Bathroom motion flow help

I had the same problem, here’s my solution (see photo). If not, you can also put a flood detector in your shower.

I think it should be possible still with one motion sensor. Just point it in a direction where it only detects if you enter or leave the bathroom. As long as u in the bathroom > leave lights on and turn them off when leaving.
Also possible, use a homewizard water sensor. It detects flowing water. Make an logic that says ur in the bathroom (set to 1 when entering) and when water starts to flow when in bathroom is 1, then keep lights on till water flow stops and u leave the bathroom.

When I read all the problems, I just wonder why you don’t use a mart wall switch to signal to Homey you are entering or leaving the bathroom :innocent::wink:
Or even better just use the thumb wall switch of course.

Well… in short: automation

I concur with this - just mount the sensor straddling the shower door/curtain. We have this in two bathrooms and it works well.

Can you just adjust the delay for the length of a shower so that it stays on longer?

I put a pico remote on the opposite wall of the shower that I just press if the light goes off before I’m finished showering.

You may want to ignore my idea (as a joke) but install outdoor cam and keep the lights on until there are no snapshots uploaded to your telegram account.. Sorry, I just couldn’t control my reply to this subject.

Just add a door sensor to the shower door.
Door closed = Light remains switched on
Door open = Light is controlled by the motion sensor

Of course, everyone has to make sure that the door remains open when no one is showering.

This is actually a really good idea! Didn’t think of that

If You have other source of light in bathroom (mirror lights?) You could do this in different way.

When You taking bath set flow that when You turn on mirror light, Main light doesn’t turning off.

For me it is working well.

Best regards

I am trying to create this Flow currently but I feel like I may be over complicating it. I am still new to this advanced flow creation. How would this look if this was something I’d create? thank you in advance!

This is what I have currently. I am sure something is wrong as the lights only trigger when the door is opened but not when the motion is triggered

You just need to modify your existing light flow a little and add the contact sensor as a condition.
The light should only go out when the shower door is open and no movement is detected.

I don’t know your light flow, but here are two standard examples:

If you post a screenshot of your light flow, then it’s easier to show you what changes need to be made.

If you use a timer app instead of the build-in delay flow cards , you can also restart it as soon as the shower door is opened so that the light doesn’t turn off because the MS has not yet detected any new movement.
I don’t recommend to use the build-in delay flow cards. Once this card has been activated, the time runs to the end, no matter what happens. This time cannot be interrupted or restarted. I recommend a separate timer app for such use cases, e.g. the Chronograph app.

I recommend the following tutorial as a basis for a light flow with a timer:
[Simple] Lights turning on/off based on motion

Although the tutorial was created with Standard Flows, it can also be created with Advanced Flow without any problems.

I have created my bathroom light solution in a way so you get a prewarming after a x secund, than you have y second to respond (trigger the motion sensor again), before the light switch off. I just need to put my arm out beside the curtain, than the motion sensor react.

Off course then motion sensor must be able to see you your arm.

The prewarning switch off half of the lights, it could also dim the light down or blink, so you know it time to react.

There is no flow that starts with “when motion is detected”.
