Hostname/IP doesn't match certificate-error, no idea what's causing it

Hi, there!

Been an avid user of Tado and Homey in combination and it has worked as charm but now I can’t reach my Tado on three different occasions:

  1. I can’t reach the Tado devices using Wi-Fi on my phone when I use Homey but I’m able to reach it/change e.g degrees using cellular - it’s frustrating.

  2. I can’t control my Tado thermostats through Homey as it gives me an error reading: “Hostname/IP does not match certificate’s altnames: Host: my.tado.com is not in the cert’s altnames: DNS.*.receipt-bank.com, DNS:receipt-bank.com”

I’m confused by the DNS namespace, as that’s an unknown DNS for me.

  1. I can’t add any Tado thermostats/devices through Homey as it gives me an similar error reading: “Hostname/IP does not match certificate’s altnames: Host: my.tado.com is not in the cert’s altnames: DNSprometheus.staging.breedr.tech” (something, looks to cut the string)

Again, I don’t understand that DNS or wording, and I haven’t seen any other similar topics on the whole DNS thing. I’ve asked on the Tado community too without luck.

Any idea on these?

This seems like a local issue. Can you open the website https://my.tado.com in a regular web browser?

Thanks for getting back to me.

Currently on my phone so accessing that URL opens the Tado native app. Forcing it by copy pasting into Chrome on my phone takes me to the Tado webpage for logging in(to my “home” with all my Tado devices).

Doing both seems OK as they navigate fine without errors or strange URLs.

I assume your phone is on the same (wireless) network as your Homey is when you’re trying the page in Chrome?

Can you post a screenshot with one of the errors? It’s really very strange.

Yes and no: I had issues with my Homey disconnecting at random times, forcing me to turn it on/off. A post I read suggested you had Homey connect to it’s own network so I created a separate network just for Homey - with its unique SSID (EDIT: I originally said I had Homey cabled, that was incorrect as that was my Tado bridge that was cabled to my Asus repeater) but kept credential the same just in case. No other device is connected to that network, including my phone which is connected to the default network - all devices (except Homey) is connected to this default one.

Once I did, my Homey never once experienced similar network errors that forced me to turn it on/off and it has run perfectly fine since then. That includes every app such as Tado, up until recently with my current issues only with said Tado.

I toggled my router to “give access to Intranet” so that any devices connected (through my now two unique networks) could interact. My router is still the one handling out IPs.

Picture of my errors, and I can only post once because I’m a new user - right after I change the degrees:

For some reason, Homey is getting an incorrect IP address back when it resolves the hostname my.tado.com. I don’t know why this is, but like I said, this seems like a local issue.

You can try submitting a support request with Athom, who made the app, but I think they’ll say the same thing.

Connect a computer to this Homey network an do a DNS lookup for my.tado.com.

Hi, again!

Thanks for the suggestions.

I saw that my router had a firmware update some time ago, and it looked like the DNS was changed alongside the toggle for accessing the Intranet was turned off.

Now I can access everything, including Tado, so guess it somehow resolved itself (?)

I’ll keep track in case it comes back but thanks a lot for help so far!
