Homey Pro Mini lights only either flashing white or red pulse

I just got my long-awaited Homey Pro Mini this week. After plugging it in and connecting to the internet, the device only flashes white (for about 30 seconds or so) and pulses red (indefinitely). When I tried all the options in the USB.homey.app, the device pulsed yellow, but after 30 seconds, it went back to the indefinite red pulse. I am thinking this is a dud device. Any thoughts or suggestions?

Hi Peter, thanks for the reply. I did try the 30-second reset trick. The device flashes white for about 1 minute, then it goes straight into pulsing red. It does not blink red eight times and it has never done breathing blue.

Try to flash te latest Firmware with USB from Mac or PC.

When I attempt to perform any task on the https://usb.homey.app page the same thing happens. I did install the drivers for Windows. I do hear the ā€œdevice recognitionā€ chime on my laptop, and the Updating Firmware screen appears. After about a minute, the yellow flashing light is replaced by a red pulsing light. It then stays red, pulsing indefinitely. The same thing happens if I select backup, restore or factory settings (flashing yellow, followed by pulsing red)

ā€œPulsing redā€: you mean ā€œblinkingā€ or ā€œbreathingā€?

Make sure all laptop firewall and protection software is temporary disabled.

If that doesn’t make a difference: keep them disabled and,
not what you want to hear right now, but:
try again, but first replace the USB cable with the best quality USB data cable you might have laying around.
This ā€˜trick’ often worked with Pro 23 models.

by pulsing I mean a 2.5 second cycle slow ramp up, slow ramp down. I just tried with two other USB cables and had the same result. When updating the firmware it does connect to the laptop as told by the Windows device noise and the usb.homey.app askes me what I would like to do. I select any option and it goes from blinking yellow to ā€œbreathingā€ red after about 30 seconds. Once it is breathing red, it does not restart. It will stay breathing until it is unplugged. When updating the firmware, the screen Says Updating Firmware… and it goes all the way to the end, but it never ends.

Replace the power block? 5.2VDC / 2A minimum should do.

@Doekse Abe, any hints on how to start a new Homeyni? Or is this unit DOA?

used 3A power block with various cables. No luck. Each combination went from flashing white light to breathing red without ever going blue. When firmware upgrade or factor restore were attempted the light went from flashing yellow to breathing read around 20% into the process.

Any luck getting it to work?
I was considering the mini and came here to see if anyone had received theirs yet. This was the only post I saw so not one that fills me with confidence to pick one up.

No, I haven’t had any luck yet. I fear this one was DOA as it never displayed anything but a flashing white light or a breathing red light.

When attempting to upgrade the firmware, I get the following message just as the light begins to breath red.

usb.homey.app says
Error Installing Firmware: http transferOut error: Failed to execute ā€˜transferOut’ on ā€˜USBDevice’. A transfer error has occured.

@ChefsSlaad Marc, can you determine if this new Homey mini is DOA?
I’m out of ideas here.
Thx in advance,
Peet

Thanks for the troubleshooting @Peter_Kawa, @Player2, @Dijker. You Rock!

It looks like this might be a DoA as Peter concluded. @AZippy if you contact support, we will arrange a swap for you.

I hear you, but I think you should keep in mind almost no one posts a message when all went just fine

Unfortunately we (forum members) can’t see how many Homey mini’s are cool, and up & running; only Athom can tell you.

That is a very fair point.
If it makes us feel better I am leaning the Pro now, just still running down a few questions.

I reached out to support and they shipped me a replacement unit quickly without any issue free of charge. Thank you Homey team, and thank you all for assisting. The new unit works as it should, without issue.
