Am I not supposed to be able to add Aqara FP2?

I just bought the Aqara FP2 sensor and it runs on the native Aqara app as it should.

Unfortunately, I’ve not been able to add it to Homey Pro - am I not supposed to be able to do that either using the official Homey app (the FP2 is not where you pick the device you want to add) or via Matter (it doesn’t accept the QR code on the back of the device)?

When I researched this, I got the impression that it would be possible either way, so I’m not sure why none of them is working out for me.

You have to install the app Homekit Controller, this is the only app who is working with the Fp2

The Aqara FP2 uses Wi-Fi instead of Zigbee or Matter/Thread like most other Aqara devices. Since Aqara doesn’t provide a public API for integration, there’s no official way to add the device to Homey.

However, as mentioned, you can integrate the FP2 using the HomeKit Controller Community App for Homey. This allows Homey to act as a HomeKit controller, enabling control of the FP2. Keep in mind that the QR code on the FP2 is not a Matter QR code but a HomeKit QR code, which you can use for pairing.

Aqara is working on a Matter update for the FP2 but when this will be launched is still unknown.

Thanks, but I already tried that as well - without luck.

The device HAS been added successfully to HomeKit and shows up in Home-app as functional.

When I try adding it via HomeKit Controller, but it doesn’t show up.

But, never mind, I’ll return it and get a device that actually works from the start, not waiting for “we’re working on Matter…sometime… maybe…”

Please follow the instructions of the app carefully. You can’t pair the device with HomeKit and the app.

Thank you - I deleted it from Home and now it works

My mistake was that I understood the HomeKit Controller as “pulling” the devices FROM what’s already installed in HomeKit.

Not even using the Aqara hubs, like the M3 that adds Matter to Aqara?

The FP2 has Wi-Fi built in and doesn’t connect to their hubs, so no.

I actually got it to work now without homekit controller. I bought the M3 hub and it can utilize “Advanced Matter Bridging” where you can set up signals from the Aquara app, which again turns up in Homey as devices when you have connected the hub to Homey via Matter. I have set up a “Presence” signal from my FP2 in the Aquara app which again turns up as a matter device in Homey. With this approach you can set up other functions from FP2 such as “Someone enters from the left”, “Someone is approaching”, “Illumination drops to___” and many more. You can read more here: Introducing Advanced Matter Bridging - Aqara

Well, I think I’m going crazy now, and I’ve been trying to connect the Aqara FP2 for two hours. I added it to the Aqara app, and then it automatically adds it to the Apple Home app. Then I delete it from the Apple Home app and try to add it to Homey via the HomeKit Controller, but without success. Well, I have to be honest, I only managed to see it in Homey once, but then I had to enter the code, and then it wouldn’t go through until I timed out. After that, I deleted it from the Aqara app and reinstalled it ten times, and then deleted it from the Home app again, but it never shows up in Homey. It’s truly despondent.
What am I doing wrong?

By the way, if I unplug it and plug it back in, it keeps flashing blue, and the sensor shows as offline in the Aqara app.

I’m starting to think this sensor is a failure. It’s just too user-unfriendly.

Did you find this alr?

Yes, of course I found that post, and I’m really trying to follow the manual.

But the problem is that even when I unplug the Aqara, it won’t work anymore, the blue light stays on, and it’s offline in the Aqara app.

I then reset everything and delete it in the Aqara app, then plug it back in, delete everything from the Apple Home app, and it still doesn’t find it in the HomeKit Controller. Then I unplug it, but after that, it keeps flashing blue and never comes back online.

No way. I hope someone has a really good tip, otherwise I’ll return it and get a different presence sensor.

If I follow Athom’s own Best By Guide, it’s still crap!

Unbelievable, I made a last attempt and suddenly!

Now I really give up!
I finally managed to get it working in the living room, then turned off the power again and moved the Aqara FP2 to the attic. I set up Flow, and unfortunately, it won’t start again. It seems to be a Wi-Fi problem.

Make sure to use a separate 2.4GHz wifi SSID for smart home stuff (most of it works with 2.4GHz and can get “confused” when it should connect to wifi5 or wifi6 systems).
And of course bind every IP address to it’s MAC address (a.k.a. reserved IP addresses or fixed IP adresses)
→ Homey seems to lose track of devices with a changed IP address due to DHCP behaviour, resulting in "Device unavailable :warning: " errors.

Thanks Peter, I’ll definitely have to work on this!

I don’t have any fixed IP addresses, and certainly no MAC addresses, assigned to them.

It was clear to me that I needed to use 2.4, but I can’t yet fully grasp the implications for the rest of my Wi-Fi devices.
