ZigBee and Z-Wave OTA updates are coming!

Take your time:relieved_face:. I like the software to be perfect

Indeed. Last thing you want is the firmware update of a device to fail. :face_with_tongue:

I already contemplated buying a used DIRIGERA just to get all my IKEA sensors etc. updated. Good I saw this, so I’ll just wait that little bit longer. :+1:

I don’'t have the option anywhere, but that’s probably because I have the Pro 2019

But I will pull the APK to check for some more Homey Portal references in the code!

It’s indeed not available/visible on my Pro 2019s, Sven. But it is on my Pro 2026.

It’s live now

Fantastic! Has anyone received any updates yet? According to the app all my devices are up to date. (And they are not  ) I assume that Athom will perhaps stage the rollout.

Will it not be available on SHS? That would be a strange choice.

I am guessing here, but maybe a reason for that is that Athom feel that they cannot guarantee correct update functionality on all possible combos of radios/dongles that might be in SHSs?

The only compatible “dongle” is Homey Bridge:wink:

I have the new App now and see OTA FW updates for Ikea MYGBETT devices (to 1.1.4), BILRESA remotes (1.9.15), watersensor KLIPPBOK and for a smoke detector from HEIMAN.

All devices are connected through Matter

EDIT: Also nice, you see the updating devices and the progress in the App. Trying a few now

Another factor is that Athom indicated before that only devices can be updated by Homey for which the brand provides firmware files.

For example:

I have a bunch of Zigbee devices from IKEA that I know have firmware updates since forever. I hope they show up eventually.

For the IKEA Zigbee devices we are waiting to receive the files from IKEA, after that the IKEA app will be updated which will make those updates available for your devices.

I don’t think many of the brands will provide OTA files to other gateways (like Homey) though. Why would any brand provide free OTAs to 3rd party gateways when they can also just force people to buy their bridge instead? For Matter it’s required AFAIK (so those devices will all have update functionality), but I don’t think many brands will provide updates for Zigbee or Z-Wave devices.

After first attempts at updates, I’ve mixed experience:

MYGBETT door contact sensors update failed (tried two devices, one located directly next to Homey Pro 2026). Both went to 8% and then the device became unreachable. I’ll see if they recover by themselves or I have to reset them. Would’ve been 1.0.9 to 1.1.4 upgrade, so quite a lot at once.

KLIPPBOK water sensor update worked fine from 1.0.11 to 1.0.13.

Will try other devices and the original ones a bit later.

Confirmed that it also works on SHS. When I go to my IKEA matter bulb, the update is found.

Edit:

Updates are visible, but updating isn’t possible:

I’m not on the same network at the moment, so maybe that’s the reason. Will try again when I get home.

Sorry to ask: is this a homey firmware update?

If yes how is this different than a RC (release candidate)?

how can I install it? Enable experimental functions maybe?

Thanks,

Ruud
