Tour of bricked Homey Pro 2019

Just want to share my experience with homey. Got homey pro, pair some devices. Looks good for a while, so i have invested to smarthome devices. One day I had to upgrade my router. Only and one option how to change wifi network was factory reset homey. Why omg? Well i followed the official docs. but ou .. force update shows up .. never finished, bricked device. Asked support what to do. And the outcome .. you can still buy a new one. Well, no.

Happy selling homey team.

@Hartelk Were did you read that you have to factory reset your Homey for changing the wifi settings?

What Homey do you have and when did you buy it?
Homey support is very good imho.
Didn’t come here for advice and support as well.
You weren’t here for 4 years; now only for complaining
 What’s the point?

@Dijker Thanks.

@Mike1233 You answered yourself  You need to enter to recovery mode to change wifi.

@Henk_Renting was just taking out the trash and I found this brick. And it awakened anger in me, because I threw away 400 dollars on something that will never work again. The worst part is that it wasn’t even my fault — an automatic update started, never finished, and now the device won’t turn on anymore. I want to share this bad experience with other users. There’s nothing wrong with that. Because neither support, the store, nor anyone else made any effort to resolve the situation. I feel cheated by it.

@Hartelk Were in the links that i have placed is written that you have to factory reset your Homey to change youre wifi password?

I would be curious about the communication between you and Athom. Because Athom Support is normally totally not what you mention here, as @Peter_Kawa also pointed out.

Just complaining here without any explanation or additional info doesn’t help anyone. Not you, not other users too.

Exactly. Just like the support team didn’t help me either. If anyone were interested in resolving the situation, they would have reached out.

That‘s a good one  :+1:

See? No one is interested in solving the real problem. Just the same talk around it.

Just like not answering questions that are asked here.

You mean, that you need to enter to recovery mode while changing wifi ?

There are two particular cases for enabling Recovery Mode:

  • You want to connect Homey to a new Wi-Fi network

  • Homey is not responding anymore

  • After an update, part of your Homey is not working correctly.

Do you mean that your Homey does not turn on at all (no power)? Or does it power on but then gets stuck during the boot process?

Does the LED ring show a color/patern before and when the Homey gets stuck?

The device tries to start, but it never boots up. The LED ring is only red. Flipping it upside down no longer triggers recovery mode. There is no button for a hard reset, and I’ve run out of options to get it working again.

So it is a Homey Pro (Early 2019) or older.

Added this to the Topic title to clarify

Just a thought: can you try another power adapter (5V, min 2.1A) and start you Homey in its normal position (on its feets)?

Which model of the Homey Pro do you have? The 2019 version?
