Ikea Bilresa scroll wheel on Matter

Connecting the New Ikea button directly to HA and Homey give different results, which is super weird being it a Matter device. (I dont have the Ikea Hub) In HA i can only set the button press (9 total) and in Homey I can only set up the movement of the scroll wheel (up or down).

The scroll wheel is pretty unusable as it is very slippery, no idea if it is actually moving or not. The button press in HA is also not consistent, sometimes it works, sometimes not.

The idea is great but its poorly executed. Not recommended :-1:

The scroll wheel is indeed a bit weird, however you can set it to higher or lower the brightness of a lamp for example. You can set it if you scroll it once but also if you scroll it more times. So it is quite multifunctional and new, maybe we just dont know how to use it in a good way ;). I also have the Timmerflotte temp/hum sensor which looks ok to me, I am waiting for the power plug. Ikea Netherlands is getting then in the shops these days, several sensors already available.

Well, gues what happened today
The Ikea app was updated and now it works pretty well.. yay

You said it’s working well right now. So, do you recommend it? I’m thinking of converting the Zigbee devices in my house to these Ikea Matter devices soon.

The scroll wheel is also mapped to button presses in Homey, it’s simply how IKEA exposed it. In their own app it has a custom interface and mapping. In Homey the button presses are available through Flow as triggers

Thats what makes the difference, when connecting it using the Ikea app and selecting the device it works very well.

Still not very happy about the scroll wheel but that depends on how you use it. Holding it in your hand and the feedback of the wheel is good, when its just on a table or something it is very slippery and not working so great.

tldr: i’m getting more of them

Hmm, the deivce seemed not to work anymore so I tried to reconnect and now it was recognized as the Bilresa scroll wheel with the right icon, before it had an other name and icon. If it will stop working again I will return it to the shop.

The Ikea app was just updated yesterday, the new devices are now supported through the app.. makes it work much better than just adding it as a standard matter device

Would have be nice if the When card ‘BUTTON was pressed’ would expose a tag with number of times it has been pressed. Would be easier to make flows.

Is it even possible to modify the flowcards for matter capabilities. According the Sdk documentation, Homey ignores the capabilities defined in the driver and uses the capabilities supported by the clusters that the device supports.

My experience with the BILRESA (the on/off button), is that it kills my Homey Pro 2023. It’s hard to add, just hanging and after a while Homey is rebooting.

Other devices as TIMMERFLOTE is working just nice.

Get to this part, and boom !

I don’t think that’s a metric that the device sends, it just sends one event per press.

It has a WHEN-card for “BUTTON is pressed N times” where N is between 1 and 18. It looks like the number of clicks represent the number of steps one has scrolled past if done in one swipe. I’m not sure if these are 18 different events, but it would be nice to not having to create 18 flows for each button

I was not abel to connect mine through matter directly to homey. Any suggestions what to do?

I have the same problem. Even if I connect it through the IKEA App

What a vague button! I can select one of the 3 ‘channels’ and use short press and long press, but how does it see the rotation? And how to dim a lamp using the wheel?

On the positive side: It’s way faster than the Zigbee buttons from Ikea. My Christmastree lights up instantly when pressing this cute 3-led button.

On Homey, perhaps. The Zigbee buttons are not “slow” in any sense of the word on platforms that have better Zigbee support.

Change the record Robert, you’ve added nothing constructive here

Homey users now have the option to move to other Zigbee platforms, don’t they?

It is true though. I have some IKEA SOMRIG remotes and initially (when I was just using Homey Pro), I thought that they have bad latency. However, it turns out that Homey just does not expose the initial press event, only single press, double press, and long press. The latter three events introduce latency because the SOMRIG button has to wait until e.g. single press is disambiguated (the single press could be repeated for a double press).

Zigbee2MQTT also exposes initial press events for the buttons and if you use these events, the button is instant, no latency. So @Lacobo is mistaken, the Zigbee buttons do not have any latency, the issue is with how the Homey IKEA app exposes the device.

As @robertklep says, this also helps Homey Pro/SHS users. Just set up Zigbee2MQTT and use the excellent Zigbee2MQTT app and you get a lot more options in Homey workflows (+ typically earlier Zigbee device support). With SHS, you could even run Z2M on the same device.
