How to integrate tado Wireless Temperature Sensor X

Hi Forum,

I’m pretty new to homey pro and tado as well. I wonder how it would be possible to determine that my wireless temperature sensor should overrule a smart thermostate?

I’m not sure what you mean. Do you mean that you want a different temperature sensor (so no Tado) to overrule the smart Tado Thermostate? Maybe you can use flows to set temperature, but what is the use case ? This as the Tado thermostate already overrules the Tado knob if in the same room

No. Sorry that I didn’t make it clear enough. In my living room, I have a tado smart thermostate mounted on a radiator. Also, I installed a tado wireless temperature sensor. The goal is that this temperature sensor controls the valve on my radiator.

N.B. all mentioned devices are tado x.

  • Wireless Temperature Sensor X
  • Smart Radiator Thermostat X

I’ve got also available a Bridge X but didn’ install ist.

In that case is the sensor not overriding the valve setting? I have read somewhere this is how Tado works in their own app?

With the Tado X series, if you have both a Wireless Temperature Sensor X and Smart Radiator Thermostat X assigned to the same room, the Tado app automatically takes the temperature of the Wireless Temperature Sensor X. Using the previous generation of Tado devices (v3), you could select the measurement device in the app for each room, but it is not possible with X. With the X series, a bunch of other features are lost (or not yet developed/enabled), e.g.: Early heat, comfort heat.

I’m facing the same problem… But I am not even seeing the When settings that Homey advertises…

Maybe I could get it to work if I had the When conditions (The target temperature changed, The temperature changes), but they are completly missing from the integration.

I’ve emailed Athom about it. Right now seems like false advertising by them…

You compare a thermostat (app store) with a sensor?
Sensors don’t have a target temperature setting, they only send temperature values.

Some are more advanced

Ah I see, didn’t know that. So it"s name should be more like: wireles remote assistant thermostat

Now I don’t know where the issue is:

  • The sensor does not advertise itself as thermostat via Matter
  • Homey’s Matter implementation does not recognise the sensor correctly as thermostat, only as temperature sensor

Question, does the device tile act as thermostat? Or is that just presented as multi-sensor?

I think at the moment, it is the Homey implementation that is broken. If you look at the Home Tado page (on the screenshot), they clearly list the sensor X as supported with specific flows. But when it is paired, it just shows up as a generic Matter device. The Thermostat X (Radiator Control) shows up properly.

I have checked the firmware and it is the latest.

I did manage to get it working as a remote control. I paired it via IOS to the Tado App, and then imported it into Homey. But in the Tado App, you can link the controller to the thermostat.

But would be nice if Homey actually shows the flows that they advertise.

Can you please respond to:

Next,

Absolutely not, they only ‘advertise’ flowcards for “Smart Thermostat X”, not for “Wireless Temperature Sensor X”
The latter is not mentioned at all:

The ‘advertisement’ as you see it, is just a preview of which flowcards you can expect for certain devices supported by an app.

For most Matter devices these previews aren’t available at all, because apps for Matter are optional.

What I recommend for you to do is to contact support

I would disagree. If you click on Smart Thermostat X and it shows specific flow cards for the Smart Thermostat X, with its picture, that is a specific feature advertisement.

Instead it is just being detected as a generic Matter temperature sensor.

I have emailed them, but email support with Athom is unfortunately a bad joke.

Hi, notice you mentioned the issue with the integration of the wireless sensor

“Homey’s Matter implementation does not recognise the sensor correctly as thermostat, only as temperature sensor”

It appears this issue has been fixed with the Tado X wireless thermostats produced after September 2024 - I had mine replaced under warranty by Tado, after which the sensors were correctly integrated.

That’s a fair explanation, @JoshR

I think I understand the problem here - have been corresponding with Tado (who actually responds to support cases, unlike, ahem, athom).

There is a wireless thermostat x and a wireless temperature sensor x. They look identical, but function differently. As of now, the matter standard does not support the sensor x.

The thermostat x seems to be to control central units, while the sensor x is designed to provide remote temperature monitoring and control to radiator valves.

This.

I too noticed this problem because I have bought a Tado Wireless Smart Thermostat X - Starter Kit which does not incude the thermostat, but it includes the “Wireless Receiver X” and the “Wireless Temperature Sensor X”.

The wireless temperature sensor X right now is recognized by Homey as a generic matter thermostat, it doesn’t work with the official Tado app and so you cannot use all the Tado functions with it.
I submitted a support request to Homey asking to implement this device and their answer was “I have asked our developers to look into this matter to see if they can adapt the Matter devices to also join the device list in the app if possible.”

So maybe if other users report this problem creating support ticket on the Homey Tado app they’ll actually implement the wireless temperature sensor X.

Great that you got a response- I sent them a question of Feb 5 and they still haven’t responded. :frowning:

I sent the ticket on Jan 26 and got a response last week, maybe they’ll answer you too in a bit

Any news about this topic?
