Understanding Reolink events

I’m trying to understand what the new Reolink support actually provides. What I’m looking for is a doorbell event that indicates when a specific person (or an unknown person) is detected.

So the app blurb says “AI detection: person, vehicle, pet, package, face” but the Flow Cards for Doorbells and Cameras just say there’s a “Person detected” event.

Does that mean the events don’t distinguish the person at all? Or am I misinterpreting things?

Thanks for any explanations!

My Reolink doorbell can only detect a person (or pet, or vehicle), not a specific person.

You can use the “Face++ app” for instance, to compare the event snapshot with pre-saved pictures of known faces;

and there are forum topics about using AI to “tell” you what it detects on an event snapshot.
One of those I just found:

How this all works concerning the privacy of unaware visitors I don’t know.

That’s an interesting approach I hadn’t thought of. While I’m not so comfortable about Face++’s need for a remote server, moving the actual recognition to some other system has an appeal.

Thanks! That’s a pretty unsophisticated AI.

That’s what Reolink calls it, even though it’s very likely not “AI” but a neural network.

Maybe this topic should be merged with the Reolink App topic or you should ask the question in there so the developer can respond to the question.

I can only guess: Wanted to include it originally, but couldnt get it functioning (yet).

Originally Reolink camera’s don’t support facial recognition because of the privacy concerns

Note : Facial recognition security cameras can possibly cause privacy infringements and data security risks, as they capture and analyze individuals’ facial features and personal information. As a responsible security solution provider, Reolink consistently prioritizes user privacy. Consequently, Reolink cameras do not currently offer facial recognition capabilities . However, you can utilize alternative features, such as person or vehicle detection, to meet your needs
