I am having the exact same issue. The homey is having this issue really often. Having to restart it manually. It is really a pain.
Offline again and again.
Homey Pro (Early 2023) Version 13.3.0
On Wifi.
wifi is 50 cm next to Netgear router
Maybe both are too close to each other, causing interference. Are you able to move one of them further away and check if that has any effect?
If it’s that close, I’d consider connecting it over an ethernet connection.
Some good old networking advice:
If it ain’t moving, use a cable!
I understand. My suggestion was something relatively easy to try, and sometimes something changes in your surroundings (you might be unaware of) though the location of the two devices itself did not change.
I have the same problem. Every day i get messages that my homey is offline.
Well, that does cost another €30 while the WiFi connection should just work (in my case, Homey and my many other hubs/bridges are also within 50cm of the WiFi AP without any issues). Also Ethernet is only for the newer Homey Pro’s, so I’ve never tried that myself since I use a Pro 2019.
Any changes in you WiFi network? Automatic channel change by your router?
And you don’t have to act on or try the suggestions… Maybe it will go away spontaneously…
For my old homey, early 2019, I have a similar issue. It used to be stable, but increasing the nr of devices, apps and flows during the years, has made it unstable. Weekly I need to completely reboot it, as if it were a new one, and recover from backup. It has 1GB Ram, of which 863MB is used. From the 1,6GB storage is has only used 323MB.
The first signs are the message on my phone that the homey connection has dropped, then I already know that the white ball has stalled, and need to turn it upside down, etc.
The memory usage stays the same, so no visible memory leak or something.
To get a more reliable setup, I am planning to move device part, zigbee and zwave to HA +MQTT in Docker on a small linux box, and use the Homey just for flows and use the devices through MQTT. This way it is more scalable, and if one of the Homey or HA controllers fail beyond repair, recovery is easy. Also this way I can use multiple network based antenna sticks, for places that have coverage problems. Nice job for the xmas holiday, hope my homey will last until then.
I used to be a fan of an all-in-one solution, but it has its downside when this all in one is not military grade equipment.
Don’t have your Homey near a microwave oven. I have a Google Nest Hub near av microwave oven and it losses WiFi connection every time the microwave oven starts.
Had the same problem in the beginning. Turns out, it matters which side you connect to your homey and which side to the power outlet. The long wire needs to connect to your homey pro.
Once I did then, never had a problem again.
Hope this helps!
t sounds to me Athom doesn’t know how to fix their own product.
I used to have disconnection issue, but to knock on wood, it’s been stable for a while now, and my Homey literally sits next to mesh AP. So that “roaming between” sounds more like an excuse. And even if it’s true, other devices don’t have this issue, and since Athom is apparently familiar with this issue, why aren’t they fixing it?
This is way too expensive device for users to be like “oh it has issues out of the box, so to resolve it I need to buy an additional dongle/cable for it”!
I was getting so annoyed by Homey, support for devices and apps that I started using HA in addition.
Off topic, but now I experiencing individual devices just becoming unavailable. I have SwitchBot candle warmer, which is technically just a lamp, and after a day of adding it to Homey it becomes disconnected. Every single time I add it. It only happens in Homey, it stays connected in my Apple Home.
In my opinion, Homey is still beta testing the product. It’s too unstable to be out of the box solution. And yes, random Homey disconnections are a real thing.
Same thing, I often receive notifications from the Switchbot mobile app that my Hub Mini is offline. Often, it does restore by itself though, but sometimes I need to restart the sensors by pulling the batteries out.
But WiFi should still work, right? AFAIK the newer Homeys can be connected to both WiFi and Ethernet at the same time. Not sure though, since I only have a Pro 2019 which only has WiFi.
Yes and no.
Yes, it’s still connected through WiFi and I can ping it on its WiFi IP address, but the CLI is telling me my Homey is offline because this whole discovery mechanism is broken, and has been for a long time ![]()
Replugging the Ethernet cable into the dongle doesn’t fix the issue, a PtP on Homey itself doesn’t fix the issue, I have to unplug the Ethernet dongle (which is located somewhere under my desk, very convenient…) before Ethernet works again.
This is interesting: when you pull the plug from Homey (hence removing power from both the Ethernet adapter and Homey) would that not have the same effect as unplugging the Ethernet dongle? The latter also removes power from Homey (as it is powered through the adapter).
In both cases I would expect that Homey needs to reinitialize the Ethernet connection when powering on. Or is the adapter somehow remembering its state c.q. is Homey checking whether a physical connector was plugged in and only then triggers a reinitialization?
When I pull the plug just from Homey, the dongle keeps being energized (the dongle provides a power pass-through for Homey). Because it only seems to be working again when I take the dongle off power too, it suggests that there might be an issue with the dongle, but this still doesn’t explain why the CLI does not switch over to using the WiFi connection.
Yes that is indeed strange.
In my setup on my Homey Pro 2026, but also before on my 2023-model, I also use the Ethernet adapter, but have WiFi disabled on my Homey. So there is not fallback. But the Ethernet connection never failed either.
Not sure whether disabling WiFi on your Homey would have a positive effect on the Ethernet adapter remaining connected. Sounds far fetched anyhow
.
Anyhow, the fallback mechanism is a functionality of Homey, so it should work and a work-around would not be necessary.
