I am trying to set up a flow for motion when walking into the bathroom. I have created one that works well but the issue I keep having is when someone is in the shower the motion sensor doesn’t detect motion hence the lights turning off. Is there a card or setting I can enact to keep the lights from turning off when someone is in the shower and only turning off once they leave the bathroom? for reference I have an Aqara P1 motion sensor set up.
My first guess is that the Aqara P1 motion sensor probably isn’t the right tool for the job without an accompanying humidity sensor or some other secondary sensor too.
I’m sure other people have better ideas, but one possible idea is to leave the lights on for longer than your typical shower before turning off again if no motion is detected.
I would be interested to hear other solutions because this sort of flow is something that I’m also interested in setting up.
It’s a small chance that you have this hardware, but still: I have a Homewizard and heatlink. With this combination I can detect when hot water is running.
So as long as hot water is running don’t deactivate bathroom.
The problem with the Aqara P1 motion sensor is, that PIR sensors are not able to detect movement behind glass. I assume that you have a glass door.
The best solution in my opinion would be to use a presence sensor. However, the problem is that the presence sensors currently supported by Homey have to be operated with power supply.
For example, I have the SONOFF Zigbee Human Presence Sensor (SNZB-06P) installed in our bathroom and the light doesn’t go out, even if I take a shower for 30 minutes. This sensor is supported by the “Official” Sonoff.
You are correct, there is a smoked glass for the door to the shower so that would make sense as to why the PIR sensors wouldn’t detect motion. I suppose the options from what I’ve gathered would be to either use a humidity sensor and set it for when humidity rises then to keep lights on otherwise to get what you recommended with the Sonoff presence sensor. I appreciate all the feedback!
The Aqara FP300 should also be a viable option when it’s available? Battery powered and I’m sure it will work with Homey. I haven’t been able to find any mention of when it will be available to buy, just that it was announced at CES a few months ago.
I set a virtual switch so that the motion works when it is turned on. When off motion doesn’t function.
When I walk into a room, the lights go on. I set a scene with my voice through Alexa, and the scene turns off the motion.
When I leave, I tell Alexa to turn on the motion.
I have a virtual switch in every room.
You can also just voice the motion off
Works well for me.
I also have a motion setting for the lighting, which changes to different levels and colors at other times.
I also have a flow that turns all the motion on at sunrise. Some lights will motion on if it’s a gloomy day.
I was with similar problem. I wanted to make automation for the LED strip in the shower cabin that will turn on when somebody walks in under the shower. I used Aqara FP1E presence sensor and it is directed straight into the cabin. This works as I wanted and it works through the glass wall. But there is one BUT - I didn’t read the manual of it and I placed the sensor at the same hight as the ventilation fan is. Even though it is over 1m from it, when the fan is working, the sensor sees the presence hence I doesn’t turn off the light. my bad, but the sticky pad for the sensor is so strong that I didn’t want to take the sensor off. I have the new Aqara Light Switch H2 and when this situation happens, I turn this LED off using the second button of that switch. For me the most important thing was to turn the LED strip ON, when somebody walks under the shower.
I have a motion sensor also and works perfectly fine for more than 10 years. But when there is someone in the shower it won’t sense movement. Most likely because the glass of the shower is less transparent anyway, and especially when it’s fogged up with condensation.
I use a Fibaro motion sensor near the glass wall of the shower. It detects motion from above. When 2 minutes no motion is detected the light switches off. Works perfect.
