I was wondering whether any of you have any experience with the app for the motors of the company motionblinds.
(this one: Motionblinds App voor Homey | Homey).
Is it reliable? And does it have the same sort of functionality that the Somfy app has?
The reason why I’m asking is because I originally had the intention of going with a wired Somfy RTS blind, though the setup I have in mind for that may not work as expected.
The alternative would be a battery powered setup and since the Somfy zigbee motors aren’t supported in Homey and the Somfy RTS battery powered blinds cannot communicate their battery status to Homey, I thought I’d look into the company motionblinds instead which (should) work over thread (or at least the one I am interested in does). The Homey Motionblinds app is community developed however and I was wondering how reliable it is because of that reason, hence my question.
Hello Roel,
Hmmmm, where did you hear that?
Just FYI: Somfy zigbee can be used with Homey, but,
just like Somfy io, you’ll need an additional hub.
One specific hub in case of zigbee:
(Adrian is the Somfy (Tahoma & Connexoon) guru and dev)
Ok, yes, I suppose I should have mentioned that: I know that the zigbee motors can be used with the Tahoma box, only I do not whish to acquire one.
I’d like to limit the amount of ‘smart boxes’ present in my home.
I’m already going to have 2, Homey itself off course and the Philips hue bridge, which I tolerate because it allows me to link up with smart lights in homey that are compatible with it (and not with Homey directly, at least not in the same way) and it actually provides additional functionality that I value outside of Homey itself.
Tahoma is in essence a competitor to Homey and to me it doesn’t make any sense to buy two products that overlap so much in functionality just to make one work with devices from the other (mainly also because the concept of homey itself is to serve as a ‘unifying’ hub. One of the things that most appeals to me about it).
ps: the thread you are refering to in your comment is the one I started.
