability to use the dynamic scenes.

You can use the hue effect function of candles, fire, prism and stuff.
But thats probably not what you want.

You can make your own flows though and have some gradient effects on lights. But you have to make them, you can’t trigger dynamic scenes from hue app directly as far as I know.

Im guessing by the picture above that you have both homey pro AND philips hue bulbs. Are you able to make a scene on the philips hue app, (even if you just choose the Twilight one) make it auto dynamic on the app, and then see what happens when you trigger that scene via homey? IF you could do that for me that would be AMAZING.

Yes

Im not sure what you mean with auto dynamic. You can trigger a scene from the hue app. But they are just static? Cant remember I ever made dynamic scenes in hue app, but I hardly use the app since I have Homey.

Or you mean dynamic on time based?

You see how this scene has a stop sign on it. It shows that the dynamic is currently ON, and I set it so it’s always on whenever I press that scene the dynamic option is ON.

Are you able to check if you can do the same thing I did. But when you trigger on on the homey app it stays on dynamic?

I took a rondom scene (Zandvoort). If I play the scene using a flow, it runs dynamic and starts automatically.

You can’t see in the Hue app it is running tho.

So to clarify, it runs with the square in the scene?

If so AMAZING!

So, I’ve never tried dynamic hue scenes before…no idea why as they’re pretty neat. Have just set a very simple one. In phone Hue app Hocus Pocus with 10 spots and set to auto start in Hue app. In Homey a flow with

So, via Homey flow I started a dynamic Hue scene and am now sitting in my living room with colours changing overhead

Amazing!!!

Thank you so much for trying this out and also I’m happy I’ve introduced you to dynamic scenes!!

I’ve ordered my homey pro. Will be arriving tomorrow, gonna be a very very long day re setting everything back up but hopefully everything works fine.

Good luck :+1:

The Hue app on your phone and Homey can work besides eachother. So start easy with flows and get bigger and crazier everytime.

If you use hue I would not buy a homey. The installation is very simple. However, the connection is not continuous and therefore unreliable. After each update you will have to start the hue app manually. And of course this always happens in a very inconvenient time.
So, if you don’t mind that, then homey is a good choice. If you want a reliable system (for example safety) it is not a good choice.

I dont recognize this.

My Homeyn with Hue is pretty stable. Even running with +40 lamps and +15 accessoires on 2 bridges.

Never had a restart after updating.

Nope, that is not the reality experience experienced by most
