Which Matter Version

Hi,
Which version of the matter standard is currently supported by homey pro and are there plans to support the latest standard 1.3?

Thanks,
Michael

It looks like it supports Matter 1.2

You’d have to ask Athom. This is a community forum.

See Homey Pro (Early 2023) Changelog | Homey

v10.2.0

  • Updates Matter to version 1.2.

afaik the next version Matter 1.3 is just announced (released) 4 days ago by CSA (Matter 1.3 Specification Released - CSA-IOT )

Usually Athom says is is Available (eventually in Beta) when it is released…
But Let us know when you get another date or have different information.

We are allready on version 12.0.2 (Homey Pro (Early 2023) Changelog | Homey), but still no matter update to version 1.3. I like the new flow and energy monitoring Matter 1.3 - a deep dive into the new features | Development | matter-smarthome (for example from a socket).
Hope Homey will read this.

Samsung only now announced that it will support version 1.3 as the first major smart home platform. Home assistant just finished the integration of 1.3 in their November update and are still working on getting certified.

I want homey to support matter 1.3, too. But to manage your expectations: almost no one else does right now, only home assistant.

I’ve been using 1.3 on Home Assistant for a couple of months already. It was still in beta, but it worked fine with the devices I threw at it.

Not possible, because they integrated different device groups step by step. So you couldn’t be possibly using all devices (especially energy monitoring) “for months”. As such, they didn’t have a full 1.3 integration ready “for months”. Also not in beta.

Anyway, homey was this far quite on par with the other big players when it comes to adopting new matter versions. So when Apple and others start supporting 1.3, I expect Athom to deliver as well. But not before that. If you want bleeding edge tech, go for HA.

That’s not what I said, though.

Also not what I said.

Or stability. Or device support. Or better Zigbee. Or dashboards that work in a web browser

I know. I can read. But your statement was misleading. Nothing I hate more than misleading statements because someone chose to withheld information.

There you go. You don’t like homey. Fair. But keep it real and fair in discussions, too. HA didn’t support Matter 1.3 fully in its stable release until October. Period.

And then again, remind me please, how many devs work on HA? How many on Homey? What do most devs on HA earn other than a “thank you”?

Your other grievances with homey are a completely different story and shouldn’t taint your comments in different topics.

And just so you know where I stand: I myself am considering switching to HA, but am weighing the costs of maintenance work compared to Homey.

:astonished: I was pretty sure it was already the case but indeed my SmartThings hubs still runs Matter1.2.

I have couple of Matter devices that I’ll be moving from SmartThings to Homey as soon as Homey release support for Matter 1.3 and hopefully with additional features regarding energy insights similar to what SmartThings does.

Matter 1.4 release

Homey has said they will first start by adding energy management from Matter 1.3 to their Matter 1.2 but not fully support Matter 1.3.
Let’s now hope they can skip Matter 1.3 and directly bring us Matter 1.4

To (fully) implement Matter 1.4 you would need to (fully) implement 1.3 as well, the changes in 1.4 are cumulative. But Athom doesn’t have a great track record when it comes to fully implementing standards, the Zigbee implementation has been lacking for many years with no signs of Athom caring about improving it, and I’m afraid they will do the same with Matter (the “we will first start by adding energy management” remark is a bad sign…).

:frowning:
I was hoping it would be simpler from a development perspective to go directly to 1.4 but if they are exclusively incremental changes and nothing from Matter 1.3 needs to be re-written for Matter 1.4 and there is no benefits skipping one version then my hopes got lowered

Agree with you, I understand they need to prioritize development, but I hope that after Dashboards, Matter will be their number one priority (along with stability / more advanced tools for Zigbee). I know everyone has different priorities but I’m curious how they prioritize it. Not that I challenge their priorities but wondering which data they use to make their choices. There are so many ways of doing it and I hope their choice is data driven (some telemetry they got from their Homey devices, feedback from developers, reporting from communities). If the telemetry they have in Homey can’t help them with instability, maybe they should be adding more telemetry even if it is optional
