ESPHOME support for Growatt or other Solar inverters

I’m currently using Home Assistant. One of the things I’m doing in HA is controlling the generated power using ESPHome integration.

This works very well but since I’m migrating to Homey Pro, I would like to have the same using a ESPHome app on my new Homey. With the EPSHome apps currently available they are not detecting sensors, switches, sliders, or only partly.

Can someone recommend how I can get an ESPHome app available or how I can configure myself certain apps to support a proper ESPHome functionalities on the Homey like on Home Assistant?

If the ESPHome apps for Homey don’t support your device, it’s going to be a challenge, since you will need a specific Homey app that implements support for the ESPHome native protocol.

You can try to get something working by using MQTT instead of the ESPHome native protocol, but that might not be trivial.

Or check if there’s a specific app for your specific solar inverter that can control it natively (however, given that you’re using ESPHome, I assume that there’s a reason you don’t want to use the cloud-based Growatt integration that Home Assistant offers, and any Growatt app for Homey will probably also only support cloud-based access).

Not sure if ESPhome Controller was one of these apps, if not you should definitely give it a try. The dev is very keen on getting things to work if it’s possible.

I would recommend to keep HA running along with Homey, just because of “if not possible with one, it probably is possible with the other”.

If the ESPhome route turns out to be not possible, have a look here: [APP][Pro] SolarEdge + Growatt TCP modbus

Hi all, many thanks for your feedbacks.

As I’m using already ESPHOME controller interfacing with my Growatt inverter already with on the other side HA to control the Inverter power (updating power ratio percentage) and/or switching the inverter on/off in case the energy market price is not attractive. It would have been nice if I could use the same interfacing and controlling this on the Homey.

I tried what you suggested but I don’t get it working, at least I cannot match the information with the inverter data (registers) or the information is not available, like it is in HA.

Using Growatt TCP Modbus (RS485 to Eth converter) might is a good alternative but I’d like to know first if this Growatt Homey app (or other Homey app) can offer the functionality?
Meaning can I determine which sensors, switches, sliders I can configure in Homey based on which I can create flows and have them incorperated into Homey energy.

Does anyone has thoughts or perhaps has already some experience controlling the Growatt inverters using some Homey app?

Maybe the official Growatt Homey app?

Hi Marcel,

I’d like to suggest to post your questions to the app topic I linked to, the developer will be nudged and is probably happy to help:
