Homey Keeps restarting

Hi, today my homey pro keeps restarting, it boots (white ring), stays active for a minute or two (spectrum led) but I can’t connect. Then the ring turns red and again white… If I reset to factory default it works but if I restore one of my backups the problem returns. Any advice?

Replace your power adapter

Done! With the same power adapter it works when factory resetted and then doesn’t work when I restore the backup.

I say this replacement as when factory reset the device is not under load ( no apps etc). Then a restore starts running all apps and cpu is under stress making the adapter quickly not able to keep the voltages above the required level. So hence making sure you got a good power full adapter.

I used a couple of different power adapters: same problem…

Then I am out of options. If even older backup restores doesn’t help and replacing multiple adapters still result in your problem, raise a support ticket with Athom.

[Tip] Problems with Homey?

Model Homey?
Anything else you can share what you have done or is relevant

Hi, Homey 2023. There was a storm today and the power went out, I think the problem arose after that. I resetted to factory settings and it works (if I restore the backup it keeps crashing) but I don’t want to add every light and sensor in my house again…

What version Homey firmware?
Pls use the original 5.2Volt usbc adapter and maybe try another usb-c to usb-c cable.

Most other usb-c adaptes do not privide 5.2 volt but 5.0 volt.
A good usb-a adapter sometimes gives more than 5.0 volt wuth a good usb-a to usb-c cable.

Whay does [APP][Pro] sysInternals - Shows Homey’s System Internals report special the alarms, uptime?

and restart reason here Homey Developer Tools ?

Version 12.5.2. I tried with the original power adapter and other 2 from apple. Homey keeps rebooting so I can’t install any app, I can’t even connect to homey (I think it reboots before connection is possible). I used wifi and ethernet connection.
If I reset to factory default I can install sisInternals app: no alarms, everything’s fine. Also in Developer Tools I see nothing wrong.
It would be great if I can have a Log to see what causes the reboot…

It might help to run the software updater. It should install the firmware from scratch:

btw do you restore cloud backups or offline backups?
The latter restores the backupped problems as well.

Already done!

OK. What about my last question?
And for how long has your Pro been running? (months or years)

Sorry: I restored a cloud backup, first the last one and also an older one: same result.

I am running homey for 7/8 month. 2 month ago I had a similar problem, factory resetted and started from scratch (I had no backup).

Thanks. Cloud backups shouldn’t restore system faults.
If you can manage, without Homey restarting in the meantime, send a diag report to Athom using this page

and create a ticket @ homey.app/support

@Dijker Geurt, does this page below really show the restart reason with a Pro 2023 (it doesn’t for Pro2019)? I believe you, but @Alberto_Paludetti1 didn’t respond to your question (yet)?

It could be eMMC “wear” related, on older firmware they rapidly degraded.
That issue should’ve been fixed with this firmware version, but that’s some while ago:

In Developer Tools now I see “Rebot reason: unexpected” but if I restore the the backup and homey keeps rebooting I cannot access Developer Tools…

Hmm, that’s not very useful info from Homey :man_shrugging:

Makes sense.

I’d contact support asap, and mention you had to factory reset Homey 2 months ago, on their advice.
They can’t let you start from scratch again imho.

Of course the power outage can be a factor here, but I would expect the power unit to suffer from it, not Homey.
But it all starts to sound like a damaged Homey.

You tried an other USB-C cable as well?

Yes, I tried another cable: same problem.
Curious fact: I powered Homey this morning and a push notification on my phone says: “Homey back on line” but it’s still not accessible via app, after few minutes red light and then reboot…
