Trying to find a good smart switch that works wirelessly

I’m trying to find a wireless smart switch that works inside homey(one you don’t need hardwired). The only thing that I can find is Philips hue buttons. I already have Philips hue hub and bulbs and also a tap dial but for some reason I can’t get the dial to work inside homey app. It doesn’t show up as a device to add. So I’m looking for alternatives that will work seamlessly. I’d prefer zigbee but if you have wifi recommendations I’d take those as well. As the zigbee ones would be on wall and maybe the WiFi ones can be near my couch etc.

Any help with recommendations would be appreciated. If you know how to get the Philips hue buttons working as well that’d be nice. Regardless i’d like more recommendations than Philips hue for other smart buttons.

I have the newest homey pro if that helps
Thanks!

What type of Homey do you want an answer for?

[Tip] Problems with Homey?

I have the newest homey pro I think 2023

I use the Flic stuff a lot. It needs a hub, but Flic provides a specific Homey integration.

The flic buttons support push, double-push and hold. And you can use Homey to give multiple actions to each type of press.

The Flic Twist is quirky, but allows 36 different functions to be executed from a single button.

Flic is currently excited about its Duo button which is about to launch. Another quirky, but interesting device.

I have multiple of these Zigbee scene switches from Marmitek and MOES in use. Each button has three commands: 1 press, 2 presses and a long (5 sec) press.

Both are Tuya based. The Marmiteks work with the Marmitek app for Homey (and some also with the Tuya Zigbee app). The MOES’s with the Tuya Zigbee app for Homey.

Those brands often have sale on their website or on Amazon.

So I bought the moes 4 button switch but there is no option for the 4 button switch. Only the 1, 2, or 3 button switch? Is there a workaround at all? Little sad because they didn’t sell the 1, 2, or 3 in my area at the time.

Are you using the latest test version of the Tuya Zigbee app (v0.2.73)?

That version contains the ‘4 Gang Wall Remote’ device. It actually contains 3 versions; just choose one of them.

How do you get this test version? That doesn’t show up for mine?

Go to the app’s page on the Homey App Store.

Scroll down to the change log, and click the View changelog link.

In the log, click the Test button:

Then you will be redirected to the app page of the test version.

Finally, click the green Install App button.

Dang that is good to know! It says the app is up to date but that update was 4 years ago? That is crazy. Why is it not updated to be this version as it’s obviously much better from 4 years ago?

Thank’s a ton!

What I understand is that the developer (a community member) is working together with Athom to expand the number of supported devices of this app and plans to release a new live version ‘soon’, which would become an official app then.

I know that the developer has added hundreds of new devices, in his free time, in the last half year in an effort to enhance the app. Including support for the 4-button scene device and issues with the 1, 2, 3 and 4 button version of these devices. There is quite a backlog of new device requests and bug fixes. So he is trying to catch up :grinning:.

Let’s hope the new live version is released soon. In the mean time you can use the test version (which does gets updated). Also check out the dedicated topic for this app: [APP][Pro] Tuya Zigbee App.

I use alot from Ikea. Zigbee stuff works well, and the newer ones work on a rechargeable battery.

Do you need the IKEA hub or does it work with homey hub without any weird glitches?

Hi @Austin_Skillings I use several Ikea smart buttons without a hub. Currently I have Rodret, Somrig and Styrbar remote buttons working. In fact, anything Zigbee from Ikea works flawlessly, be it buttons or remote switches or lights.

I have successfully connected two Philips Tap Dial Switches to my Homey Pro 2023.

The app I use is called “Philips Hue, without the bridge”.

I recall I had some trouble initially following the directions in the app (push set-up button). This didn’t work. Instead, I had to follow the instructions that came with the switch (press the button 1 for three seconds - if I recall this correctly).

After that, the switches work flawlessly.

I did end up getting the tap dial to work and it works perfectly except I can’t get the rotating Dial to work for brightness. Have you figured that out?

Have you looked at IKEA’s STYRBAR button or some of their other smart switches?

They work fine directly with Homey 2023 and they are pretty cheap.

Yes, the following flow works for me:

I could also make it work with “rotate left slow” (but you have to turn it really slow) and with the “rotate left step”.
