I bought this Homey Pro 2023 a couple weeks ago and set some smart devices up and running ( almost )
The thing is my Homey keeps disconnecting from my WiFi at least 2 times a day. I have done all the steps I could find on the forum to try to solve it but nope, still looses connection to the WiFi. Extremely annoying and I’m starting to look on alternative, HA and Hubitat. BUT I love the Homey dashboard and stuff. The only thing I haven’t tried is the Ethernet adapter. The Homey Pro is expensive as it is and the adapter is another expensive thing to buy for this machine. My big concern is that the adapter will not solve my problem and I bought another expensive thing just to get some flows going and for a sleek dashboard. I guess I will never know if I don’t buy it! And to be honest, the lack of Tuya support is a big issue for me. Well, I guess now that I’m reading what I have been writing so maybe best for me to sell this machine and go for a cheaper, simpler alternative.
Are you sure there’s no Wi-Fi connection, and not just that the Homey app can’t connect?
And can you give us some more information about what’s happening? (Is the Wi-Fi connection automatically restored, do you see a connection loss on the router, 2.4 or 5 GHz, etc.?)
Not sure what you mean, or how you came to this conclusion?
It’s true Athom management isn’t liking/recommending Tuya stuff, but we have to admit Tuya is just everywhere.
Still I don’t recommend it in combination with Homey, when you’re still setting up your smart home.
With serious downsides[1], Homey Pro series supports:
almost any Tuya wifi device out there, by cloud connection
almost any Tuya zigbee + bluetooth device by cloud connection, when you throw in a €15 Tuya zigbee+Ble hub;
You’ll need this app for both 1 and 2: Tuya Cloud
lots of Tuya zigbee devices directly with Homey zigbee
You’ll need this app: Tuya Zigbee
¹) ○ The Tuya Cloud app is unmaintained, but it works fine → until Tuya changes their API, or Athom adds breaking changes to Homey firmware.
It needs a pretty extended configuration, and a (free) subscription renewal twice a year.
Cloud dependency is a choice. But, Homey is cloud dependent too.
○ The Tuya Zigbee app’s new device adding activity seems to be stalled, but there’s a new initiative here for zigbee (still in development and it seems to rely on AI); unknown how this works out.
Offline crap issues
Yes I’d buy the ethernet dongle right away.
Not sure what info you read, but to minimize the “Homey is offline” bug from bugging you, it comes down to:
Add a local account, but that’s only useable with my.homey.app
prevent Homey from Access Point hopping
reserve IP addresses at your DHCP server for phone(s) & Homey (and all wifi devices paired with Homey)
be careful when you want to use vLAN’s, PiHole, AdGuard and other network related stuff.
Keep at least 1.5m between Homey and a wifi router/AP
split 2.4GHz and 5GHz wifi and use different SSID’s
Yes, I’m sure that Homey has no internet connection. I usually go into the Deco app (the mesh router) when this happens, and Homey is not listed among the connected devices. I have set Homey to use only 2.4 GHz and NOT connect via Mesh, but only to the main router. It has been given a dedicated IP address.
Homey is about 20 cm away from that router.
Homey disappears from the router and then reconnects after a while, maybe taking 10–30 minutes without me doing anything. No restart or anything like that.
Ok, I have not connected my Homey app locally to my Homey, what do you mean by that? I have to be able to use the Homey and control it when I am away on work, I’m not always at home working and can be on the road for a couple of days at time. The other solution you mentioned I have done. The Homey is just not connected to my router. It reconnects after a couple of minutes, usually 10-30 min. I don’t now…
Yes, the Tuya. Tuya is everywhere and so easy to find smart stuff that uses Tuya, both WiFi and locally. It’s so much easier for me to find a smart thing that uses Tuya than other brands. I like to shop locally from different stores here in Sweden, and normally when I find a smart thing it normally uses Tuya. Sure I buy stuff from the internet and China direct like Temu and AliExpress but I’m a little bit allergic to the shipment time
And to be honest, the prices is just priceless:-)
I have downloaded both the apps but never got them going or connected to any Tuya in my home. It seems I can’t use the Tuya cloud app if I uses the phone. The site that I have to logg in to appears different on the phone then on a PC.
Maybe there should be a guide for dummies like me how to do it step by step and what I have to use for getting my Tuya stuff to connect to my Homey. I didn’t now I had to have a Tuya zigbee/BT hub, thought Homey could act like that as well?
Yeah, a better guide on how to connect Tuya to the Homey is needed. I’m not in anyway a tech guy, I just want it to work or at least a easy guide to follow
I also had some issues with Homey connectivity and had often the app saying that Homey isn’t available. After replacing my home network with Ubiquity switches and wifi access point still the same issues.
No I bought the Homey LAN adapter and these issues are gone.
So it’s a minimal investment to buy the adapter and hopefully it will also work for you.
From the information you give us I think the ethernet connection will resolve you problems with Homey not being connected to the internet, so I’d advise you to try it.
Furthermore, I’m not sure what country you’re from and if you’re part of the EU, but there’s EU legislation that says anything bought online can be sent back within a certain period without the need to give a reason.
‘Wet kopen op afstand’ in dutch. I’d say, check the Athom website if that applies to you too.
Thanks for all the replies. I’m going to keep my Homey for a little bit longer, I’m going to try with the adapter and see if it will solve my problems before I sell it. But If I can’t get the Tuya smart devices up and running with the Homey, I’m sorry but I will probably give up the Homey. Again, thanks for the replies.
