Unable to Connect Homey to Google Home - "Could not Reach Homey. Please try again."

Hey All,

Newbie here, been slowly dabbling in the home automation space when time permits and the Homey Pro 2023 so far has been okay, the flows/automation is really a standout.

I have slowly been integrating all the different apps over to homey and moving the automations from my google home ecosystem. I am now ready to take the plunge and link Homey and Google Home to use the voice assistant to control homey devices.

Unfortunately when I go to add Homey to the google home app, “Works with Google Home” → Search Homey → Select my Account → Loading starts with “Linking your Homey account”, then it fails and says “Could not Reach Homey. Please try again.”
(I know the Homey user credentials must be right since it shows the name of my Homey Pro)

I have restarted Homey, restarted the app, restarted my phone all in various sequences and no change to the message.

Is there a firewall or a setting that I am missing to enable Google Home to find Homey?

I am not particularly keen on resetting either google home or Homey, but if that is the only option and would get a solution, I will have to do it!

Kieran

EDIT/UPDATE #1:

Today I completely deleted the google home app and reinstalled a clean version. Tried again with the same error. So I called Google to see if they could assist. They more or less confirmed my situation and stated that the manufacturers of third party products are supposed to handle the integration of their devices through the google home interface.

Google were able to verify what I could see, i.e. login credentials are accepted, but there is a ‘cloud’ based integration issue between homey and google for my device (they can’t see why that is the case as that is within the homey ecosystem/integration).

May sound silly, but just try and try until it finally works.
And in between, check if devices got added anyways.

Sometimes when I command Ghome, it says “could not reach Homey”, but everything works fine.

I got the same error as well recently (on both Android and iOS GH app). But not only when adding Homey, but other devices too.
Perhaps a problem at Google’s side?

Oh don’t use v9.1.x Homey app version.
Try v9.0.0

Today I ws able to add Homey to Google Home again, as well as for another service.
Perhaps try again, @Kieran?

Yeah, I have been trying on and off for weeks and still no luck :frowning:

I was not exactly sure how to do this, a google on the forums says its not possible? Current app version is v9.1.0, not sure how to roll back to v9.0.0.

Homey is version 12.4.0

Just download the Android v9.0.0 app from apkpure:
https://apkpure.com/homey-%E2%80%94-a-better-smart-home/app.homey/download/9.0.0

Hi Peter, thanks for that detail. I uninstalled the current version of homey on my phone and then installed the version you provided in the link (just found a free XAPK installed on the google store), although it unfortunately did not make a difference. I tried on google home app after removing the current version and then again after it managed to install v9.

Out of curiosity, how would the app version assist? Wouldn’t it be more the homey pro operating system version? The issue is with the google app → Homey connection rather than the Homey app specifically. I am starting to wonder if it is an issue with my ISP allowing the connection or something strange like that.

Well, it didn’t work anymore with app versions above v9.0.0, and it did work with app version v9.0.0 and lower.

But, it seems to be fixed, it now works with v9.2.0.1698 as well (recent beta).

I would switch immediately to an other provider if things were restricted without notice.
In most cases, only you can enable any kind of filter (also ticking the “Yes, I want to be protected for €5 extra” box). Checking the settings again might be a plan.
Network tools like Pi-Hole, Adguard and such, can interfere. vLANs should be configured correctly.
