ZigBee and Z-Wave OTA updates are coming!

This is the mobile app update.

Ah

Hi, do you have any information about upcoming firmware updates for Shelly Wave (Z-Wave) devices? I’m still using older FW versions with a few known bugs that seem to be fixed in newer releases.

I had to try often, lots of fails. But in the end only two more to go. Homey is even ahead of ikea in versions. :+1:

Going a bit further, I managed to get one of my Ikea MYGBETT to 1.1.4 - first it failed/timed out at 8%, after it came back online (took 15-30 min), second try went to 100% and applying, then timed out again. Third try again half an hour later just went to failed then success within a second.

I have similar issues with BILRESA and motion sensor MYGGSPRAY, all timing out after some time, then being unreachable for a long time, before I can try again. Only KLIPPBOK (water sensor) worked fine for both on first try.

Most likely the very old firmware on the problematic devices is not great at keeping the connection during updates alive, vs. the water sensor, which was already almost up-to-date.

Will just keep trying, eventually it will work for each device, I’m sure. As long as they recover from a failed update by themselves after some time, it’s not a big deal.

We are also working with Shelly to enable OTA updates for their products

And what about Aeotec?

Aeotec as well, we are in touch with the following brands to support OTA updates:

  • Aeotec
  • frient
  • INNR
  • Innovelli
  • ThirdReality
  • NodOn
  • Shelly
  • IKEA
  • DEVI by Danfoss
  • Danfoss
  • Namrom
  • EcoDim
  • iBlinds
  • GE Enbrighten / Jasco
  • Leviton

For Matter devices, it’s also important to mention that these go through the Connectivity Standards Alliance (CSA). If manufacturers use Matter for their devices, no additional integration development is required for them to work with OTA updates on Homey.

I honestly wouldn’t hold out for any improvements

I did mine using the Dirigera and the battery powered devices were still useless

The only device I’ve kept is the contact sensor, which seems to be responsive even after a long time without a change.

Great stuff

Updating my old Eve Energy plugs took a while, but was a breeze using the app.
Nice to finally have energy monitoring on those!

Every battery powered Matter over Thread device I have tried to update has failed

Did you wake them first?

Three attempts trying to update an Eve Weather, got to between 50%-70% before failing
I kept the screen on the entire time

This isn’t an instance of user error, it’s clearly an issue with the app

So glad this is finally available.

But I can confirm evenprime’s experience. I had the same with IKEA BILRESA and MYGGSPRAY. All other Ikea device went first time right. But BILRESA and MYGGSPRAY failed multiple times. Gave it up yesterday, tried them today and finaly after some tries got updated. BILRESA loaded to 100% but after restart it said failed. Did the update again and passed. MYGGSPRAY now also successfull.

Exact same experience here (with the same devices!!).

I was able to update my Aqara FP300 (Matter) without any problems :+1:t3:

In my experience the battery powered Ikea devices need several retries to update the firmware, even when using Ikea’s own Dirigera Hub or Apple Homekit to update the firmware. So it is not per se a Homey issue. I think it is an issue with the devices.

Of course it’s a Homey issue, if it’s happening with multiple battery powered devices from different manufacturers.

Ohhhh… No Sonoff? :face_with_raised_eyebrow:

Too bad in that case!

Tried from home yesterday, no luck.

Has anyone with a Homey Self Hosted server managed to update Matter devices?
