I recently acquired an Aeotec multisensor 7 and in the Homey interface it always shows its tamper/vibration alarm as active and doesn’t seem to deactivate it. I also suspect that this prevents the motion detector from triggering because the motion detector triggered once (during setup) and then never again. The same thing happened when I disconnected the sensor from Homey and then re-connected it (in an attempt to deactivate the vibration alarm), a single trigger and then nothing anymore (vibration alarm triggered again). Does anyone have any experience with these sensors, and if so, does anyone know how I can fix these issues?
With a rest, do you mean the “soft” reset (holding the start button for 5 seconds until the LED turns orange), I already tried that and it doesn’t seem to work.
Or a “hard” reset? Holding the start button for 20 seconds in order to revert to factory settings? (I have not tried that yet).
I was also thinking of removing the batteries and inserting them again after 19 minutes or so, if nothing else works
The wake up procedure (orange LED) didn’t work.
Then I took out the batteries (since the hard reset is only adviced if the hub has failed according to the manual, which it technically didn’t). This was very hard to do because they are packed very tight in there. I put the batteries back in and now both the vibration sensor and the motion sensor are stuck. (Is this device always so unreliable…?)
Ok, none of that worked… The vibration alarm just keeps going off and there doesn’t seem anhything I can do to stop it or to reset it. It just refuses to listen. And my motion sensor still refuses service as well. Sometimes it briefly reports when I wake the sensor up with the button (the orange LED thing) or when I re-insert the batteries but apart from that it just refuses to do work. The last thing I tried was reset the sensor to factory settings (holding the button for 20 seconds until blue LED flash), take out the batteries, wait a few hours (to clear the cache) and then re-insert the batteries and pairing it using the older S0 pairing (the checkbox under advanced options when pairing) because I thought it might be a faulty s2 pairing that caused the problems and…nothing!! Same story! I’m really starting to think I may have a faulty unit there because this just cannot be normal.
Ok, I connected it to USB power and that finally got rid of the vibration alarm (I also simply deactivated it so it won’t get stuck again). Problem is: now that I’m back on battery power the motion sensor does not report. It reported frequently and consitently when on USB power and now seems to refuse to function when switching back to batteries. (I keep posting here of the progression so it might serve as a documentation for others with similar issues)
Did you already try to replace the battery for a new one, even if the currently used battery was new?
Sometimes “new” batteries lay around for years in warehouses or stores.
Could that really be the source of the issue though? Because the other sensors (Humidity. Temperature, UV and light) report just fine. Also,Homey’s battery indicator says the batteries are at 100%.
Okay… So, I restored it to factory settings again and could avoid the vibration alarm calamity by immediatly pressing the button for 5 seconds (until the orange LED) and then configuring it so that the vibration alarm is basically off. But the motion sensor was still not reporting in the room where I want to put it (which is not that far away from my living room where Homey is as I live in realtively small apartment). I then connected it to USB power again and tested it in the room to rule out network connectivity issues and it worked pretty much flawlessly then. I suppose I have to come to the conclusion that the motion sensor is just unreliable on battery power… (anyone else have this problem?)
Real bummer.
Not sure if the Aeotec or Homey is the problem.
Homey is not a “everything just works” hub, despite the (way too) optimistic commercial publications by Athom.
Sometimes certain devices just “don’t get along”.
Like @Eternity wrote in the other post, some Aeotec sensors work fine, some exactly the same sensors don’t.
English:
Unfortunately, one of them turned out to be impossible to add at all, so I just gave up.
Aeotec have (in my previous experience) good customer services. I had issues with their door window sensor dry contacts. I was using it with a pressure pad in a bed. It was awful.
They were really helpful and got it working and even changed firmware and menu options after some back and forth. Worth an email.
If I send that email however, I am choosing to keep it though since I’ve had it for almost two weeks now and if I do not return it within the next two days, I can’t get my money back anymore. So taking that route would be a minor leap of faith that Aeotec can solve my problem.
The thing is though, it works… on USB power. On batteries it categorically refuses to transmit motion alerts. And if it somehow does (which is a chance of 1 in 100 it seems), it gets stuck in a motion triggered loop and doesn’t snap out of it until I force it to communicate with homey by holding that button down on the back. So there doesn’t seem to be anything wrong with the motion sensor itself, just that the multisensor’s battery saving policy seems so aggressive that it shuts down one if its core functionalities somehow.
I’m tempted to sent it back and get a seperate humidity sensor and a seperate motion sensor.
I mean, I could use it wired but then the placement wouldn’t be where I want it to be, plus it looks wonky, having it sit at an electrical outlet with that wire sticking out…
