Amazon Alexa app issue since Homey Pro update to 12.8.2

Since the update to Homey Pro 12.8.2 the Amazon Alexa app has to be constantly (every 20mins or so) restarted and the account relinked.

It will then work again for approx 20mins before having to go through the restart and relink process

Nothing else has changed other than the Homey Pro update.

Just checked mine, it didn’t work, so rebooted homey and re-connected EU servers, all good and working

Yep dropping out will log it

I know how to submit a Homey Support request. I made the topic as it seems to be an app issue as everything else works fine and the app hasn’t been updated for over a year it seems.

Hi Carl,

Please add that info to the initial post next time  , because a number of (new) users seem to think this forum is Athom Support.

I think Robert pointed you to report to Athom, because they broke this Alexa app with this firmware.

2nd, creating a topic for apps having their own app topic, is not the way.
Like the Amazon Alexa app, most apps have their own topic, which will nudge the developer as well when you post in there.
You can find links to these app topics (and more) on the app page at the homey.app store.

But possibly you know this as well

3rd, Athom tends to change stuff without informing the app developers.
Saying things like "

isn’t fair here, because the developer is forced to drop everything because of a fine working app suddenly fails after some firmware update by Athom…

Not needing updates every week shows the stability of the app ← trying to emphasise the positive side of "long time not updated apps.

4th, you can revert to the previous firmware when you’ve craeted offline backups prior to updating fw.

Hi Carl, I am interested to see if you still have the problem? with alexa

Hi Kevin,

Yes the problem still exists. You have to reconnect to server every 20mins or so.

Me too, and I got posted back from support back to this https://community.homey.app/t/amazon-alexa-disconnect-frequently/45576?utm_source=chatgpt.com

Did you log a call with support? here is where I am so far! as you can see I got posted back to 2021?. I bought an Alexa before they were available in Europe from the US and created an account on the US servers as Europe inc UK was not available at the time. I have switched my Alexa connection to the US servers and the reason I hadn’t done this over the last couple of days was I have seen posts in threads saying anything local stuff would not be available such as local weather ect, not just Homey but Smartthings and other systems I have used. My tests so far on the US servers are positive and local weather works for the UK, TTS is working ect so I will see how long its stable and report back

Standard “pass the blame to the app developer” from Athom.

However, I’m seeing more and more reports from developers that their apps are getting killed because of changes that Athom made in dealing with apps that (supposedly) use too much memory, and it wouldn’t surprise me at all that this is causing issues with the Alexa app as well.

Ha ha use AI, build your own apps and optimise the thing, I have cracked the Salus plug all working, next thing is Zipato because what I have at the moment doesn`t work

Well connecting to US servers are the same — disconnect, support closed my ticket, I cant believe this thread is not on fire unless everyone binned their Alexa Devices - glad i didn’t ditch Hubitat yet

same problem with Echo Show 5:

  • every 1-2 minute comes the event: “When we connect to Amazon Server”
  • also often comes the event “When we are unable to be authenticated by the Amazon Server any more”

I have installed firmware 12.9.0-rc.11 and it is the same problem.

Perhaps Athom is silently forcing Alexa users to their own implementation: https://support.homey.app/hc/en-us/articles/360020154553-Connecting-Homey-with-Amazon-Alexa

Hi HS64 did you have the problem before 12.9.0-rec.11?

That only exposes homey to Alexa. Not the devices in Alexa that homey uses.

Ah right, apologies for the noise.
