Hi! I’m new to Homey and have been spending a lot of time with it lately. So far, totally loving it. I don’t have a ton of experience on any development end. But I’ve been using homebridge for a year or so.
Currently, I’m using Homebridge to integrate two major sets of devices into Apple Home, which aren’t compatible with Homey:
GE Cync lights and switches (fully functional, on/off, dim, color spectrum, temperature, etc)
Hatch Rest (a nursery speaker- just on/off capability)
I say “major” because I use them all in several scenes and automations in Apple Home. I want to move all my automations to Homey, but I can’t because of these devices.
Here’s what I’ve tried:
HomeKit Controller- surprisingly, homey CAN see the child bridges that Homebridge created and I can add them to Homey. However the child devices do not come with it, totally defeating the purpose. So that’s a non starter.
Virtual devices: I’ve created a virtual switch for the Hatch (on/off), which I could get fully functional essentially in Apple home with between 2 and 4 automations, not totally sure yet. Basically to achieve sync in both directions. Don’t love this solution cause it’s extremely messy. Especially when…
Trying this same solution with all the light functions is very overwhelming. And I couldn’t possibly cover all versions of how I’d want to use these lights- in terms of dim level, color temp, or RGB colors.
And on top of all that, I can’t even find the right virtual device in Homey that matches the one in Apple Home for the Hatch Rest to be able to group them, to maybe reduce the number of automations. So this one… isn’t “out”, it’s just not awesome.
My only third options is to just leave some scenes and automations in Apple home, since they’re working fine. But I’d really hate to split functionality like that.
Am I missing something, is there something more advanced I could be doing and just don’t know of yet?
Any help here would be greatly appreciated. It’s a shame there isn’t a homebridge and homey integration. So homebridge devices can be exposed to homey. Thank you in advance!
