Bought Tado X thermostats and temperature sensor hoping to use the sensor of the temperature sensor to control the thermostats. Have connected both directly to Homey with Matter but can not get the thermostats to “disable” the built in temperature sensor and use the separate wireless temperature sensor X. It is not possible with Matter I suppose.
Anyone know how I should set it up to use the wireless temperature sensor x?
This feature may only be available in combination with the tado° Bridge X. Alternatively, the current Matter version of Homey, which is a mix of v1.2 and v1.3 according to Athom employees, may not yet support this feature.
Issue: If you plan to use the Tado Smart Radiator Thermostat X for Underfloor Heating (UFH) in a manifold box or any enclosed environment, be aware of a critical design limitation regarding the “Internal Sensor Lock.”
The Problem: Unlike a standard remote actuator, the Tado X uses a strict internal PID algorithm. If the device is in a warm enclosure (like a manifold cupboard), the internal thermometer will read a high temperature (e.g., 28°C).
The Lockout: Even if you use a smart hub (Homey, Google Home, Home Assistant) to set the temperature to 20°C, the device will refuse to move the motor.
Software Illusion: The display on the device and the app will update to show your new target, but the valve itself will remain physically closed/open because the internal logic believes the target is already “met” based on the local heat in the box.
The Hidden Cost: There is no way to disable the internal thermometer or force the motor to move via third-party apps. To fix this, you are forced to buy a Wireless Temperature Sensor X for every single room to act as the “Measuring Device.”
Standalone Cost: ~€130 per sensor.
Result: A “simple” setup can quickly double in price just to gain basic motor control.
Bottom Line: Do not buy Tado X for manifold control unless you are prepared to buy an external X sensor for every zone. If you want a device that simply “does what it’s told” by your Smart Home Hub, this is not the device for you.
