I have a question. If one day the company Homey closes its doors, will we still have access to the HTML platform? Isn’t it hosted by them? And I assume we won’t have access to the App Store anymore. How would we operate the modules without access?
Given how a lot of parts of the Homey ecosystem depend on external servers, my guess is that your Homey will probably stop working (or rather that you won’t be able to control it).
Oh, that’s concerning because I’ve already experienced a similar issue with a box that went bankrupt, even though it was from a major telecommunications operator. Overnight, everything stopped working, and I had to purchase a new box from a different manufacturer. Considering the cost and the incredibly long time it took to set everything up again, I really hope Homey doesn’t pull a stunt like that.
Well, Homey is still unique, Athom is making profit as far as I know, they keep adding new functionality, extending their ecosystem…I wouldn’t be worried for some next few years but not saying it’s not possible.
Btw what was the system you have used previously?
Companies usually do not plan to go bankrupt up-front (yes I know it does happen), so, I would not be too worried, however, sh.t can always happen.
This system was called Homelive from Orange, which forced me to turn to Eedomus. However, since Eedomus has not been improving its box for several years and never responds to their customers, I have the impression that they will also abandon it.
Well, i bought some BTLE keychain tokens (Find). Those where new and it worked on iOs and Android. They launched one update and shortly after that averything was gone. Its my humble opinion this was the Pre-Airtag release. They homey is a shelled Raspberry Pi. When Homey goes doen they might find a way to hack it and use it anyway.
I have a question: if Homey servers are unavailable for several hours, can we still control our modules remotely through the 5G application? And do we still receive push notifications? Also, is it possible to connect a 4G USB key as a backup if the internet connection goes down?
What is that?
Probably not while it’s send per cloud?
You mean a gsm data dongle? Where do you connect it to? Is there an app for it?
Actually your answer to your question is quite subjective on many factors and dependancies.
“if Homey servers are unavailable”, if Athom homey all 4 main cloud systems are down, Homey Bridge will not be able to access. Whereas Homey Pro to a certain extend still able to function to if push or apps ‘are not depending on Homey cloud’. Basic function zigbee/zwave still function, local mqtt server, device will still works fine.
3G/4G/5G/LTE USB stick /dongle is backup for your home internet redundancy where you configure your home wireless/lan router fall back to USB when your ISP fibre/copper went down. This added advantage to your home security and internet too including Homey.
Currently there no support Homey direct connection USB Modem.
Precisely the point… I always keep my home automation and devices simple and HA supported. If anything goes wrong, at most, I can revert back to HA.
