Flows Disabling

Hello. I’ve installed Homey on my MacMini for testing out prior to considering Homey Pro. My main reason is for Flows and Presence Detection. I would continue using Apple Home for directly turning on lights but wish to use Homey for automations. I have a couple of questions:

  1. I’ve noticed that when I view flows they are often greyed out or disabled until I restart Homey. Is this common with Pro or is the self install prone to this?
  2. How reliable is presence based on an iPhone? Are there better ways for detecting if some is home or away?

Thank you.

Sometimes it happens that the start button is greyed out right after creating your Flow. It should still work with the trigger you defined though.

For me the presence detection is working fine on Android. I don’t have experience with iOS.

The mobile app has a ‘system’ to show the trigger state

A. Start button grayed out > Active, only it’s not manually startable
B. Active, ánd manually startable
C. Start button grayed out, plus icon is “striked through”, plus the flowname is also greyed out > Disabled

It’s different for the web app though, there’s no visual difference for A and B here:

.

It shouldn’t be different after a restart,
BUT it can occur the other way round:
when a flow gets disabled by Homey, it’s because of too many triggers in a certain timeframe OR when over 60 instances of a flow are running (like, trigger it every minute and having a delay of +60 minutes somewhere).
The first issue is reported to the timeline, the second is not (AFAIK).

There’s also a bug in the app where if you create a new Flow, the start button of the new Flow is greyed out (even if the trigger is ‘This Flow has started’). A restart of the app solves this. It’s just a UI bug

Im using my iPhone with the standard home/away function in Homey and it never fails (already for years) – approx a couple of hundred meters is the range

I use a combination of methods, depending on how I want the automation works:

  • Presence detection in Homey and phone
  • The homey app smart presence
  • The android app macrodroid (espially when I go away with my EV car)

It never fails.

Why? Homey is so much better…

I’ll have to test it some more. One of my primary reasons for trying Homey was to presence detection because nothing else on the Mac side seemed to work or was reliable. Are there specific settings on your iPhone that you would recommend other than having Homey on your phone allowing for presence detection when not open/runnning?

For me it’s the layout is so simple. I’m just getting started and haven’t made any custom dashboards. If I switch to Homey Pro I don’t want to spend too much time in the self install and loose everything. Or is there a way to transfer everything from self install to Homey Pro?
